Looking at the list of People who flit in and out here. I was wondering where some of the Names come from. Some are really obvious like using dates etc.
Mine is the Name i use in reality. Everyone i know calls Me Mitch. (Apart from Legal Stuff)
Where's Yours come from?
Scrwballsgrl
09-02-2008, 10:04 AM
Mine, Scrwballsgrl, is my fh nickname (that his Gramma gave him as a baby when he'd crawl around and get into everything:grinhappy:) and that I'm his girl, lol.
Kinda obvious, I know. I really wanted to get a personalized license plate but no matter what I can't cut it down enough to get it to fit. then I thought about just getting Balzgrl but its not the same so I'm glad I'm able to get my fix for using it here:)
Ninedays9

Mine is after the band that I'm obsessed with, Nine Days. And then I just added a 9 after it.
Brian's Bride
09-02-2008, 10:17 AM
I couldn't come up with anything creative, so my DH's name is Brian. BOOORRRRIINGGG! I do like how the "Br"s sound, though. :)
neebelung
09-02-2008, 10:20 AM
Mine is a family nickname, and the screenname I use for all of my forums, email, etc....
My name is Natasha; when I was like 15, a boy called me late one night. I was asleep, so my Mom answered it. Next morning, she tells me "Someone called last night asking for NEEtasha." It stuck... she's called me Nee ever since, and then over the years, it morphed into Neebelung (there's two different explanations for this, depending on when you ask her).
My friends and even FH call me Nee for the most part, as does my mom.

WebLady was sort of for me working in web services ;)
kgvettegirl

KG stands for the little town I live in King George. It was named for King George the First founded in 1620 and still going.
Vettegirl- when I first started on here RC had "Baby"
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj303/kgvettegirl/4-26-2008-ZIP-SHOW-2.jpg
When we would go to shows or cruises with other vette owners they would call me a vette girl because I actually helped clean her up instead of just standing there with my arms crossed like most of the women do. Some of these guys pay more attention to the car than their wives or girlfriends. And with some of them it is their wife or girlfriend.

09-02-2008, 10:28 AM
Okay, this will really date me. YEARS ago when we first got an email address, we were standing at the counter of the local internet provider and he said we had to come up with a name that was less than 8 letters (told you this would date me!). My husband said "Hmmm...that's a dilemma"...so that became our first e-mail address. I added the MOB for obvious reasons:D
gwenshack
09-02-2008, 10:37 AM
I used to work at a place called the Java Shack - independently owned coffeehouse - and people always used to say that I had my nose in everything there. So Gwen Shack. Problem with that is that several people think my last name is Shack because that's my email address. A few of you may recall that my FMIL doesn't remember anything you tell her? One of those things is that my last name is NOT Shack. I've told her a few times. Doesn't seem to matter.
Thank goodness my mom's doing the invitations!
sweetvenus
09-02-2008, 10:40 AM
Mine is the screen name I use for practically everything. It came about in late 2000 when I was trying to figure out a new AIM screen name so my ex-boyfriend's friends would stop harassing me. I had just taken a quiz entitled "Which goddess are you?" and had gotten Venus, so I just tacked "sweet" onto the front of it and have been using it ever since.
xxredletterday
09-02-2008, 10:41 AM
This is my username for many different things, but it definately fits anything this board the best. Here's the best reasoning that I could find.
Wiki:
A red letter day is any day of special significance.
The term originates from Medieval (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval) church calendars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar). Illuminated manuscripts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminated_manuscript) often marked initial capitals and highlighted words in red ink, known as rubrics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubric_(typography)). The First Council of Nicaea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea) in 325 decreed the saint's days (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_of_saints), feasts and other holy days, which came to be printed on church (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholicism) calendars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar) in red.
Many current calendars have special dates and holidays (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiday) such as Sundays, Christmas Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas) and Midsummer Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsummer) rendered in red colour instead of black.
The term "red letter day" is colloquially used to indicate any date of personal significance.
In Sweden, a public holiday is typically referred to as "red day" (röd dag), as it is printed in red in calendars.
My old initials were KMK, but when I joined up on Onewed I used my soon to be married initials - KMS - for my screen name. My usual screen name is keelyhealthnut but I guess I wanted something more related with getting married!

Mine is simple... I'm getting married at Belhurst Castle! So that's the first thing that came to mind for this site! :grinhappy:

Mine is obvious as well. I couldn't think of anything more creative when I registered. But the funny thing is that since then I've started using it almost everywhere :)

I agree with mitch its interesting to see where the names come from (even if they are obvious:)
SerendipityCrafts
09-02-2008, 03:21 PM
My name is pretty obvious since it's the name of my biz but .... the reason we chose Serendipity is because of how DH & I "re-met".
Serendipity - Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you've found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.
One aspect of serendipity to bear in mind is that you have to be looking for something in order to find something else.
MrsBacon_092708

Mine is obvious. I will be Mrs. Bacon on 9-27-08. Just 25 more days!!!!!!!!!!! woooohoooo! I love seeing all the different reasoning behind the names too.
WBandMe
09-02-2008, 04:27 PM
WBandMe ... well, my FH's initials are WB and that's a nickname he had in school in stuff. The rest is pretty obvious, and I couldn't resist a rhyme :)
SunnyAB
09-02-2008, 05:46 PM
I'm from Alberta - so initials AB and one tag line is 'sunny Alberta' - and because FH calls me his sunshine - and I'm usually happy and smiling = sunny.. thats how it came to be. (You really should be in my head at times.. it can be a carnival ride!) :D

Mine is just my first name.
When I first joined I used the name Peridot_Bride because Peridot is August's birthstone and both my wedding and birthday are in August. Also I have a lovely peridot ring that Jon gave me as a promise ring years ago. I always hated that screen name though and changed it to something less complicated, my actual name. I like simplicity.
FordFreakChik = FFC. I go by Ford4x4Chik most places though... FFC is just easier to type when I'm in a hurry
amisteratwisterandme
09-03-2008, 12:44 AM
Mine is very easily explained to. AmisterAtwisterandme. A mister is for my FH, a twister is the name of our spoiled rotten puppy and me.
Twister got his name from the little Tornado on his back, and he was a hand full when we got him. Super Hyper
tortoisegirl
09-03-2008, 12:51 AM
I like turtles and tortoises a lot. Using this name reminds me that someday I want to be able to have one! For other stuff like e-mail I use screen names with my real name in them, but I wanted to stay more anonymous on this board as I've posted a lot of specific stuff...
Whitewater
09-03-2008, 01:11 AM
Whitewater is the name that I got from Rendevouz and Renaissance Festival participants. Much like Native American traditions, you get a use-name that indicates a little more of who you are, particularly if you don't like or don't fit your legal Christian name. I have friends who are called Lionheart, Two Eagles, Tenfingers, Dryball, etc.
So, originally they wanted something about "Still waters run deep" and how I don't say much but I'm always thinking etc etc. They wanted to give me the name Stillwater but I hated that, it's a town around here and I didn't want to share my name with a local town.
Then somebody opined that they'd known me for a long time and that yeah -- I was like a river, a white-water rapids river!!!! Everything can be fine and fabulous, then suddenly and without warning you go around a bend and BAM you've hit whitewater!! It's a rough ride for a few moments and then suddenly everything is calm again. They said that since I have a bit of a temper but that I never hold grudges (one friend said 'we can always tell when you're angry, but you're never angry for long') that maybe I should be called Whitewater.
That name stuck. There are people in my real life who don't know my legal name and always call me Whitewater. And I use it online too, it's very rare that this name is taken as a user name so the chances are good, if you see another Whitewater somewhere, it'll be me.

WBandMe agrees: so it's not a cat thing? or is that one of the explanations?
 That is indeed one of the explanations (and only cat people recognize that).
starsthrumysoul
09-03-2008, 10:44 AM
I posted this elsewhere, but I'll post here too :)
My name comes from a poem that I LOVE (and want to incorporate somewhere into our wedding)
"I met in the street a very poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat worn, his cloak was out at the elbows. The water passed through his shoes - and the stars through his soul." - Victor Hugo
I always say to Paul "you put stars in my soul" so that's where the name came from :)
RevMatty
09-03-2008, 10:48 AM
I'm easy. "RevMatty" Rev = Reverend Matty = Matthew (nickname; I only allow my family or close friends to call me, so if you call me Matty, and live, then you a good friend.)
caligal85

I am a girl who lives in California who was born in 1985. I really did get great grades on my creative writing in school, I promise. :)

Yay for Cali and '85! LOL... I'm from both! :D
uptowngirl
09-03-2008, 04:54 PM
Mine has been a screen name for a while - the name of my design business is Uptown Images, and so on the trade forums I was uptowngirl - and it stuck! Doesn't have much to do with weddings though... :)
sunflowersummer
09-03-2008, 06:14 PM
Mine was pretty much what I could think of at the moment!
Sunflowersummer is pretty much two things that were on my mind when I signed up - Summer for when I'm getting married, and sunflowers were my first choice of flower until I fell in love with Gerber daisies.
Thalia_themuse
09-03-2008, 07:01 PM
My name is fairly obvious - Thalia is the muse of comedy. I've been using the screen name Thalia or Muse since I was about 16... I love ancient history and mythology, and am into comedy. I was generally the 'funny one' of my group to hide other stuff, so it seemed to fit well. Plus 'Thalia' is the prettiest name of all the muses, IMHO. :grinhappy:
scarymary48
09-03-2008, 07:51 PM
Well you see, my name is Mary, and I am very, very scary.
No, not really. It's one of those family nicknames that don't really make any sense. My name is Sarah, so growing up my parents and little bro called me Sarah, Sez, Sezza, Sare, Sarey, Scary. At some point they tacked the Mary onto the end of scary, because we are nerds that like stuff to rhyme, and it stuck.
I registered at another forum once that already had a scarymary, so I whacked 48 on the end, and have been using it since.
rainbowtreat
09-03-2008, 09:23 PM
My name is one I have been using now on line for many many years. I had one name that had to do with unicorns as I LOVE unicorns. My husband at the time ( my ex now ) wanted me to change it due to some guys talking to me or something. I don't even remember now. But I like rainbows and needed to add something on the end as rainbow is used alot on line. I did't wan another color as rainbow and a color at the end jsut didn't go. Some how I came up with treat. Rainbowtreat has stuck and has gotten me so many different nick names on line.
Just to add a quick cute story my husbands on line name was downwardspiral. He found a spiral rainbow picture for me one day and I intend to get a tattoo of it one of these days. When I was at the mall the other day I found an ash tray that had a spiral rainbow at the bottom of it. It will never be used but my husband loved it. It is something between him and I and it is so special and great.
Nekochanpurr
09-04-2008, 12:06 AM
Mine name had been around since probably my freshman year in high school.. Its Japanese. Neko means Cat, Chan is an endearment, usually meant for childhood friends, g/f b/f relationships, etc, and purr because nekochan used to be a REALLY popular name! Heh.
I didn't use it because it was popular, though.. My friends and i used to draw ourselves a lot, and well, mine stuck, with lots of revisions, of course. Also, my first bf used to call me 'neko'... For some reason, Steve calls me Neko at times, too.. o.o; am i a cat lady or something? LOL
Self picture for reference! Heh.

Interesting thread.

Christine's my first name. L is for my middle name, and S is for my last name.
A lot of my other usernames are CL(Lastname) so I made it this way to be friendlier. And I don't really have much of an alter ego these days ;)
I was with Caligirl in creative writing :P
fireprincess2009
03-20-2009, 09:39 AM
Nothing that exciting really. I'm obsessed with fireworks, happen to be getting married on the 4th of July, and everyone wants to be a princess on their wedding day. Threw the 09 on the end since that's the year we're getting married!
savepaws
03-20-2009, 11:51 AM
This thread is so interesting! I have been curious about peoples names...especially Amisteratwisterandme. I understood the mister and me part but the twister part threw me off! LOL
I use the name savepaws because I was involved animal rescue and I worked at an animal shelter for a few years and eventually joined the board of directors. So I save paws. I can't wait for FH and I to buy a house so I can get back into fostering. My landlord won't allow any more pets in the house.
Lids4u2
03-20-2009, 12:20 PM
Mine is because I used to work at Lids. A hat store in your local mall - also with Lids is Hat World. They used to be 2 companies but HW bought out Lids.
I had worked there forever start from just a sales associate and worked my way up to Store Manager ~ I am so proud! lol jk. So yeah, Lids4u2 = Lids (Hats) For You Too! :) I use it for EVERYTHING now and will probably continue as it has become "apart of me". hahaha Happy Friday!

I'm not too creative. so its my first and my middle name with the year I was born.
yam102284
03-20-2009, 07:13 PM
Mine is my nickname from middle school. It's my first name (Amy) with the letters just switched around. 102284 is my birthday. I've used this screen name for just about everything since high school.
f77g4
03-21-2009, 03:46 PM
Well first of all I'm very uncreative. Second of all I have probably one of the most popular woman names around and my last name is also one of the most popular so I find it hard to come up with something using either one of those. For some reason I never even thought to use anything to do with the wedding - must be that uncreative gene...lol
So f77g4 was given to me when I started university. They give each student this type of name plus a student number - both which remain ingrained in my brain even 3 years later...lol....so when worst comes to worst I always revert back to f77g4.
Sorry it's so uncreative...
Katiegirl

Eh, mine's not anything too fancy. My dad used to call me Katiegirl. :) I use it for this name, and the name of my etsy shop.

mine is pretty self explanatory. lol. it's my name. and some pretty stars. :)
evilcookie
03-22-2009, 02:06 AM
I don't even remember now where the evilcookie came from. I've used it or a variation of it for years. Oddly enough, when I went to use it for something quite a while back, it was taken :irked: so I added 007 (Cookie...Evil Cookie) onto it, and that's what I usually use. Don't ask me how the 007 didn't make it on to this screen name!
Gertie
03-22-2009, 07:28 AM
Gertie is a childhood nickname having nothing whatsoever to do with my real name. Rather, it refers back to my grandpy saying "good golly gertie" when I would do something silly. It's kind of nice having a nickname having nothing to do with my real name as I can always tell when telemarketers call or mail is from a friend. All the people who really love me and know me call me "Gertie". It's the only name dh ever calls me by. I think I have heard him say my real name maybe three times in the whole seven years we've known each other. :)
tha_mrs
03-23-2009, 01:10 PM
this is a little crazy but here goes.....
when I first joined onewed (about 4 years ago maybe) I was in a crazy relationship, with a man who really didn't want to marry me. I thought that he was all I could manage being a single mom and all. He had lots of women friends who would often act as if they had forgotten he was in a relationship, so to vent, my name became "Tha_Mrs". I left the boards when we broke up. I came back later after meeting my husband. I just let the name stay because I didn't know how to change it!

Docsgirl
03-23-2009, 02:09 PM
Mine isn't overly creative either. DH is a Navy Corpsman (the medics for the navy and marine corps) aka Doc.
Everyone calls him "What's up Doc" or "Hey Doc, I got a question" so, he goes by it a lot.
And I'm his girl so....girl. ;)

One of our anniversaries I got this tank top with boy shorts and it said Jacobs Girl on it. it was too cute so when I was picking SN's that just came up.
Kfancii
03-24-2009, 04:00 PM
Back when AOL was brand new, I ended up playing online and found my first chat room. Of course you had to have a screen name and I wasn't coming up with anything. I listen to country music and had the radio on when Reba's song "Fancy" came on. I tried "Fancy" as my screen name, but of course it was taken, so I added my first initial which is K and then changed the spelling of Fancy to fancii - I have used it for just about everything now for 14 years!

03-24-2009, 04:18 PM
This thread is so interesting! I have been curious about peoples names...especially Amisteratwisterandme. I understood the mister and me part but the twister part threw me off! LOL
My pets always have odd names. I didn't want to go with something like "Thunder" though, and almost went with tsunami, but then after the tsunami in the Indian Ocean killed so many, that was nixed. I did want him to be named after a force of nature though, as he was very hyper when we adopted him.

NOTKT
03-24-2009, 10:07 PM
My name is Katie. DH and I were trying to decide what to put on a personal license plate for my new/first bike last June. Bike plates have 5 spaces.
In 2005, I got 3 speeding tickets. Two of them were 19mph over and the other was considered a reckless ops at 20mph over. (yes, I know....) We both thought it was pretty funny that I bought a bike and I couldn't speed.
So DH blurted out NOTKT.
I thought he meant "Not KT" so when I get pulled over, I'm "Not Katie".
But he was thinking "No TKT" as in "No Ticket", so when the cops pull me over I shouldn't get a ticket.
At the time, we thought it was hilarious. I'm explaining to DH what I thought NOTKT meant and he is laughing so hard, because his reasoning was just as horrible. Either way, we were hoping one of the names would work and they would not give me a ticket, haha.
The name stuck because it's still funny. :)
NOTKT, I thought it was "Not Katie" as well, and I didn't even know your name is Katie! I think I'll get mine on my license plate on my rig once I get it registered again :)
NOTKT
03-25-2009, 06:53 PM
I've used KT for my signature since high school. It's cute, my DH's name is Pete so everyone calls him PT. :) What is even more gross, our best friend's name is Dustin, everyone calls him DT because he's around us so much. It is pretty disgusting, haha.
I have a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V (v as in victor). I know, it's really stupidly long. My license plate is SpecKT. But I'm discovering that since no one knows my car is a SpecV, they think it's for "special KT". Not the good kind, the short-bus kind. In June I'm changing it, even though it's catchy. Meh.
Relaxed6-20-09
03-25-2009, 07:26 PM
Mine is because until about January I was completely relaxed and took on the attitude that at the end of the day on 6-20-09 all that will matter is that FH and I will be married. I still feel that way, but I do stress out a little bit about the details of the wedding because I am a control freak and very organized.
