View Full Version : What to do with my hair

Well I have indesicive about my hair again and looking at pics of shorter, sort of spikey looks. These pics are my favs right now; funny that they are both older (in their 50's or so) ladies (old lady hair) :geek:

Raquel Welch (I think this is a wig) -

https://www.bhowigs.com/shop/files/master/d_2846.jpg

I like the smaller pic, not the main one.

Sharon Osbourne -

http://www.short-hair-style.com/images/sharon_osbourne_short_hair.jpg

I love this and it is pretty much my color too! I wish I could find a bigger image of this one.

So I think I am gonna let my hair grow out some more and try something along these lines; just have to figure out how to get my hair to look like that :worm:

Will your hair stick up like that?? Heck, I guess with enough product anyones would!!!I think both these styles are a little longer than mine is now. So I am gonna let mine grow out some more and then try something like this.

I am not exactly sure how to go about styling it this way, but I'd assume a flat iron and lots of product in involved ;)

I have to start using product, I just chopped my hair too, but it is so not great yet!!! :)!!! I need some to take out the frizz, any suggestions??

*hehe* Well I was making a joke with the "old lady hair" bit; in this case since I like it then it is not a bad thing. I just thought it was sort of funny that the styles I found I liked were on older women; especially when my sister loves to talk about me not being "age appropriate" sometimes ;)

Hehe...yup, dear Weblady, most people think my hair isn't age appropriate because it is too young looking.

I actually dig the suggestion of it being old lady hair...!

Back to serious business though, Sharon Osborne has great hair. She's one sassy lady to begin with - so any copying of her style is AOK in my book, old lady or not. :)

Old, young, blech. It's fun hair and easy to deal with.

WebLady
08-17-2008, 10:23 AM
*hehe* I don't know about easy to deal with, but I like it.

Here is sort of what I would look like with Sharon Osborne hair -

http://forums.onewed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3204&stc=1&d=1218986459

Now I can't wait for my hair to grow out some more; I hope I can get my hair to do something like this!

I emailed Sharon Osborne through MySpace and asked if she had a larger image of that picture so I could show it to my hair stylist; I guess we will see if and how she responds.

You are not old. Neither am I. Age is just a number. I'm younger at 50 than some of my friends at 25. If I was age appropriate I would have to chop off my long hair and that is not happening. My mom asked me the other day when I was going to cut my hair off since I'm middle aged now. As long as RC likes to play with it and occasionally pull it not going to happen.

You have good hair!
I missed this before, thanks for the complement :-)

As for frizz; I use to use that Frizz Ease stuff.

Well I never heard from Sharon, not that I really thought she'd respond anyway ;)

Now my hair has grown out some and I have been trying to style it differently and I am still indecisive. I can't seem to get it to do what I want and when I do get it to look good, it just falls flat in like 5 mins no matter what I put in it.

I am worried about FIL's wedding this weekend too and hope I don't look like cr@p :p

So now I am debating if I should keep trying to deal and get better working with this style or let it grow out more.

I found this girl on Flikr that had a style I liked -

http://forums.onewed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3378&stc=1&d=1222182466

So any opinions; should I keep working with the short spiky deal or let it grow out and cut it sort of like the pic here?

DH says he would like it either way, but I know he likes it shorter.

Aleta

The spikey style, it has a sassy look to it. But if it's too much trouble and goes flat in 5 minutes, it's not worth my effort. I like the picture you just posted of the straight hair - it's soft and would frame your face, yet still has style.

WebLady
09-23-2008, 01:13 PM
I do like the spiky look, when I get it to look right; I just wonder if it is too much work.

I think I may try to go to the stylist to see if she can fix it right and show me how to do it better myself; what products and all.

I may still grow it out into something like the last picture I posted, but I have to do something with it until then.

grow it out a bit, have the stylist razor cut layers into it. there's a product you use to make the spikes... its called "rewind" you use a dime or so sized dollop, work it between hands and then it makes little tiny "webs" to help hair stay up. work it thru your hair from nape of neck to front, and then lightly twist the ends to make the spikes. helps if you wash and blowdry first. the cut is everything though. without the proper cut it won't work.

I have heard of that "rewind" stuff, the one by Redken, but it is like $15 for a 5 oz jar :bbeek:

there's a version you can get at walmart called "play" I think its by the bed head folks. Thats what I used, or a texturizing pomade. you don't get the "webs" with the other stuff but I think it works just as well. I had that cut a couple years ago before I started growing wedding hair. I'll be getting it again after wedding hair is over.

eta: cute as hell! you can do that with your hair the length it is, just go get razored! then just goo it up, flip and twist.

So yesterday was FIL's wedding and I decided I'd go get my hair trimmed and styled (at a local Hair Cuttery) to be sure I would look nice. Well that was a big dummy mission!

The lady has never really been able to style my hair right, but I just thought maybe it was that I hadn't really explained what I wanted and/or hadn't paid the extra for styling. So I brought pictures and took time to try and explain to her what I wanted; she seemed to understand and said she could do it, she even said she'd have to shape it up more to fit the style in the picture I brought.

Well apparently the girl just can't style worth a darn because my hair looked NOTHING like the picture I brought! When I tried to explain that it wasn't what I wanted and pointing out what parts I liked and didn't like, she made excuses saying "maybe that is just your hair" and "well you have to use a flat iron and gel" ... me; "well I can do it myself at home ... isn't that what I am paying you more for?" ... her - "You don't have to pay me ... I don't know why you keep coming to me because you are never satisfied ... I am not going to sit here and fight with it"

Let me tell you, it took so much for me to fight back the urge to snap on her for talking to me like that; she better be glad she didn't raise her voice or I would have.

I mean, what kind of a stylist is she?! A cheap one I guess ... I liked her hair (although not the same style as me) which was why I choose her, and the cut has always been pretty good, but d@mn the girl can't style worth a sh!t ... I thought about writing a letter to complain, but I guess I can't expect much from a cheapy salon anyway, and what would I get out of since I don't want to go back there anyway.

Ugh; so I had to go home and redo my hair myself. I am not terribly happy with it, but it will do. I think I have decided for sure to grow it out longer and then cut it sort of like the girl I found on Flickr.

Anyway, here is what it looked like when I got done with it; it was WAY worse when I left there!

It doesnt look bad, just looks like an older look for you. It's cute.

I would still write a letter. From what you say she sounded extrmely unprofessional, no matter how much or little you paid she was out of line.

It doesnt look bad, just looks like an older look for you. It's cute.It is funny that you say that; I have seen a few older ladies with similar styles and wondered myself it mine was too much like that. I really am thinking I don't like the bangs; my sister agrees. I was going for sort of an edgy sort of messy/spikey look, but I think I am doing something wrong with the way I do it.

I would still write a letter. From what you say she sounded extrmely unprofessional, no matter how much or little you paid she was out of line.I am not going to bother since I don't plan to go back there. It won't do any good; maybe she'd apologize, maybe I'd get a coupon or something; I really don't care either way. Sure I am not happy, but I am just going to find another salon ... I will tell all my friends and family about her too ;)

I know you guys are getting tired of my whining about my hair, but I am gonna do it again for a minute ...

I really don't know what to do with it; I want to grow it out some, but I don't know what to do with it until it grows out. I went out and bought some head bands and barretts and bandannas, but none of that really looks right.

If I could get it to look cool (without too much effort) the way it is I would keep it. But I can't seem to figure out how to do that and even when I can get it to half way look good, it seems to take a while and it doesn't last and I always get pissy with it.

Then I think how I am sort of use to having it sort of out of my face, I don't know if I want to do it too much longer.

I think I want to dye it a dark brown or black underneath then the bright red on the top. I tried it last week, but it didn't really do much; my hair just really isn't long enough to do that right now.

So I will grow it out and come up with a new style ... I like the short stacked in the back thing, but I sort of had that before (and liked it) and now I see alot of other people with that cut and don't know if I want it anymore.

I really like the cut I found on that girl on Flickr -
http://forums.onewed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3431&stc=1&d=1223306960
I don't think I have ever seen anyone with a style similar to this one. I wonder how long it will take for my hair to get long enough to shape into something like this ... then I wonder if it would look right on me. Then I think I'd end up with it behind my ears half the time.

Ugh :gurn: I don't know what to do ... FIL's new wife's daughter (step SIL I guess) is a stylist. I wonder if I could get her to do something with my hair. But she lives an hour a way; I wish I knew someone cool that could do hair and lived close by.

I am trying to figure out where to go next; I had thought about going back to this one salon I use to go to. Before I had a guy there cut my hair; he did fine until I wanted to change the style then he never did it right, which was why I started going elsewhere. I think it was because he a man and sort of old and most of his clients are men or old ladies. I know there are girls there that I had seen do other people's hair good; I just wonder if he still works there and if he would be bothered by seeing me in there with someone else ... I would sort of feel bad.

Then if I don't go there then where?!

LOL - Wow, I really rambled on there  Thanks for putting up with me ladies :flower:

My mom has this theory that it's the girls with the not really great hair that are the best stylists. She says they're more worried about your hair that's why they don't have anything special about theirs. :winktongue:

I know your dilemma - I have super short hair that can be awesome and cute but if it grows out past a certain point it looks like I cut my hair myself with toenail clippers and a hedgetrimmer because all the pieces are different lenths. I can't imagine trying to let my hair grow out, because my hair is too thin to be long - it'll just hang there - but I do get the urge to try something new sometimes but I don't have the patience to grow it out even a little bit.
So I end up with the same hair over and over - which is ok - but sometimes I do wish for more versatility.
As for the salon dilemma, it's really hard to want to see someone else in a salon - stylists feel like you're cheating on them! It's such a weird feeling - I tried it once and the awkwardness was too much for me to handle. I wish it didn't have to be that way - you watch these stylists - the ones you see regularly - and know what they can do. So if it doesn't work out with the one you've been using you can't switch to one you're sort of familiar with? You sort of just have to pick a name out of a hat and try fresh in a new salon? Seems so unfair. And the stinky part of that is that if you call a new salon that you've heard is good they won't just book you with the best stylist they have - they'll give you, the new client, to the newest person who has the least clients.
It's a vicious cycle.
The best thing I've found is to look on like yelp and stuff - people write reviews for their hair stylists. Maybe you can find one that way. :)
Sorry for the book! Hair is a big topic!
:) Gwen

I found this picture of Sharon Osbourne the other day where I liked her hair -

I don't think it would take that long to get it the length of Sharon Osborne's. You sort of have the style now, just shorter. I do love the flickr picture though I understand the growing out stage. I've been there. That's why when I cut mine short recently, I left it pretty much one length so it would be easy to grow out for my wedding. I guess it all depends how much you want the style because unfortunately there will be a stage where it just doesn't look right. Yeah, I'm a lot of help, aren't I??? Sorry...

WebLady
10-31-2008, 02:11 PM
Yeah, I like the longer style like the flicker picture, but I sort of like how it ended up today too. Of course I hate that I can't just pull it back like I use to when I didn't feel like doing anything with it. Well I can, it just won't look good :p

I am going to try to let it grow out till the new year and then see how I feel about it.

I ran into a lady at the grocery store not too long ago and she had a great short spiky style; I found out who/where she goes, so I may try to go there.

Reviving this thread cause I think I need a hair cut again ...

So this is how I have been wearing my hair lately -

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/112/l_2b6ffabc686b43ab943b436e248eaf34.jpg

It is a little shorter in the back; I had gotten it cut this way a few weeks ago.

Most days I like it, sometimes I am frustrated with it. I still think it needs to grow out more, at least in the front.

I am debating on keeping the short/stacked in the back thing or do the messy/spikey in the back thing.

I am going for an edgy look that is easy to deal with.

I still think I am leaning towards something like this -

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/65/l_e737d36616d34fc08d43a3828e464590.jpg

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/102/l_95c15e9a35454037b472db0f89929be9.jpg

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/76/l_e4b625d4ef554c8b8506e5784435881e.jpg

I like how it is a little shorter in the back and you can flip it out, then it is long on the sides then has sort of shorter (still long enough to put behind her ears) bangs.

I just don't want it too short anymore ... but I don't think I want it really long anymore either. I just want it to look good without as much work :p

That is the problem with the shorter/spiky styles I have tried; too much work and I could never get it quite right.

I was looking at pictures last night for more ideas and I think I need to let my hair grow out a little more. I could probably do more with the way it is now too, I just don't know how ... I guess I need to play with it more.
