I am getting married outside, has anyone had a unity candle outside?
I am concerned about wind. I am getting married near a lake.
An opinions? Share some stories with me please :D

I'm having the same issue. The only thing I can think of is a gigantic hurricane lamp glass to cover the candle!
And even then, I don't know if it would work. I'm considering doing a sand ceremony for that very reason.

I attended an outdoor wedding about 2 months ago and they tried to light the unity candle. It did not work at all, it was too windy. IMO, I think that you should try to find something else besides a candle to use. It's so difficult to plan!

We nixed the candle for this exact reason. Everyone I've talked to has had some issue before or seen a ceremony where it was just too much of a hassle. So nothing for us.

I am thinking the same thing. But I really dont want to have a sand ceremony. So i guess I am just going to not do anything.

Yea, it's not worth it when it does not light. You end up trying for 5 minutes!

Ooh, you know those kits you can buy to make candles? There are some where you have little wax beads that you pour into your candle mold, usually a glass container of some sort, and then later when you light your candle the wax beads melt together? What if you did something like that? It would be kind of like the sand, but you'd be creating a candle together. Later, or during the reception (if inside) you could light the candle for the whole night. Or you could save it, and light for an hour on each anniversary or something!
There are still many other types of "unity" ceremonies that you could consider. Here are some that I've found, that would work outside.
Water Ceremony: The couple each pour a different colored water into a single glass, creating a third color.
More info from a diff. website on the water ceremony: * Colored Water ceremony: Have three vessels on the table; one empty and two filled with different colored water. The MOB and MOG will each add more water to family vessel (carrying in attractive cup down the aisle) or they can throw in flower petals, shells, etc. Bride and Groom will fill a main vessel with the water from their family vessels. Points to you if you can join the two colors together to create one of your wedding colors! When all else fails - try to create blue - something blue for your wedding day.
Knot Ceremony
In the knot ceremony, the mothers of the bridal couple are given a cord, which the officiant later asks them to give to the bridal couple. The couple ties a lover's knot, which they may save to look back on later.
