Hi All,
I'm planning my daughter's Quinceanera and thought I share a little about what this is for those that are not familiar with the term:

Today's ceremonies embrace religious traditions, and the virtues of family and social responsibility. The custom is a celebration of the young girl (la Quinceanera), and a recognition of her journey from childhood to maturity. The celebration highlights God, family, friends, music, food, and dance.

The festivities include food and music, and in most, a choreographed waltz or dance performed by the Quinceanera and her court.

The Quinceanera's court can be comprised of young girls (called a Dama), young men (called Chambelán or Escorte or Galán) or a combination of both - traditionally up to 14 persons in the court, which with the Quinceanera, would total 15 young people.

My daughter wants a full court - 14 girls and 14 boys plus her escort. We are in the early stages of planning. We are in Maryland and all my family is in California and my Husband's parents are in Mississippi and the rest of his family is in New Jersey. So no one here to help me :bbcry: I have already made the save the date (not a tradition for quinceaneras but everyone is so far I thought these would be useful). I have booked the church and venue and may have to diy catering if I can't find a great price. We are also looking at booking the DJ soon.

Oooh, I went to one of those once! My friend had it when she turned 15. It was just like a mini-wedding! I remember that there was a mass at the church, and a similar arrangement of people at the altar. She wore a beautiful pink dress with flat ballerina slippers, and afterwards, there was a high-heels ceremony, where she trades her slippers on her first grown-up shoes. Then, she danced with her father!

This is going to be a great thread to follow. I love the whole idea of a Quinceanera! Neat!

The closest thing to this that I know of was a "debut" that my friend was part of. She is Hungarian and it's traditional for the girls of age, to "come out" at a Hungarian ball. All the girls were all decked out in white dresses with long white gloves and the guys were in tuxes.

pretty! are you doing a wedding dress with no train for the lady of the day or just a formal style dress? just curious. I worked at a bridal shop and fitted many a little lady shopping for a quinceanera. my daughter is thinking about hers and she's 9! the best story is the one where the girl, 15, bought her dress, wore it to her party, and her boyfriend, 17 fell in love with her look. when she turned 18 he asked her to marry him, and she said No (not until after college) at age 20 they married and he asked her to wear that dress. I met her when she came in for a little alteration and a veil.

She is looking for a pink dress and may have found one. I will post later. That is so cool that the quinceanera married in the same dress (great way to save some money).

We found the dress for the damas(equivolent to bridesmaid). It is perfect. Ashely's colors are red-pink-orange.

This will be the water bottle label. I will use brochure paper (Thanks Danielle!) My daughter plays the flute and the music notes are from Fur Elise. This is the background music to Nas- I know I can. Here are some of the lyrics.
I know I can
I know I can
Be what I wanna be
Be what I wanna be
If I work hard at it
If I work hard at it
I'll be where I wanna be
I'll be where I wanna be

Verse 1:

Be be
Boys and girls listen up
You can be anything in the world
In God we trust
An architect, doctor, maybe an actress
But nothing comes easy it takes much practice
Like, I met a woman who's becomin a star
She was very beautiful
Leavin people in awe
Singin songs Leena Hawn

Save the dates are not used for Quinceanera's but all our family is out of state so I would like to give them plenty of time to plan their trip. The picture on here will not be the one we are using. I just placed one there to see what it would look like.

A lot of hispanic catholics have this tradition. I'm not sure about anyone else... but I just know this from experience.

As Ashley mentions it is Hispanic culture. I explained a little about what it means in my first post. Sorry but I'm not sure how to put the link here.

Its okay. I actually was watching TV with my little cousin (a kids show) and in between they said it was Hispanic month or something, so they talked about one.. It looked neat!!

Here is our first attempt at the invitation. We are struggling to get a scallop look at the top and my friend tried to cut with the scallop scissors but when you close the fan they don't line up. We are going to use a tassel instead of ribbon

These look great! Have you checked out the scrapbooking section at any craft store. They have scissors that cut edge like that, also have paper punchers that do the same thing.
