Yea! After a solid month of back-and-forth and medical issues and transportation woes, we are finally going -- in about an hour -- to go pick up our second dog!
Willough is a 1 year old Standard Poodle female, black with two white spots on her chest. She comes to us from South Dakota and was apparently bought as a puppy from her breeder by an older couple who wanted a poodle and didn't understand the first thing about them. They let her run wild and then took her to a shelter when they discovered that a poodle needs to be groomed regularly and they 'couldn't afford it' (a baby poodle is only about $30 every six weeks. . . . didn't these people do ANY research?). They also didn't train Willough at all, apparently (from what I was told) assuming that poodles didn't require any discipline, because they were so smart they could figure it out on their own.
Yikes.
Willough's foster mom took her out of the shelter and has been fostering her for a bit, grooming her, teaching her manners, and so on.
Our current Standard Poodle, Roxie, will be 3 in December, so Willough ought to be just the right age.
We are very excited about getting our new dog :) We think Willough will be an excellent addition to our family and a good companion for Roxie. Roxie is not happy being an only dog and needs a canine friend, even though I'm home all day with her. Guess I'm not good enough, in some ways, because I'm not a dog. LOL!
I don't have any pictures yet but I will take some as soon as I can. We have to drive about two hours to get her, but that's not bad, all things considered. We're meeting the foster mom about half-way between our home in Saint Paul and her home in Watertown, South Dakota.
Willough comes with two collars and a leash, her papers and vet records, a toy and (hopefully) her crate. I made her a dog bed yesterday and we have already got her a pretty name tag with her name and our phone # on it. At our house she has a food bowl all ready and waiting (empty!) and right now she'll have to share water but we're going to get her a water dispenser of her very own soon. Over the next few weeks she'll go to the vet and the groomer and hopefully start settling in with us.
We are hoping that she takes to us and likes Roxie -- and we're hoping that Roxie likes her, or at least tolerates her.
Updates as things progress :)
