I am starting a journal so I will have all my ideas and thoughs in one place and also get the absolutely nessesary feedback from all of you:D

Eventually I will post about greek costums and tradition because many things are different here.
Well to give you an idea, there are no bridemaids, no groomsmen and no ring bearer. Usually there are more than one flowergirls, I am planning in having 5 and they dont just throw petals.
Two of mine will throw petals in my way from the car to the church.
All of them will carry a basket with rice to give it to the guests in the ceremony because they are going to throw us rice.
Just the three of them will stand next to the bride and groom during the ceremony.

I am having it all a little messed up in my mind because it is just too soon for anything.

Shoes
Unfortunately I cant wear the lilac shoes I wanted in the ceremony. Its a tradition where the brother of the groom keeps the shoes of the bride and brings them to her shortly before the ceremony, like 15 minutes. These shoes are in a silver tray with ribbons, tulle, sugared almonds. So the brother of the groom passes all the way to the bride through the people that are there, usually every guest of the bride's family.
So, no way I will go for something unusual and weird, every bride has in the tray shoes like these

so if I get out there and present purple shoes I will get bad comments.

I will have my lilacs for the reception because I cant bare these high heels for more than the ceremony, I will change in the car.

Hair

I went to hairdresser today to get a haircut, i didnt do any change just told her to crop the ends as I had many splitted ones.
We discussed a little about the wedding, she said I should pay attention these 10 months because I have fine hair. She suggested some products and I already have some others that I know and trust.

She wants 170 euros to do my hair on the wedding day 2-3 trials included. But guess what, she wants me to go to the salon on my big day. I mean I dont know. People will start coming over very early, like 1:00-2:00 on noon.(The wedding is gonna be at the evening) I will have in my mind to go to the salon? I want my hairdresser to come over. I know I wil be more relaxed at the salon but I am thinking that i will be anxious just because I wont be at home.

Well, I didn’t start my journal like all the others because I feel I would repeat myself. I have mentioned many times how we met, the proposal and the engagement. Here are some links to my stories. J

I am going on with some traditions,

Bridal Shoes (part 2)
In a Greek wedding when the brother of the groom brings the shoes to the bride, there is a little conflict between the two. The brother of groom tries to put the shoe on the bride’s foot but the bride must not let him to. She will be like “No, no, this doesn’t fit”, then he puts some money in the shoe and tries to put it on again, this goes on a couple of times, with the bride ending up with 60-100 euros or so more in her wallet ;)
Then she finally lets him put her the shoes and she goes out in her backyard or in living room if there is no backyard where she dances a few songs with her family and relatives. Then her father and brother take her and help her get in the car.

Because Tom has no brother, the husband of his sister (his brother in law) will bring my shoes.

That's really cool about the wedding party. I wouldn't of had one except fh wanted to acknowledge some of his best guy friends. We're not doing flowers at all, so I guess having a flower girl would be kinda weird. Love the shoes by the way, but they look painful! Wow.

Actually the shoe in the second pic I posted has a decent heel, not too high, I know I could even stand in the golden ones (first pic) !!

Hey Vicky, I'm glad you started a journal. Some of the customs and tradition that you describe are same here. I absolutely LOVE the golden shoes! You'll look great wearing them!

Sonja, I want golden ankle strap shoes! Just not that high heeled! Specially because i want and ivory-light golden gown.

My dad got a quote for me from a hairdresser he knows the husband of. He said she has a price of 300 euros. I know that this is the common but it is a lot of money, at least I am going to ask for three trials, my moms hair and the 5 flowergirls.

Some months ago I started looking for wedding stuff online. Just to get ideas. Thanks to this site and to all of you I ve found pretty neat things:D

My purple wedding!

I have decided that I want a purple wedding! Purple is my favourite colour and depending on the occasion it will be combined with light gold, ivory or pink

Bridal bouquet

I want a cascade bouquet with light purple and pink

Basically these colours.

But I want it cascade style like this

I want pink and lavender flowers instead of the white, and a fuller look, but I absolutely adore the green long thin leaves that make circles around the flowers:D

PHOTOGRAPHER

I cant believe photo-video shooters ask for nothing less that 1000 euros. That is a lot of money and I simply cant afford it. You get a dvd of the wedding video and a big album with 300-400 photos.

I thought about assigning to some cousins to take pictures but it just doesnt feel right. What if they screw up? and what if they get bored and I end up with 20-30 photos? I cant get married twice.
I am going to check out some freelance photographer because I admit I want the proffessional touch. I want her to take photos of the ceremony, the reception and some creative shots after of the next day. And her husband will do the video.

Keep your eyes open and you should be able to find somebody for a better price. Is there a photography school close by where students are eager to get there portfolios up and going?

Reception seems to be nothing like I imagine.
My father wants to do it the traditional way.
Lets say the wedding is on Saturday evening.
The bride is having a big reception at Friday night with all her relatives and friends. Its like saying goodbuy.

After the wedding there is a reception where all the grooms relatives and friends (and some of the bride's mostly close family) have fun and celebrate. The few family members of the bride leave this reception early letting the bride celebrate with her new family.

Now some couples the past summer skipped this tradition and did the reception after the wedding like you do in USA.
Also in Athens because there isn't much room or there isnt much time, they do it one big reception.

So my dad wants to go all traditional.
To tell you the truth I had in my mind I will do a big reception for both families but it doesnt bother me much.
All I care is to get married and have fun with it!
HeHe also I will party twice with this!!! (The second time, free! grooms family pays)

We decided on a church.
There is a beautiful church very close to the house I am building. If I finally book there I wil be able to go there on foot!! HeHe I love this!
Its like 300 feet from my home and the is a big party behind the bride while walking!

My father and my brother will escort me from the house to the church (untill the stairs of the entrance) and there they will give me to Tommy!

While I will be walking all the relatives of mine will escort me to the church and many of them will sing greek wedding songs. Most of these songs talk about the daughter that is leaving her parents home to get married and start a family of her own. Its really a beautiful thing.
