I am asking that you pray for my friend Eric. He is the son of my "other dad", a good friend from work. Last night he and his horse were attacked by a nest of hornets and the horse freaked out. Eric was thrown and landed on his head for the most part. He's suffering broken ribs, a bruised/swollen brain (concussion), broken collarbone, neck injuries, broken scapula, dislocated shoulder, split tailbone, his sternum separated from his breast bone, torn ligaments, and they're still investigating. He has been strapped to a board since he was brought into ICU last night. From what I hear it's not fatal, he's just in a lot of pain. He's been in and out of consciousness since the incident.

Thank you for your prayers!

Thank you. I just found out he does not have medical insurance :urgh: He was a part time firefighter and when the budget cuts hit and the temps got fired, he was one of them.

OMG... I will keep him in my prayers for sure!

What a shame.. if you ask me.. Firefighters shouldn't have to worry about insurance... I know.. that's not fair for others.. but they are truly heros in my eyes! One firefighter died while making sure no one else was in my house when it caught fire... :sob:

God bless your friend and we're praying for him....

How awful!! I'll be saying extra prayers for he, his family, and you. I'm hoping he's in a NFP hospital. They would be able to help him with his bills. God Bless all of you!!

What's 'NFP'? I know where he is, but I have no idea if it's 'NFP'...

It means "Not For Profit". Those hospitals MUST give away a certain amount of care...and they are very willing to work with a person to get their bills paid. (Or, at least, that is how it is with the NFP hospitals I have worked with!) When he gets better, he can ask to see a "social worker" and they can help him figure out all the paperwork.

Alright, update on Eric.

Last night at 1am the hospital called his dad and told him to come and get him. Eric even now still has a concussion, he is dizzy and is still slipping in and out of consciousness and he's very nauseous. The hospital said there is nothing else they can do for him - they've put his arm in a sling because of his dislocated shoulder, but with his center so messed up, there really isn't anything they can do (so they say). So he's home now.... unbelievably so :irked: He's got a long road ahead of him.

I will be keeping him in my prayers. I can not believe they sent him home already with all those injurires! That doesn't seem right. I sure hope they didn't send him home because of the no insurance thing. I'd be half tempted to go to another hospital/doctor and get a second opinion!
