View Full Version : We did something crazy yesterday......

As some of you know, my car broke down last week. Matt and I have been driving his huge diesel truck to and from work, and everywhere else we need to go. This means I couldn't go visit my mom because she lives too far away. We even had to hitch a ride in a friend's trailer to get back from our camping trip (that was fun though!).

So Matt and I got pre-approved for an auto loan through some Toyota dealership in Roseville (bout 25 miles away). Last night we took his mom's car (gas saver) and went to the dealership to see what they had. The guy at first said he couldn't help us, cuz our terms were almost unreasonable. I told him I wanted a $150/mo payment.

So he says "let me see here....."

Anyway, after about 90 minutes of talking and going over financing and stuff, he said he found us financing for 11% (which is better than the original 18% that he found before), and he told us he had a 2002 Mustang 6 cyl that was within our terms.... Auto trans - I said no thanks, what else you got.

So he says "2001 Nissan Pathfinder".

Now let's go back to 2005, when I almost purchased a 1999 Pathfinder with 90k miles on it for $17k. I didn't cuz I couldn't get financed, but I've always been VERY fond of Nissan cuz they're so darn comfortable!

So back to the dealership: Matt and I asked him a few questions about it, and Matt asked the guy to go get it (it was at one of his other lots).

He had told me it was an automatic - yuck. So when he pulled in in a beautiful white pathfinder with a manual transmission and says "I'm sorry, I was wrong, it's a manual trans" I said NO PROBLEM!

So last night at 10pm, we drove out in my very first new car ever! (yeah, 2001 is totally NEW to me!)

2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4WD, manual trans, sunroof, brush guard bumper, tow hitch, power everything but seats... TOTALLY if I had bought this thing new, I wouldn't change one thing on it!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!! I'm soooo happy with it (so far anyway!!)

The car is in immaculate condition - not one blemish on the outside, and the only blemish on the inside is chocolate (or we're hoping it's chocolate) on the back seat - I'm thinkin it's from a test drive, cuz it's not a stain, just kinda fresh that will wash right out this afternoon when I go to clean it hehehee!!

Well, while we were workin out terms, Matt called his mom to look up the going prices on craigslist for the same year and model - and the going on CL is anywhere from $8k to $14k (private sellers for the most part). The sticker price was $13,900 and marked down to $11,999 for the weekend. When we started working out terms - with no downpayment or trade in - the guy dropped the price to $10,400 WITH tax and licensing! The vehicle is immaculate, and low miles - so Matt and I are sooo sure we got a heck of a deal. I'm assuming it's been on the lot awhile and they were pushing to get rid of it.

So far no regrets, and we've figured we've spent as much in maintenance on our old vehicles as we are in a payment on a reliable vehicle. SUCH a relief!!!!!!

yay!! what a great feeling. Good Luck. They are all pushing suv's right now cuz alot of people are getting out of them (gas prices) so for those that dont mind the gas prices, you can get some really good deals.

An suv with a manual, darn what a find. I live in Ford country where we make the trucks and suvs, and it's near to impossible to find a manual, unless it's a Freightliner or Peterbilt.
Have to say great price to boot.
Care to trade...91 Blazer, Auto, A/C, Cruise, 200k on odom, and a bad power steering pump, 25m/gal.
You know teft is a sin:D

Thanks, but no thanks Matty  I used to have the same blazer! '91 S-10 auto, a/c and cruise didn't work though LOL. But it only had 110k on it.

Matt drove us to work this morning - he likes the pathfinder more and more  I'm soooo happy with it, and yes I love the white :)
