St. Maarten for Honeymoon?

Has anyone ever been to St. Maarten? A friend gave us a timeshare there for our honeymoon on the Dutch side and I was hoping to find someoe that has been. Thanks!:D

It was one of the stops on a cruise I went on this June. Honestly, it was my least favorite of all the stops. We docked on the Dutch side and took a bus to the French side where we went on a zip line excusion at Loterie Farms. While the excusion was a lot fun, traveling to/from I thought everything was a bit run down. I was really surprised since I had just watched an episode of House Hunters International where a couple from NJ was moving there after falling completely in love with the island. I feel like I must have missed something. We stopped at some of the shops on the way back to the ship and had a drink at a cute bar on the beach right there by the ship. From what I understand, the French side is more desirable, but the island is so small that you can get there fairly quickly/easily.

Of course, when you're on a cruise you just get a glimpse of each port so it's hard to tell. Wow, I'm not much help, huh? Sorry.

The French side is MUCH nicer and has better beaches...We went to this resort place that fed us in a tikki hut right on the beach...While it wouldn't be my choice for a honeymoon, it's a nice place to visit. The beaches are really small and really nude :( Old people, obese people, etc... Plus laying on the beach we had SOOOOOO many people coming over to sell us things to the point where we actually wanted to leave because we were sooo annoyed!

The Dutch side was very dirty and looked poverty stricken.

I haven't, but a couple of my friends went there for theirs and they will sear up and down that is THE best place on EARTH. So you have their recommendations ;)

Did you stay in St. Martin or St. Maarten? What sort of activities did you do outside of the resort? Any restaurants or clubs you would recommend? Sorry it took me so long to get back, but I've been out of town. Thanks!

We stayed in St. Maarten. And it was amazing!! I recommend Mr. Busbys for lunch or dinner its right by Oyster Pond. Definetly go into Phillipsburg one day for shopping and the night life there is good to. I heard Lorterie Farms was fun but we didn't go, it has a zip line and butterfly farm. We mostly stayed at Dawn Beach and between Oyster Pond and Phillipsburg. We did go Snorkeling on the trip to Prickly Pear, Anguilla and one other island. I highly recommend that! It was awesome!!!!!!!!!! We went on the Swaliga, which is a boat with captain Bob and his first mate Josh. It was so awesome. Check on the website www.bluebubblessxm.com (http://www.bluebubblessxm.com) Or once you get there, go to the acitivties desk at your hotel or resort and ask about it. They can book it for you which we did through our resort. Its also located down at the boardwalk at the Holland House. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!!
