Any suggestions for me?
My husband buys his lunch every day, and I want to start making lunch for him to save money and his health. The problem is that he hates pre-made sandwiches, and most times there is no microwave for him to use. He works on the road most of the day.

OMG! I didn't know anyone else had this problem except Jason isn't picky he'll eat anything I make him but pre-made lunches aren't convienent for him because he too is always on the road going from job to job. So, he always eats out too...I do not know what to do either!

He usually eats fast food, since it's easy and he's on the road.
That's at least $30-40 spent unnecessarily on food.
Maybe I'll get himm a thermos, that's a good idea.

My husband eats out alot when he works away from home ... I probably should make him lunches too. But he doesn't care much for sandwiches and I don't cook much. I use to make his lunch all the time when he had a regular day job ... I would put a little love note in with his lunch too ;)

So I don't really have any ideas other than the chiken or pasta salad.

I have the same problem with my FH. He is out on the road all day as well, so no microwave. I tried making him sandwiches, and that worked for a while. Until he got sick of the sight of lunch meat. He buys fast food as well.. I really wish he wouldn't, but I can't make him take a lunch...

You can't really blame your FH's, I can get sick of lunch meat sandwiches really fast.

Brian is soooo easy! He comes home for lunch and eats leftovers from the night before. Thats what he wants. So I always make sure I have a plate from dinner put in the frig for his lunch the next day.

That is what I used to do for my DH, but I don't cook every day ... I need to get better with that

Matt used to be like that, but then I slowly started watching his waist line get bigger and I kiboshed that!! lol. He comes home but really, making a lunch can be as boring or as yummy as you want it to be! Potato salad, and cold chicken, crackers and cheese, some fruit, some radishes, a bottle of water and a juice box. Its really about what they like. Some days its sandwhiches, some days its cold meat (steak, chicken, its good!!) and if you have a thermos, soup or chilli. They are many ideas but the hard part is coming up with it! I just had Matt go to the grocery store with me, we picked out things, bought a couple freezer packs, a insulated lunch bag and then we work together to come up with good lunches. He doesn't eat out any longer (thats heart disease waiting to happen :) ) and if he doesn't come home for lunch he's got something yummy to eat that day. I also tuck in a love note for him! He really seems to like them!!

That sounds like a good idea Shawna, I need to work on getting some things like that for my honey when he has to work away from home.

Unfortunately the lunch issue is in super-reverse for me. I make my lunches just fine, it's dinner three nights a week when I only have about half an hour between jobs that we end up going out to eat.

My lunches mostly come from left overs or the vending machines, so I guess I'm not much help. But I think Shawna is right, it all depends on how creative you are. When I was little, we couldn't afford lunchables but they were all the rage, so I made my own. I'd cut up sandwich meats and pop some crackers in a bag and BOOM! lunchables. I agree, fastfood isn't good, but unfortunately it's been our only option recently. Maybe, if he's really stuck with the fast food thing and you guys can't figure out anything else, you could have him get salads or hit subway instead of mcds. Not the advise you were looking for money wise, but it does sort of help the whole heart disease thing.

Good luck!
