GROAN!!!!!! Okay, so my truck has been acting up. It started last Thursday when I was going out to see Steve....I was driving down the road and having spoken with him earlier knew it was raining out near his house. But I didn't realize how bad! I ended up not going out to his house but stopping at his Mom & Dad's bc the rain was so bad I couldn't see to drive and to top it off my truck was spittin' & sputterin' I thought it was gonna leave me on the side of the road in all that mess.
So I make it to his parents house, and its just his mom home, his dad was still at work....so I get inside soaking wet and ask if she minds if I wait out the rain...then I'm just gonna head back home. She says she'd appreciate it if I waited with her b/c she hates bad weather and Larry wsn't home. So we just sat around vistining until it cleared up enough that I could leave...and she wasn't about to jump out of her skinhttp://x.myspace.com/images/blog/smileys/chipper.gif
So I'm heading back home and my truck is still lurching so I think well maybe I just need some gas...and NO I'm not a total moron but my gas gauge is broken and I usually fill it to bursting so that I know its not going to run out on me( I can go to 400 miles but usually fill up at 350 or so, bt at the time it wasn't even to 300 yet so I didn't really think that was what was causing it) so I stop at Bag-Um-Up put a few dollars in and head home....still lurching & jerkin' all the way...
Next, morning I get up start to leave the yard and it goes dead....so Daddy checks all the fluids, they're full (well yea I just had my oil changed last weekend so they supposedly top all those off right?) so I leave the house get a little more gas(just in case) and make it to Schillenger's & Lott where it goes dead again...just all the sudden I feel the power steering freeze and the truck shuts off.http://x.myspace.com/images/blog/smileys/cold.gif
So I call my work tell them I'm taking a vacation day to get my truck looked at, call my dad & Steve to give them a head's up on the situation and take it to a mechanic shop. They keep it all day, and when I call to check on it Saturday morning tell me they couldn't find anything wrong with it....Okay, it wasn't just stalling out for no reason...but they didn't charge me for the diagnostics so who am I to complain. So Saturday & Sunday its still lurching along...so we decide to take it to another mechanic shop Tuesday morning...they have it for two hours and call to tell me:
The Verdict~
1 It needs a new wiring harness that will make it stopp shutting down =$75-$100.
2 It needs a major tune up~ wires, spark plugs, etc.= $200-$300.
3 The lurching is the transmission slipping Estimate cost for that make, model, etc.= anywhere from $1500-$2000!http://x.myspace.com/images/blog/smileys/awake.gif
So first things first I'm gonna let him fix the initial problem...the rest I'll get to as needed...biggest problem I still owe another year of paymentshttp://x.myspace.com/images/blog/smileys/cold.gif
Please hold together til I get it paid off!

I am so sorry to hear about your vehicle problems. I just hate it when mine doesn't wanna work. And it is always when you really need it the most. For instance, I live in East Tn. Here we are the end of August to the first of September. this is the HOTTEST part of the year for us here. My air conditioner has decided to completely die on me at the hottest part of the year. I drive a geek mobile (minivan lol). I hate this thing anyway. But it gets me from point A to point B. Just now it does it without air! UGH! So now I am picking up my son from school. Waiting in the sun for like 45 minutes between getting there and waiting for school to let out and time we are actually on the road again with no AC. With paying for the wedding and all we just don't really have the spare change or time to get it fixed right now. So, I soooo feel your pain. I hope it all works out ok for you, dear.

I just spoke to the mechanic,he's got it fixed I can pick it up this afternoon.
Only gonna cost me and even $101.00. But if that will fix the problem for nw I can work on putting soem money up for the tune up and hopefully the trans will hold til I can pay it off and sell it!

Oh the joys of motoring. :bbeek:

Glad You decided to wait out the Storm. And not chance it. It doesn't bear thinking about if You broke down in that kind of weather.
Maybe the First Garage said there was nothing wrong with it because it was going to be too much hassle for them to fix. But at least they didn't play the "Little Woman" bit on You. And dazzle You with science and assume You know nothing about cars.
I own a 1969 Morris Minor (Ex Metropolitan Police Car) I phoned up about some Tyres for it.
Straight away the Guy said "Oooh They Are Rare. And For That Car The Size Is Expensive".
I'm like, "Yeah Yeah Whatever Mate. They're The Same Size Tyres As A Peugeot 205. Have You Got Them In Stock" :irked:

I've had My Ford Focus all of Five Months and i've already had the Power Steering go because some Twat put Engine Oil and not Power Steering Fluid in the bottle. Now i've got a really annoying squeek when i turn Left. Hopefully it will hold out until after the Wedding. In the meantime i just turn UP the Stereo to drown out the noise. :winktongue:

I just hope She holds out till the Funds are available.

I feel for You not having AC. Even though i live in the UK. We have had it Hot enough here to put the AC on in the car. Where it's been so Hot We can hardly Breathe.

But most of the time We can get away with just opening the Windows. :winktongue:

I know, I love my truck and I hate to get rid of it...but if its gonna cost me more in upkeep than a mthly payment on a new car, I might need to reconsider.

I also dislike when they try to slam you for being a woman. I have a few custom things on my truck; front grill, wheels & tires, side mirrors.(they are just smaller and look nicer than the stock ones) bt when I called to order them the guy gave me this crazy price something like $230 for the mirrors I'm like I know that can't be right b/c FH has the same kind and ordered them from the same place for $135...sure enough I didn't say anything and just let Fh call back and place the order ::whamoo:: they were $135+tax...I mean did they think I was stupid?!

Thats what made me laugh with my truck messing up b/c I'm like okay well maybe you couldn't find anything wrong with it(first mechanic shop) but that doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with it or it wouldn't be stopping of its own free will!
And if someone says" oh well here it is your out of gas!" one more time I might have to get pissy! I will say it again I know if a car gets low on fuel you have to fill it up! It doesn't magically refuel itself when I'm not looking, and if the gauge is boucing back and forth uncontrollably that probably means its broken not "low on fuel":snide:
