Hello everyone! My boyfriend proposed to me just recently and due to some circumstances, we were unable to tell everyone except our very immediate family. However, since alot of our family and friends are scattered, I was wondering if sending out engagement announcements would be appropriate. And if so, where could I find some? I'm not opposed to making them either, I just don't know if it's the "right" thing to do. I'm not planning on having an engagement party, I just want to get the word out to them. Many thanks :)

I've never heard of that before.

If you think it would be a good way to tell people, then go ahead. You might like to make it fairly clear that its an announcement only though.

You have four choices, but please only send to those you plan to invite to the wedding. You may use a combination off all of these.
1- Announcement in the local ( or other) newspaper.
2- Save the date cards- announcing the date of the wedding, your and your groom's name, and the city/state/area the wedding will be held in.
3- Invitations to an engagement party
4- Announcements- similar to an invitation may be sent out by the bride and groom, or their parents.

There may be other methods- sending an e-mail for example, but these are the "traditional" methods.

Congratulations and Good Luck!

Engagement announcements are very common. You can check with any invitation / stationery shop or online.

My fiance and I put together engagement announcements. It was really fun! And kind of a nice bonding experience (we don't get to do much together because we live a thousand miles apart). Anyways, we just kept them simple. I found this little stamp that says "Love doesn't make the world go round. Love makes the ride worthwhile. -f.p. james" We stamped them on the announcements and then put underneath our names "would like to share with you the news of their engagement". They really look very nice. We just printed the announcement off the computer and put them together.

If you can get a photographer in your area to shoot the image, you can make picture cards similar to the Christmas ards that are mailed out, but as it was stated, only send them to those that you will be sending wedding invitations to

I am a photographer, a lot of my couples use their engagement pictures for their announcements.
