View Full Version : Anyone wearing a fascinator? Or seen a wedding with one?

So, my fiance just ordered fedoras for himself and his groomsmen - they're all kind of goofy "hat guys" who love a good classic, so I think they're going to love it.

At this point, I'm kind of tempted to complement the 30's/40's feel with a cocktail hat or fascinator, and maybe a few for my girls. I fully realize that not all women are "hat people" so I wouldn't insist on it - just have a few options available if they decide they want to (if I take on this project, it won't really matter whether I make 1 or 10).

I love some of the really wild looks on some of the non-traditional brides out there, but I'm not sure if just adding a feathery "hat" with a traditional white dress will be a nice touch or just come across as really odd.

So, anyone wearing a fascinator? Or been to a wedding with one?

Something like these, but in yellow:

I suppose I should mention - I realize these are still (apparently?) more common at UK weddings, but more quirky/"retro" around the Midwest. Around here, I've never seen a bride wearing anything other than a tightly-pinned updo with a tiara and veil - wearing my hair loose will be "odd" enough!

I have never been to a wedding where the bride wore one of these, but I think they can be cool. I like the first two you pictured :)

I think a bride here did or was going to wear one, but I can't remember who it was.

Like you said, it is considered sort of quirky/retro/off beat in most areas in the US (that I know of at least), so if that is the feel of your wedding, or the personal touch you want to add, then go for it!

What does your dress look like? Are you going to wear a birdcage veil too?

I made myself a simple one with orchids, but this was my inspiration. I am having a hard time getting the veiling to lay flat though so I contacted the girl in the picture to see how much she charges to just send me one!

I personally have never seen one, but I think they can be very chic and beautiful! I love the pics on here.

Heywie - that's awesome! I love the front-angled pancake ones, but don't think it'll look quite right on my curly fluff.

My dress will be very simple, so I plan is to wear a full-length embellished english net veil for the short outdoor ceremony. Depending on what I come across, I'm planning to trade out the veil for either a flower (or two) or a fascinator for the reception/dancing. If I find a great cocktail hat/fascinator, though, I might wait and pop it on just before our grand exit (the whole thing is held at a park lodge that closes at 10 pm, so most of our guests will still be there) - if I wait until then, I might do something with a small birdcage.

We're heading out for sushi at "our" restaurant after the reception, in full wedding regalia, and I think a small fascinator might just top things off for that!

I'm doing a white dress with yellow accents and yellow shoes, so a great yellow cocktail/fascinator would just top it all!

What about for the bridesmaids? If you were in a wedding, would you go for the hair toys if provided, or shy away? Should I save that bit of fun for myself?

I personally decided to save the fun for myself! Haha.

If you decide you want a yellow fascinator and like the one I posted, I got the picture from etsy.com. The girl who makes them's name is myrakim on there and she makes them custom to the size and colors of your choice. I am making my own fascinator, but ordered the dew drop birdcage veil part from her.
