Alright, so a bit of the background story....

On our 1st anniversary, Chris and I came up with the idea of getting tattoos together. We wanted something we could both get, that would maybe have some similar elements, but not be "matching," but rather just something we both really loved and that complimented each other. No names, no dates, no hearts with banners across them.... Well, that was three years ago; we've drawn up and put together countless designs, but nothing we were both truly happy.

We finally decided upon a theme, and went last night to get them done. On a friend's, we went to the guy that does all of his (and his wife's) work - We met with him Tuesday, went over what we wanted and set an appointment for last night. (we have another tattoo artist we go to, but his specialty is more Japanese art, where this guy is really amazing with linework and gray/black work).

Mine was also a cover-up -- my very first tattoo, more than 10 years ago, was a tiny little yellow daisy on my left ankle. I've been wanting to get it reworked for years, and this was the perfect opportunity.

So here's just a few pics (before, during and after) from the other night....

FH, awaiting his turn....

My "before" pic

The main star and a couple of the others were stencils, but the "movement" and smaller stars were freehand... I told him I just wanted the shading light and airy, but to show movement, with a few stars done in the negative...

And my "after." :woot! (incomplete)

Mine isn't yet complete; he was having trouble laying color over my existing tattoo, and thought he was having a power supply problem (we learned yesterday it wasn't actually his machine at all, but there was a problem with the electricity in the whole building); since he'd already gone over the middle of the star a few times, he felt it better to stop where we were, let it heal, and then I'll go back in two weeks to finish it.

When it's done, the tips of the star will fade out from deep purple to lighter purple. Some of the smaller stars will stay empty/in the negative, while the outlined ones will be colored in in pink, sky blue and yellow (just to keep with the light and girly feel, and also to balance the darker main star).

Nice Ink. I like the movement aspect. Kinda gives it a 3D effect.

I wanted a cover up before the Wedding because Mine is on My upper arm and will be seen in the Photos. But i can't seem to find anyone who will take it on. :bbcry: I wanted a Paw Print over a White Sox logo that was fooked up. But the Two tattooists i have spoken to have said it will be Massive. And are worried about Me walking round with Massive Ink on a skinny arm. :bbeek:

But anyhow.

I like the way You both have the main Star. And the Red on Your FH's is very vibrant.

BTW tell Him they also tattooed the line down the middle of His back.
Watch Him panic for a second.

I freaking love it!!!

I've been wanting more ink and have been wanting to get something to do with our wedding, but I wasn't sure what. I'm still trying to figure that out. DH will never get inked, though, so we won't do anything as cool as yours. :bblol:

Love it!

Nice; I really dig nautical stars and have been meaning to get something like that myself. Congrats on the new ink!

:D thank you ladies... we're both thrilled with them, too. I was trying to get more pics of it, and kept looking at them going "WOW, my ankle looks friggin huge!! Since when do I have cankles???" But then comparing it to my other ankle, it's apparent that the whole thing is just REALLY swollen... So more pics in a couple weeks!

*hehe* When I got the ones on my calves, my whole calf, ankle and top of my foot swelled up!

Hope yours heals well; can't wait to see the finished/healed piece :D

Exciting! I so love the whole matching element and I love the airy light feeling of yours. Chad's actually about halfway done with a tat that he's getting, but it needs more shading as well. I'm glad that you were able to cover up what you didn't care for any longer. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I love them! They're similar yet personal. I can't wait to see your finished tattoo. Congratulations!

The one on my other foot is smaller and doesn't have such big areas of solid color, so it didn't swell up like this.. .it's crazy!! LMAO.... bah! Cankle!

(it's getting better though, thankfully... lol)

Looks great! We want to get tattoos also, just not sure what yet. I think I want something on my foot...
