I'm so happy that I found this forum! We've only been engaged for, well, not even two weeks... but since we are planning on getting married in 7 months, I've been in wedding planning mode since day one. I'm very excitied to have found a place to get opinions and ideas!
How We Met:
Ryan & I met on Myspace, believe it or not. I was randomly looking up people in my general area one night and came across his profile. I was immediately drawn to him, not only by the fact that we had a lot in common, but I thought he was adorable! I'm a sucker for guys with curly hair.
We chatted for a couple of weeks and decided to meet in person when he invited me to a party at his friends house. I knew from the moment I met him that we were destined to be together. The more time we spent together, the stronger my feelings grew for him. We made it official two months later and I've never looked back! That was back in May 2007.
The Proposal:
We spent a lot of time talking about the future and always knew that we would end up getting married. He joked around a lot, telling me that he was planning on asking me sometime this year, but wouldn't give me any clue to when it was. I must say though, when he asked he caught me off guard!
We took a week long trip up to the Chicago area to visit family. The day after we got there we went to the botanic gardens (which he had planned). It was kind of worried since it was raining, but sucked it up since he wanted to go. The rain broke when we arrived and once we got inside, he immediatley took me to the English Walled Garden. He took me over to this beautiful spot by the wall, right by a bench inbetween some beautiful flowers. Again, I was worried as the weather was starting to act up again and suggested that we go inside and wait it out. It was then that he suprised me by getting down on one knee, with a huge smile on his face, and asked "Will you marry me?". I was shocked, but said yes without a second thought! We spent several minutes hugged and kissing in the rain, then went inside to wait it out. Not long after it stopped and we were able to enjoy a gorgeous sunny day at the gardens. It was perfect. :)
The Plans So Far:
So far, we have decided on April 10th as the date. It's pretty much right between our birthdays, so I thought that was kind of cool. We have the perfect place picked out, however I haven't recieved the budget yet from my mom so I am hoping and praying that we will be able to afford it. We are planning getting married in Chicago/Chicago area.
The other thing we have decided on are the colors: black, wine & silver. Not very traditional for a spring wedding, but wine & silver were the only combination we could agree on. We are also planning on adding in various Irish traditions into the ceremony/decorations/flowers, ect. since, well, he's Irish, lol. I'm also hoping for a honeymoon in Ireland, but I may be pushing my luck. :P
