That sucks!!! How can they tell you what to do with your car on your property. They just came onto your driveway and towed your car?? I would think they couldn't do that!! Can you get it back??

luckily my co worker came over at 7am and brought me to the towyard. i got it out but it cost me. I live in a homeowners association and they tell you that you cant park a certain way they call it "illegal" parking but my brother in law the lawyer already made a call to the HOA and they said they are going to cut me a refund check to cover it cuz' my lawyer got invovled, they dont need a lawsuit for coming on my property

i just seriously needed to scream, i have had the morning from he** and its only 947. think its too early for a glass of wine?? hahh

What a load of cr@p. I hate HOA. I understand they can help keep your property value up by now allowing you or your neighbors to do certain things, but geez... parking your car the wrong way in your driveway?!?!? Wow. Hope the rest of your day gets better!

You gotta be kidding me! How is there a wrong way to park in your own driveway?

If I remember correctly, weren't you were also fined for FH living there and for how/when you put out your garbage?

Whooaaaaaaaaa there is no way that I could live in a place like that. That's ridiculous. Do they tell you when you can ****, shave and shower too?

OMGoodness! I could never live in a neighborhood with an HOA, I know they are supposed to help keep the neighborhood nice but!:bbeek: thats a bit ridiculous it is still YOUR property!? We have some friends that live in a neighborhood like that and they all have to set their mowers on a certain height so the grass will be equally grown in all the yards:snide: o-k?!

Well hopefully they will cut you that check soon! Hope your week gets better.... and crack open that wine, Its 5 o'clock somewhere:winktongue:

Wow :bbeek: I can't believe the things some of these HOA people can get away with. I don't know what "rule" you were breaking by having your car parked whatever way it was, but even if you did break one of their stupid rules, why couldn't they just give you a warning or a fine or something instead of towing your car?!

I am sorry you keep having issues with them; I would want to scream too ... and move!

I tell ya I would never live somewhere with a homeowners association!

All the best!

That's so crazy. I'm glad my HOA is pretty lax and doesn't really care about little stuff like that!

I would think that it might also be hard to sell because if anyone found out beforehand how anal the HOA is, they wouldn't want to step near it.

Does this association have it out for just you two or, do they do this to all the homeowners?

*hugs to you both* :)

to be honest, i used to think it was just us they had it out for but then i found out that they towed 3 other peoples cars when i went to pick up mine.

UGH! they are just being jerks.

HOA's take it to a whole different level sometimes. They used to hold HOA meetings at my work in the evenings, and one day while I was working the front desk I had about thirteen angry homeowners standing around it. Apparantly, despite paying the fees, they HOA wanted each of them to pay to paint the graffiti some kids had sprayed all over the back walls, and was going to fine them if they didn't get it taken care of.

That experience taught me that I never want to live in a neighborhood with an HOA.

Sounds like it's time to band together with some other disgruntled HOs (home owners - I am not calling you a ho LOL) to stand up to the HOA.

I don't know how everyone else responded, didn't read the other comments, because I'm dumbfounded over this. I cannot believe they would tow for improper parking?!!

Heck, after that, I'd park my car sideways and upside down and then sit outside with a gun on one side and a lawyer on the other. (ok, so I wouldn't REALLY do that), but you get the picture. Geezzz....

I live in a very established (aka old) subdivision. I haven't heard hide nor hair from the HOA in my area.

People really do get a kick out of a play on power.

Just wanted to add another HOA horror story - friend in Atlanta lives in a neighborhood with an HOA. They demanded that ALL home owners in that area have the same MAILBOX. Of all things - a freakin' mailbox? So they took all the olds ones off and you had to buy their mailbox.

Then, they tried to install a Stop Sign. My friend got on the phone with the Police Department and the Stop Sign was removed. It takes some serious balls to do the these things in the name of "HOA." I've never heard of a good story relating to the organization of such.

Geez so much for the land of the free!

If something like that was to happen in the UK. First of all there would be a lynch mob banging on desks at the head office. Secondly, there would be bad publicity for the company. And Thirdly, We would do what Aleta said and go against the grain just to annoy them. By causing a mutiny and sticking together We would park anyway We see fit.

The paperwork and the annoyance just wouldn't be worth their time. And Homeowners win in the end.

That is riduculous! I live in a condo too, and they have no policy about it. Although, I live with a bunch of old people....they wouldn't know the difference.

What a horrible way to start the day! Hope it got better after that. :)

Wow, that is crazy.

This reminds me of the episode of Grounded for Life, where the mom writes notes from the HOA to her husband to get him to change things he was unwilling to change when she just asked him. Then she started getting power hungry and wrote to all the other neighbors and had them change things. In the end, they were all very angry. I didn't know the real thing could even be worse than that.

Delayed response, sorry...

Ok, your HOA is the same as our "BC" (body corporate). At our last place they told us we were not allowed to have any items on our enormous balcony - including a table setting or a BBQ (wtf else are you going to use the space for?????). And all parking was underground (so not even visible from outside) and we all had a small storeroom. We had to move things out of the storeroom and bring things down to put them in; during this process over the day we left things in our own car spot. We packed it all back in fine, but we got a letter telling us we weren't allowed to have any items except for cars in our car spots. WTF?

And YET, after all this ridiculouslness, some (I am assuming) hooligans came past our building and yanked all of the cords out of our phone box. Yep, everyone in our building lost their phone connections. We call the BC to get it fixed and they tell *US* to call Telstra (the phone people). We had to frigging wait outside our place for half a day for the phone guy, and the BC didn't give a rats ar*e. We had no phone connection for a *month* and this was when we were being told to leave by our roommate and trying to find a new place without the internet!

Arghh... sorry. I feel your pain, but in your case I would be calling lawyers and police to find out how they can possibly deem parking that way "illegal". Someone may be rather annoyed by them making up their own laws.. especially if a LOT of annoyed homeowners were to call them at once... :grinhappy: Make some noise! By the sounds of the legal phone call, they don't want the hassle and are continuing with it because no one is complaining loudly enough.

HOA's suck. Completely. We are not even allowed to park in our own driveway without a permit sticker. We are supposed to always park in the garage and we are ticketed and fined if we do not. We have two cars and a standard sized 2 car garage, but there are built in cabinets and shelves lining both sides of the garage as well as an built in entertainment center on one wall inside that sticks into the garage. It is not physically possible to fit both cars in there and still be able to actually open a door to get out of the car. We had to jump through hoops to get the sticker. A guy had to come out and measure our garage which took almost 3 weeks because they didn't have anyone available to do it. We also had to fill out a ton of paperwork and all kinds of other garbage. By the time it was all said and done, a month a half had passed before we were given that stupid sticker. And now we are allowed to park a single car in our driveway.

I am so glad we are just renting. We have the option to purchase, but we're going to walk away and never look back!

WOw i am glad I don't live in an area with a HOA. You pay fees for them to tell you that you have to park a certain way in your driveway.. What a rip off.

This makes me not want to be a grown up. The air force bases that my brother has been stationed on aren't even that strict! My other brother, on the other hand, is told what kind of mailbox he can have. I hate driving down his streets because I can never find his house because all the homes and everything about them look the same! I guess that's kind of the point, but geez, some originality would be nice.

That's rediculous!!! I wouldn't survive there at all - shoot, we have a trailer in front of our house, 2 cars in the driveway and 2 in the garage. I hope you get it all taken care of. My husband said that he's even seen areas where you HAVE to park IN the garage - you can't even park in your own driveway in some areas around here. EFF THAT!!!!
