We also plan on getting pet insurance. Is there any reputable ones out there?
I thought I would start this topic in a new thread ;)

We have insurance for our dogs; we have the VPI brand (http://www.petinsurance.com) and have had it for as long as we've had the dogs (going on 3 years) with no problems.

I think we pay about $60 a month for both of them.

weblady, how does that work? When you take your pets to the vet for their yearly shots, do you pay a co-payment or do you pay all in full and submit the bills to be reimbursed?

When you take your pets to the vet for their yearly shots, do you pay a co-payment or do you pay all in full and submit the bills to be reimbursed? You pay upfront and submit a claim for reimbursement. There are forms you get your vet to sign and send in. Different policies cover different things in different amounts. So you get back a percentage depending on your policy.

Ours covers a percentage (forget how much) of yearly exams and shots as well as monthly preventative (flea/tick & heartworm) meds and emergency care.

We got half what we spent back when my Roxy broke her leg and had to have surgery; the plan covered half of her spay too.

We have had claims for UTI, Anal gland issues and an eye infection and haven't had any trouble getting them to pay.

I have often looked into VPI. We probably should get it. I know you pay up front and get a certain amount back. Just in the 2 months or so that we have had Dasie we spent over $400 and she still has to go back for the rest of her shots in 2 weeks.

I have pet insurance for my dog (and soon will for my cats) through Petsmart. I pay $30.00 a month and have free office visits, 1 free dental a year, etc. (I would have to look up all the details) Anyway, I LOVE It and think it's well worth the money.

oooh BarceloMayaPalaceBride that sounds good. FH and I aren't rushing to get the dogs we want anytime soon, but its good to know what pet insurance that others have. He wants a Beagle but well I'm allergic to shedding dogs, so he'll have to find an acceptable breed and I'm wanting a Maltese. Pet insurance is so important to me because the cat my family has at home here is 16 1/2 years old and is sick, we just called the vet yesterday to get a price to have her put down. I hate to do it but I don't want her to suffer too, so when I get my check hopefully today, I'll be able to cash it tomorrow and do what needs to be done. Perfect day to do it as I also go into court tomorrow to finalize my divorce. Thankfully soon to be ex and I are on good terms :o
