I checked my mail on the way out tonight I had something from the Old Orchard Beach police department. I opened it up and it is a final notice for a parking ticket that has not been paid yet. The reason says the parking meter had expired.

Well it has not been paid yet because I never got a ticket to begin with. Or a first notice. And I know for a fact that our meter did not run out. One of us was always going back to made sure there was enough time on it. If we were staying longer then planned we put more in and we always checked it. I don't know how this could have happened. How can I get a final notice if I never got one to begin with?

So I will be on the phone with that police department tomorrow. I do not have an extra $50 this month. It will be sent to collections if I don't pay. Well atleast I won't be hauled into court in Maine for this. I hope I can get straightened out. I never should have even got a ticket ( if I did but I didn't lol )

Oh the joy.

Wow, I hope you are able to get this cleared up quickly! FH once had a problem proving he paid a ticket from like two years prior. It was a huge mess!

I hope you can get it figured out. A few years ago my dad got a notice from our insurance company that they dropped us because of his most recent ticket. Come to find out, they screwed up some names and thought my dad was in jail for fleeing and officer :snide:. He was pissed, but we all are laughing now.

Good luck!

wow...that's crazy... I mean.. to get a final notice for a ticket is bad enough...but to get one when you didn't even get the initial ticket!! Geez....

Let us know how that phone call goes tomorrow.

So I spoke with an officer today. He said people tend to take tickets off vehicles and stick them on others or the wind could have blown it off. I still don't believe I had an expired meter but what can I do? He said I only have to pay the ticket price of $25 not the $50 that the notice says. I also asked how long I have to send it in. He said at my convience. It was not my fault I never got the first ticket.

When you get a parking ticket you owe $25 but after 5 days if it is not paid it doubles. That was why I asked him when I have to have it in. I told him if I had gotten it last month I would have paid it last month. He said not to worry about it. Which is good. My daughter wants to play the saxaphone so we have to dish out money for tha this month lol. Oh it never ends.

Well, at least he was understanding about it. I can only imagine how many excuses those cops hear and pick and chose which ones they want to believe!

That's ridiculous. I wouldn't pay it. Don't they have records of it so they can check the plate number or something?

I don't know. I don't knwo how to check. But they had to ahve had my plate number in order to get my name and address and info like that. How else would I have gotten a letter from them? I don't know how to fight something like this.

Were you in the area at the time they supposedly gave you the ticket?

Here Our Fines are £30 ($60) and then £60 ($120) after 14 Days. I got done for being ONE INCH over the line and had to pay £30. :bbeek:

We were at a Gig and normally park with the Band. But this time the Drummer arrived late and i moved My Car so He could get His van nearer. So i ended up parking on the road away from the Venue.
The Band felt bad and paid My Ticket for Me. Bless em!

Another time FH got a ticket for parking in London. But He could prove He wasn't even there. It turned out that someone had "Cloned" His Number Plate and it was on another Van. The Ticket got quashed. And the other Van was found and the Driver prosecuted.

But FH did end up with Two Speeding Tickets from the same Gatso Camera WITHIN A WEEK!!! :bbeek: Only this time it was Him driving. (Daft Bint) And the irony if it is. The Camera that caught Him had been installed by Himself only Three Months Previous. :ooh:

I hate stuff like this! Sorry you have to deal with this right now - what a load of unnecessary stress. I'm sure it'll work out though...I don't know how you would go about fighting it, but I'd at least call and clarify that it wasn't sent to you by mistake. I would try to call, speaking in a concerned and respectful tone, and explain that you are unaware of this ticket, haven't received other notices for it, etc. Ask if the final notices was sent to you by mistake and wasn't meant to go to someone else. If nothing else maybe they'll give you extra time to pay it.

Hope it works out!

Oh that is so frustrating! I would have cried and just had Chad deal with it. LOL. I'm so pathetic! Are you going to try to fight it or pay up the $25?

I hate stuff like that, but if it is only $25 I'd probably just pay it.

Yes I was in the area. I actualy saw the meter man going down the line when we were getting ready to leave. My friend was walking with my 1 yr old son down the sidewalk as we were getting everything in the van. The meter guy was about 10 cars or so down heading away from us. So he had to have already been by my van. No ticket to be seen any where. Also this was on Aug. 10th so it is not like it just happened a couple of days ago and I could recall excatly what we did. I don't have to pay a parking meter to often. We have them around here in certain places but I rarely park at them. But I always make a habit of seeing how much time we had left. I can't recall if I that or not or how much time was left. It was too long ago.

Chances are since he said I can pay when ever I can I may just pay it. If it was the $50 I would fight it. I don't know where to start to fight it. I mean they don't take down plate numbers unless you get a ticket I am guessing. I am sure my number is on that ticket. How else would they have gotten my name and address?

I just hate that this even happened. I mean I am usualy very careful. We all were. We stopped there taking my mom and brother home on Friday night and one of us was always going back to the van to add a couple more quaters as we were into soemthing and not ready to leave. We stopped again on the way home so Grady could see the ocean for the first time. ( it was dark when we stopped the first time ) So I guess we just have to pay it and let it go. It just bugs me is all.

Yeah, I would most likely just throw a bit of a pity party and then pay it!
