Chocolate-Dipped Pretzels
are easy to make, and the combination of sweet chocolate and salty, crunchy pretzels is fantastic. You can use any pretzels you want, but I recommend large pretzel rods or twists, since they are faster to make and look great when packaged as a gift.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
· 1 package (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
· 1 tbsp shortening
· 2 dozen pretzel rods or large pretzel twists
· Assorted sprinkles or small candies (optional)
· 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
Preparation:
1. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil.
2. Combine the chocolate chips and the shortening in a large microwave-safe bowl, and microwave until melted, stirring after every minute.
3. If dipping pretzel rods, hold a rod by one end and dip it in the chocolate, leaving an inch or two uncovered. If you are dipping pretzel twists, drop the whole pretzel in the chocolate and submerge it slightly. Use a fork to pull the pretzel out of the chocolate. Shake the chocolate-dipped pretzels several times to remove excess chocolate, and place it on the prepared baking sheet. If you are using sprinkles or small candies, sprinkle them on when the chocolate is still wet. Repeat with remaining chocolate and pretzels.
4. Place the pretzels in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to set the chocolate.
5. If desired, melt the white chocolate and drizzle it over the pretzels for a decorative look. Briefly return the candy to the refrigerator to set the white chocolate before serving.

I just emailed my fh and had him look at them I definately think we may use them for our wedding too....I just wonder how we'll make them all ahead of time, you probably cant freeze them and have the pretzel still taste good though hmmm? Great idea though, thanks for sharing!

I've done these for holiday parties and found that they stand up really well in gift bags meant to give out bottles of wine, which are pretty easy to find these days. Or just pretty cellophane bags tied with bows would work great, too! Such a cute idea, hope you don't mind if I steal it!

Those are so great! I love them.
If you want to try a fun twist, I've also had them where they were dipped in caramel first and then chocolate (although they are a little more messy to make!)

I think i just found my wedding favors!
I'm just scared they might end up melting. [its a beach wedding]
Now 2 question.
How long before the wedding should i make them?
What is the best thing to put them in to give them out?

I'd be interested in how you are going to package these. I love the idea! I guess you could just wrap them up in some sort of decorative bag? Let us know! :)

I was thinking the same thing. FH doesn't care for cake and I'm not too thrilled about it myself and since we're going to be at the beach & having a picnic type meal -this would fit better than a wedding cake.
I've seen these made with just bakers chocolate and not shortening... is it (shortening) necessary?

I'm thinking that if you use ribbon in your wedding colors, you're set!
or.....

or just all in a cute container like this

I was planning on using the pretzel bags that you can get at pretty much any craft store and than the ribbons in my colors.. and probably scatter them on the table in between my center pieces and votive candles.
I'm not sure if you can freeze them or not... thats actually what i was plannin gon doing, but i guess i should try a few before i actually do all of them lol
