Just curious where people are going for their honeymoons, I thought it would be fun to disscuss where everyone is going and why they chose that place. Fh and i are going to canada's wonderland, we have a small budget and want to do something fun together because we have a baby and rarely get to have fun. So a thrill seeking honeymoon is for us, We are only going for 2 days and the motel room stay will be sweet and quiet! Im also terrified of flying, so someplace close to home is a good thing!

We still need to nail that down! We really want to go to Paris, which will be way too expensive I'm sure, but FHs parents offered to give us a little money to put toward a honeymoon. Now we just need to commit and book. The problem is FH teaches online and they literally take no breaks from teaching except for maybe 3 days off for Xmas. He may be teaching from a Paris coffee shop!

This is what we are currently trying to figure out. We both knew that we wanted to go somewhere neither of us had been before and that was out of the country (because FH has never been out of the US and I just really want to get a passport, haha).

Originally, I wanted to go to Italy, but FH wanted to do something more beachy.

Then we looked into Costa Rica and St. Lucia, but the timeshare we are going through isn't available for those locations around our wedding date.

So now we are looking at the Canary Islands and Portugal.

Since we're marrying in Vegas, we're just spending a week there for the honeymoon. Friends and family will be there for a couple days with us, then we'll have 4 days after the wedding to ourselves. :)

We went to Bora Bora. It was BEAUTIFUL!!

DH has always said (even before he met me) thats where he was going on his honeymoon. He wanted to go several years ago when it wasn't so commercialized, but couldn't afford it. When he told me thats where he wanted to go I had never even heard of it! So we looked it up online and just from the first picture I saw I said OK LETS GO!! we had so much fun and it was really relaxing...we are so ready to go back:grinhappy:

We're going to Port Meirion in Wales for Five Days.

FH rarely takes time off. So when He said He was off for a week i jumped in and booked a Hotel near the Mountains.

Billy Connolly was on TV at the time visitng the place when i was online. It's somewhere i've always wanted to visit.

Plus FH can't just get in the Van and go and help out at Work when they mess up or need a hand. :winktongue:

He'll be having a HOLIDAY. :ura1:

We went on a Carnival cruise for 5 days. We stopped at Key West, Florida and Nassau, Bahamas. We were not overly impressed with the cruise experience, but overall our honeymoon was ok.

FH and I are going here:

We just wanted some QUIET time! We live in Florida so we go to the beach a lot... and I just know that after the wedding is over we could use some peace and quiet!!! We just wanted it to be us on the top of a mountain with a jacuzzi and lots of space for just us! Plus it was really affordable. :D

Like Nee, since we're getting married in Vegas we're going to spend the week there - well, most of it for him, all of it for me.

As for a proper honeymoon, we'd like to...but FH has to go back to school two days after the wedding. We purposely planned the wedding festivities around his spring break. But then break will be over and honeymoon will have to be put off.

For me, I'd like to go to Hawaii or somewhere tropical and fun. Key West or something like that. FH wants to go to China or something exotic with a language barrier. I'm pretty anti. I'm not a big international traveller to begin with, but for the honeymoon? There's gotta be a compromise. We sort of had half a$$ed agreed on Thailand, like the beach resorts, but I'm really hoping somehow we can compromise it down more to somewhere that has English as a first language. Preferrably still somewhere that does not require use of a passport.

I am SUCH a stick in the mud! :)hahaha

Well, we've decided on Disney Word for four or five days because FH has never been and I think it's the greatest place in the world. After that we'd like to do something beachy for a few more days, but we don't know if we'll stay in Florida (maybe the keys) or go somewhere else. Depends on budget and stuff.

We went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a week. It's a part of Mexico that borders the beach and mountains so we got a little of each. This is the location that we chose between the 6 Mexico timeshare options that Chad's brother had for us as a wedding gift. (Otherwise we may not have had a honeymoon, at all!) We didn't want a touristy party destination; we wanted a place with plenty of history and nature.

At first we were thinking Antigua. Then, Bora Bora. But, we were going to wait until late-winter to get a break from the cold. Now, I'm going back to thinking Antigua (Sandals) and going right after the wedding. FH seems to like the idea of going there, probably because of the cheap rate :snide: lol

We're getting married on Catalina Island, so we're spending the weekend (through 'til Monday) there.

After that, during my Spring Break/Dating Anniversary, we're going to the island of Kauai in Hawaii! One of FH's coworkers had two Hawaii timeshares, one in Maui and one in Kauai. We chose Kauai because we're big beach and nature hike people, but we're not into touristy stuff.

You will not regret the decision on Walt Disney World.. it was one of the best trips we ever took and didn't regret our decision at all! It was fabulous!
You have to invest in little minnie ears that comes with a veil, and a mickey hat with ears. You will get treated like a queen and a king. I though my DH wouldn't wear his ears, but once he put them on.... he felt like he had the key to the land... it was great

FH and I are trying to decide still. We have no idea how our honeymoon is being paid for and that's important as to where we'll go. We both really wanted to go to Hawaii but found out it was kind of expensive. Same w/ the Keys. We are trying to decided b/w Jamaica, Bahamas, St. Lucia, and some place in Mexico. We both want something beachy but not really expensive.

Future In-laws are offering the honeymoon as their gift. We should be taking a 17-day trip to Turkey (with a 4-night cruise included in that). Sounds wonderful. Details are unsure as of yet (obviously). His parents belong to a fabulous travel club and get great discounts. They have visited 58 countries last count. FH had the Turkey idea. In-laws have been to it once as a cruise-stop for a day - said we would love it. We have done our research and are super-excited because Turkey is NOT on Euro yet and shouldn't be in 2009 - so our U.S money will go far there!! :D

Believe it or not we are thinking of going to Iceland!

I've wanted to go for years because it's just such an isolated, fascinating place with amazing geography and a fascinating history, but it seemed like a far off fantasy until I recently found that we can fly there round-trip from Boston right after our wedding for $646 each, all fees included. Suddenly it didn't seem so unreasonable. And believe it or not, it's warmer in winter there than where I live right now (in PA). Our honeymoon will be in August so it would be in the 50s at that time!

FH is actually on board! But we've really been talking about Iceland specifically for a few days now.

We want to go on a Caribbean cruise, but are waiting at least a year after the wedding to have enough money to make it worthwhile (just the plane tickets alone are expensive). Then we'll also know how much from wedding gifts we can put towards it. We'll probably go a little after our one year wedding anniversary. Around Nov/Dec would be fine with me since I could use some paid time off from work for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and we don't have any family commitments with kids or whatever. The savings that time of year on cruises can be a lot. It would be a nice escape to go somewhere warm in the fall/winter.

Kirby & kimekia5519: Is it on Royal Caribbean?

:bbsmile:We are going on a 7 day cruise around the islands. It is more cost efficient really. I wanted to go to Italy, because the country sounds so beautiful and ive never been out of the U.S., but we agreed on the cruise. Tickets normally run about $500-$1000 per person, but they are usually $500. If you do decide on the cruise, try to get one that does not have children on it so that you can have a more romantic getaway. This is just my advice for anyone wanting to look into cruises.

FH has been to Disney world before but was so young that he doesn't remember it very well. FIML has a timeshare in Branson, MO so we got an awesome price for a condo at Emerald Greens by exchanging time at branson for a discount on the resort in orlando. She paid $300 for a week at Emerald Green. It's a home away from home. His "rich" (by every definition) aunt offered to pay for a hotel in hawaii (where she had her honeymoon) for a week as a wedding present but we decided that even though Hawaii was on our list of places we want to see, we didnt want to spend our first whole day as a married couple trapped on a plane. Hawaii is a long way away from Arkansas. lol Florida..not so far. It just seemed like a better and more enjoyable time to go to Disney instead. Plus fiancee is a uper nerd and loves harry potter. When we made our decision, Universal was scheduled to open harry potter land in june. Since then, they pushed it back to 2010. So we wont be going to universal. Wow, im getting excited. lol

We are going to stay in a Cabin at the Park where we are getting married. We would prefer to keep it safe and be able to go in and go to bed whenever we are good and ready, without having to drive anywhere. :) Plus, our budget is kind of low since we are paying for everything on our own. This is a beautiful park though. We are both excited.

We went on a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas. It was a 5 day, 4 night to Cococay, Nassau, and Key West. It was very cost efficient. Our wedding night we stayed in Nashville. The next morning we flew to Miami and stayed a night there. Then we went on the cruise. And then we stayed another night in Miami after the cruise. So we were gone 7 days. We LOVED it! We went with a shorter cruise because I get motion sickness really bad and didn't know how I would be. But I got a prescription for the patches and I never got sick. We had a junior suite with a balcony. That's the only way to go. It is abit more expensive but worth the extra if you have it. We paid for our wedding and our honeymoon ourselves but we decided to treat ourselves because with 2 children we don't do trips without them. Our whole honeymoon cost appr. $4000.00. That includes everything. Souviners, round trip airfare, hotels, etc... We will definately go again. And are planning on taking our children.

It doesn't look like we're doing a honeymoon per say... but it seems our first big vacation would either be in Turkey (he studied in Istanbul and loved it) or I want to show him St. Petersburg, Russia, and see Moscow (never been there) and show him Volgograd. We're trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon. We're looking into cruises right now. Neither of us has ever been on one yet. It seems like it would be great to have everything we want right there on the ship. I worry we'll want to spend more time on the beach.

We also thought about driving across the country, but that might get too expensive by the time we add in fuel, food, lodging, etc. We wanted to camp along the way, but we'd have to rent an RV or pop-up. There are just too many options out there!! :bbeek:

Because of Iceland's seriously crumbling economy and FH's want to just do more relaxing than sight-seeing or anything more "adventurous," we've been looking at the Caribbean. I've never been particularly interested in going there, but surely hanging out on the beach is nice and relaxing. Because our wedding's in August though, it's in the middle of hurricane season. We were researching last night and apparently Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao are south of the hurricane belt and thus safer bets.

We also stumbled upon the island of Barbuda, which is is Antigua's very unpopulated neighbor. It almost looks TOO isolated though, as there are only 4 hotels on the island, that we found, only 2 were open, and only one was open during hurricane season. You have to take a charter flight or boat ride there from Antigua. Its pink sand beaches looked amazing, but I think I might feel too far away from any goings-on.

Oh fellow August bride, that was the same problem we were having (hurricane season!) I guess living north makes you forget about those things!

I think we've decided on going somewhere in February, to get away from the Wisconsin winter. FH really likes the idea of going to the Florida Keys.

Yeah, I thought August would be a good opportunity to stay north or go further north. I had said all along if we go south we should go later, like in November (which is also the end of hurricane season). But, come December it's already peak season in the Caribbean and thus more expensive.

I found an article that gave suggestions on going to the Caribbean off-peak to save money while still avoiding hurricanes, which is where they mentioned largely unaffected Aruba and the other islands.

We'll see. Like I said, it's not first choice but I can tell he really wants to head somewhere like that.

My fiance and I have been throwing ideas around. We agreed that we didn't want to be going to a beach resort in August. We considered going next year, but with the economy going to **** I decided the money would be better spent paying down debt. We will probably be invited to fiance's cousin's wedding up by the Mall of America literally 27 days after our wedding. We decided we should go up there a few days early so we could check out the Mall of America, and that's our honeymoon.

FH and I have both traveled extensively and we wanted to go somewhere we had not been before, so we are doing two weeks of Ecuador, Peru, and Costa Rica for our honeymoon.

Our reasons for picking these countries were:
the adventure of Ecuador - initially, I wanted to go rockpelling, mountain biking, bungee jumping, and all that crazy jazz, but FH is so anti-thrill, so I think we'll be visiting the hot springs and going horseback riding up to the volcanoes. FH doesn't know it yet, but I'm also dead set on making a trip out to the equator for a picture of me standing on both hemispheres simultaneously!
the history of Peru - we're spending four days in Cusco and Machu Picchu - this has always been near the top of both of our must visit lists.
the beauty of Costa Rica - we're debating between an all-inclusive resort so we can just laze around the beach for 5 days or renting a private villa and hiring a private tour guide to show us around. FH has actually been to Costa Rica before, but he apparently missed out on the rain forrests the last time, so we'll do a day of flora/fauna stuff.

We finally figured out what we're doing! We're going to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area of Tennessee. We're renting an awesome cabin...with a hot tub out on the deck, a jacuzzi, fireplace, pool table, foosball table, and full kitchen and laundry! :ura1: It's really not expensive at all! Then we're going to Dollywood. We also want to go on the Zipline tour, atv tour, horseback riding, etc. I'm so excited!!!

Aww, everyone's honeymoons sound fabulous!

If everything stays the same with our finances over the next year and the wedding isn't waaaay over budget (lol), it looks like we'll be going to Jamaica! I've always wanted to go to a tropical island on my honeymoon, and this is actually the first time I'll even be leaving the US. So I'm pretty excited! :D

We're going to a local timeshare. (My parents bought it before my mom got stationed here.)

We are going to the Blackhills in South Dakota. We are renting a nice cabin in the woods. It has a hot tub on the deck (a must have for FH). We really didn't want to spend a ton of money on an expensive resort or deal with having to fly to travel. So we decided to keep our honeymoon simple and inexpensive. We are going drive there on a Tuesday (we are taking Monday off just to recuperate from our wedding weekend!) and will be heading back on Saturday. I figure since I get so homesick, 4 days will be plenty!
