Our Miracle Beach Wedding

Friday AM - My stomach was in knots - I felt like I was coming down with a stomach bug but just figured it was nerves. Our two very good friends (both in the wedding party) came to our house at 7am to pack up the cars and leave for the cape. We got down the in record timing too. After we unpacked the cars, we all put together the guest baskets to be dropped in the rooms. I can't say this enough - our friends rock!! There was no way I could have done everything we did without them.

Anyways so the weather on the cape on Friday was perfect! We spent the day tooling around the cape in the jeep with the top down. Got lunch, went for a swim in the pool. The weather for Saturday was still calling for rain with hurricane winds - but at this point I had accepted that we would get married inside and was just happy to be getting married.

The rehearsal started at 6:30 on the beach - everything went really well. My day of coordinator and minster ran the whole show and did a great job!

We did a second rehearsal in the reception room in case of rain - but didn't get any pictures of that - it was fast and everyone was hungry.

The rehearsal dinner took place at a restaurant the next town over in Hyannis, MA at ASA grill. I must admit I was a bit nervous about how it would turn out because they had a very laid back attitude about things but it beyond exceeded my expectations and then more. So after an amazing dinner (I had salmon, but I hear all the entrees were awesome) I went back to my hotel room for a soak. My stomach was still not feeling right. Again was hoping it was nerves. This was my hotel room - it was big and nice, but it looked like the color pink threw up all over it. :)

So after my soak, I wrote my soon to be husband a love letter to be delivered to his room the next morning (we slept in separate hotel rooms) then tried to get some sleep. I woke up at 4 am to the worst stomach pain I've ever felt. I was violently vomiting and well lets just say - other stuff ... I was taking Pepto and tums and drinking ginger ale. Finally My stomach settled down just after 6 am. Took another bath and then went out to my deck for some fresh ocean air. This is what I saw ....

It was humid and foggy and raining and just gross. This didn't help my spirits until the first bridesmaid - arrived at the room. My mom and mother in law were running late. Against by better nature I did get a bit testing, but felt better once we were on our way. Unfortunately at this time I don't have any salon pictures but once I do I will add them here.

At the salon I sipped on peppermint tea which made me feel a lot better. Everything was running smoothly and on time - everything was perfect except the weather. Just as was about to leave the sky opened up and it downpours. I was upset thinking how the hell am I going to get to my car with an umbrella and navigate opening my suicided doors (I drive a Honda element). But I waited a few minutes longer and the sky let up. I was off in my car and back to the hotel. Mind you at this point I had no doubt in my mind that we would be having the wedding inside. We got to the hotel, I was a bit disappointed how many people saw me with my hair done and veil on so I ran as quickly as I could back to my room with my planning book over my face.

I went back to my room and did my makeup that I think turned out much better then the professional did at my trial. Later the bridesmaids joined me and got there dresses on. All the female wedding party members came to the room to get their flowers a watch my put my gown on and do the traditional stuff. It was nice having everyone there for that, but crowded - which made me anxious but tried not to let it bother me. I had another cup of tea and some soda crackers and they we left to take pictures on the riverview/garden part of the hotel - where most of the guests (and definitely not Jon) would not see me. I took pictures with my girls and my Moms and some just of me. (Again- sorry I don't have any of these yet but will add them once I do) The way the hotel was setup though, there were many rooms facing us. There was some people out on their balcony (not connected to our wedding - just guest at the hotel) -They were playing guitars and singing. It was really nice to listen to and soothing. We all thanked them for the lovely music as we were leaving and everyone outside started clapping and cheering as we lined to for the processional.

Opps I forgot one tid bit... As I was doing my makeup I had all the curtains drawn since my room had a very large glass slider that over looked the beach - I didn't want anyone - Jon included to see me. After I was done doing my makeup I got a call from my day of planner saying they were setting up on the beach - but was going to set up the cocktail hour inside. Wow great I said ... looked outside and it was cloudy - but dry!

Ok so where was I the processional - the girls waited in this hall the connected one end of the hotel to the beach front. I was the last to leave the hallway. I remember standing there alone - waiting for my coordinator to come get me feeling completely relaxed, surreal, and my stomach was feeling much better.

Sand ceremony - in which we were going to pick up sand from under our feet but since it was wet we used the vases that came with our set, except they must have collected the sand that morning from the beach - so I couldn't get mine out of my container.

I missing a bunch of pictures in between here, we did group pictures on the beach. But again as soon as I get them I will share them. We did a group picture with everyone from the wedding and then everyone went up to the cocktail hour. After I learned that my Mother in Law very badly hurt her knee (popped something) on the way down from the stairs to the beach. She was in a lot of pain through the whole wedding and later went to the ER. We canceled the parent dances because obviously she couldn't do hers and didn't want to make her feel bad dancing with my Dad.

We had a bonfire scheduled to be on the beach from 7-9pm that was canceled to due high winds, very little went wrong with the exception of my mother in law's knee (she is doing much better now). My friend just got here - so I must run - I will update more later... bye for now

Oh my goodness, I just got teary reading your story and looking at all your pictures!
I especially like the dancing ones at the reception - the guy in the Hawaiian shirt cracks me up. And the 'flying' one too.
But the jumping photo was my favourite. I'm a sucker for jumping photos, I'll be having a lot of them at my wedding.
Your hair looked amazing - actually, no, everything looked amazing!
"Shoes Optional" - I'm going to steal that for my invitations!
