I work for an Internet startup and I also own my own business. Both allow me to work primarily from home. It's nice, but I miss having friends to hang out with at work. Having my husband work at home with me helps, though. My main challenge is staying focused and making sure I actually get stuff done. Otherwise, I end up working a lot of hours to make up for the time I used to screw around.

I work at home doing various web based stuff; some web design, graphic design, web management, etc :frogg: It is sort of part time at this point (hopefully it will be more one day) since I don't make a lot of money at it. But lucky for me DH makes pretty good money and allows me to stay at home with the furkids and work part time at home :grinhappy:

But I have been working for myself for years now; I used to also do wedding planning (mostly day of stuff) on the side and before that I was a full time wedding photographer with my own business.

I am working towards working at home FT. I currently work in the office three days a week and remotely (hooked up to the office phones/computer network) the other 2 days.

like saltyveruca, I hold down a full time job, and run my own business. (It's really really hard to give up that steady paycheck!)

Could a change of employer help you? Not all offices are created equal - I work for a commercial real estate firm doing graphic design, and our office is really relaxing most of the time. There isn't really any gossip or anything. But I have worked in offices where it was a problem.

Doing medical billing on your own is perfectly viable, IMO. You'll need to convince a couple of doctors to be your clients first, I think. I'm not sure how that would all work. You don't want to quit your job, and then not be able to support yourself/family because you can't get an office to hire you.

You do have your experience in the field behind you though - with a great presentation prepared, you could totally do it!

I, too, have a full-time job and own my own business as well. I'm only working for myself part-time because I don't want to take on too much while I still have a FT job. I haven't decided yet whether I'll eventually go full-time with it or not. I like my FT job, the people, and the benefits (insurance, mainly...it's super expensive to get good insurance when you aren't working for a company), so it'd be really hard for me to give it up.

Seriously. I don't know if I'll ever give up my Internet gig. It really doesn't take up that much of my time. I think I've just got to start thinking of it more as this thing I do on the side than my full time job...because it's not really full time. These days I spend more time on photography than my regular gig...which is right where I'd like to be. :D

...i was seriously thinking of writing a similar post today.
get out of my head. =P
ANYWAYS... yeah working at a child care with all women.... gossip galore. This is my 2nd child care and both were the same in different ways. I babysit ("nanny" i suppose since i have a degree in child development, lol) on the side.. so i want to really just do that. I only work like 2-3 days a week, not even part-time... so very unfortunate. I am begining to have panic attacks going in! Ugh, anyways, bot to hijack your thread but i TOTALLY know where you are coming from...

I worked as a teller at a bank for 5 years. The last yaer I was there ( 3 months of it on leave for having my son ) my boss left for a new job and they brought some one else in. I can't stand her. She was the worse woman to work for. I can work and get along with just about any one. She is not one of them. I dealt with it as long as I could. Then I had issues with my sitter so I had to get done. I know baby sit at home. I am looking for another child at the moment. I had 2 over the summer but one went back to school. I also will have my best friends baby next Feb. full time. I just need to find one for now to fill the paycheck I am missing. I love being home. The only problem is I am not a home maker. I hate doing house work. I tend to play with the kids intead of doing any chorse at all. Then am stuck with them at night. I make DH help me out after he gets home but he doesn't mind. He knows how I am lol.

So any one in my area need a sitter? lol

I work at a health insurance company doing precerts for hospital stays and diagnostic testing...

While I like my line of work and the job itself.. I can't stand how immature my collegues are. They literally ignore me and gossip.. i hate that stuff, so naturally, i refuse to join in..maybe that's why they ignore me...:irked:

Ah well...all the better.. but it makes me wonder how much more of this job i can take.. i'm looking around and the resume is out there.....
