I'm considering paying to have someone address my invitations but can't decide. My florist does this service and I'm going to ask her tomorrow what her price is. But I'm not sure I have the money for it. My handwriting isn't the best, but if I take my time I can do good. If I do decide to do them myself, what kind of pen/ink should I use?
I need advice! Is it ok to not have them addressed with fancy writing?

I ran my envelopes through my ink jet printer using a fancy script font. Most people thought I hired someone to do them. It cost almost nothing except for my time and a few extra envelopes to get it set up right.

I also printed my envelopes with a script font!
I am planning on either putting the envolopes through the printer or getting clear address labels. I dont even want to know how sore my hand would get hand addressing about 150 invitations.

I am thinking we will be going with the running them through our printer or clear address labels as well.

I would prefer to just print on the envelopes, but FH really wants to have them printed or get a calligrapher. I guess we'll see.

Print them on the printer....people through them away, they get all messed up in the mail, people really don't care!
I feel it is a huge waste of money!

I don't have a lot of invites to do and my handwriting is pretty good (after years of practicing during boring history classes) but now I'm definitely leaning toward the pretty script and printing those suckers. I'm a much better typist. :)

By Hand here. I don't see the point in fancy-pancy writing on something that gets kicked about in the post and thrown away when it arrives.
A bit like applying Stamps as i replied on another post.
I quote Myself:
Here we use our Tongue and lick the back of the Queens Head, flip it over and slap it on the envelope ourselves. Or if we're really posh we get the self adhesive stamps.
No machine, no stress, no hassle, no black marks, no finger prints, looks bloody marvellous.
Then BANG! It goes through the Royal Mail, gets kicked about their depot for a day of two then thrown through the letterbox with such force the writing almost flys off.
Our Friends open it, think "Oh Whoopiedo Mitch and Shmoo are having another party. Only this time the daft Bints are getting spliced, LETS GO!!"
They then throw the knackered envelope in the bin, put the posh clean invite on the shelf. Mark the date on the calendar and we all gather on October 11h and have a great time.
Stress Free! :D

I am pretty sure I'm just going to write the addresses on the envelopes with a good pen. No caligraphy or anything - I swore to my mom (jokingly) that if I found one use of caligraphy behind my back that I wouldn't go through with the wedding. Hahahaha. I'm trying to keep a casual feel though.

I'll be doing ours by hand. I'd love to hire a calligrapher, but probably can't fit it into the budget. But I much prefer the envelopes to be handwritten; it has like a mass-mailing feeling when they are printed, in my opinion. I like the personal feel of them being handwritten.

Thanks. I really like the idea of labels or printing directly on the envelopes. Those of you who printed on the envelopes, did you have to set it up a certain way? Did you do them in Word? I've done labels before but not envelopes. Did you have to feed them one at a time?

wow I forgot about this part of the process:grinhappy:
I guess we'll just be having a invite-stuffing party....for me, my mom, my sister(attendants) and maybe some g/fs'. Im not too worried about what it looks like and I"m sure as heck not paying someone an arm & leg to do it for me.
If people dont like the way our handwritting looks maybe they'll volunteer to pay for us to have them done:winktongue:

We ordered our invitations. But I hand wrote the addresses on the envelopes and stuffed them myself. I did so many a day for about 3 days. (writer's cramp). If you did just a set amount each day they would get done in no time. Plus it puts just a little bit of personalization to it.

I was planning to write out the addresses myself. We're lucky and only have about 75 envelopes. I have nice handwriting though. Personally, I would never pay for something like that unless it was maybe $5...you know what I mean. I had no idea that so many people printed them on the printer with script though...sounds like a good idea to me.
For our save the dates I did clear labels that turned out well. Now, I have them for xmas cards or whatever too (or script printed labels for the invites if I decide to go that way). Collecting them was a real pain--I must have spent more hours on that then I did on a lot of the other planning.

I did mine in Word and just set up the envelope to the appropriate size!
Good luck...it will be great!

I hand addressed all of them with my so-so handwriting and a nice pen. I think they were just fine.
I didn't want to put them through the printer because for lots of people, mail that's printed = bills, junk mail, just **** you don't want. I wanted the handwriting to stand out and make them excited to get something fun in their mailbox!

I set my address list up in Excel, and then merged it into Word to print the envelopes. Worked like a charm!

My envelopes were kind of glossy and the pen didnt write too well on it. I used gold labels and printed on them.
Good luck
