Do tell; are you and/or anyone in your family really picky about food?
Me; well, both hubby and I are fairly picky in our own ways. I won't eat near as many vegetables as he will, but he doesn't like soup and pretty much dislikes potatoes any other way than baked or french fried. I am lucky to get him to eat mashed a few times a years :p
He prefers red (marinara type) pasta sauce and I prefer white (alfredo). So now he is burnt out on the white and I am burnt out on the red So I am not making either again anytime soon.
I try to come up with new recipe suggestions and see what he thinks, but if it is soup or any other kind of potato, it usually gets vetoed. So I might just stop asking and just make stuff :worm: But then I feel like the bad wife if I make something I know he won't like.
Most of the time we agree just fine, but it is when we get burnt out on the regular routine and meals in the rotation when it gets frustrating.

I'm picky about what goes into my food or how it's prepared. For instance, I won't buy any foods that contain high fructose corn syrup (do you know how challenging that is?!) or artifical sweeteners (also getting harder!). I largely avoid deep fried food (except for the occasional French fry craving). I also try to keep added sugar down, and find foods with natural sweetener. My newest venture is phasing out foods in which most of the fat is saturated (e.g. cream cheese).
I also try to make everything higher fiber like whole wheat pasta and bread instead of white, and I modify most muffin and other baked goods recipes and use whole wheat flour.
So I guess I have a pretty specific way of eating.
I don't eat meat, well I guess ... "land meat" (I like fish, crab, and lobster), but that comes out of being raised that way and not having a taste for it.
Otherwise I'm pretty open to trying new things, and there aren't many veggies or dishes I specifically don't like.
FH will eat most anything, but fortunately has never been the "it must have meat!" type and doesn't even give a thought to completely meatless meals. Also I've noticed he's been more aware of food ingredients lately. The other day he was telling me about his hunt for a HFCS-free cereal, hehe. I was so proud!

I'm insanely picky, mostly due to textures of food rather than taste, and it annoys FH to no end (although I have found new stuff that I like since I've met him; I used to never eat Italian because I'm not a fan of spaghetti and I hate lasagna, but I've found that I LOVE most other pasta).
I find that I don't like most green foods. The vegetables that I do eat, I only like if they've been cooked; nothing raw, and it's pretty much limited to carrots, black-eyed peas, corn, potatoes, and spinach (sometimes, if it's with other stuff). I despise rice, which eliminates most Asian food. Plus I have an intolerance to shellfish, so I can't eat any of that. I'm not much of a soup eater either. And not a fan of spicy stuff.
As far as I know there are two foods that I can't eat at all because I hate them so much, I can't even swallow them, and that's lettuce and green beans.
I pretty much stick to chicken dishes, pasta, pizza, and steak, haha.

I'm a picky eater as in i pick and eat anything and everything that looks good on a plate
I think the only thing i will not eat EVER is Squid. FH loves it, but i wont go anywhere near it. I remember being in a Supermarket in Greece and picked up a packet from the top shelf in a massive fridge. And me being a bit of a short-*** i couldn't see what it was until i brought it down to my level.
Well i gave one blood-curdling scream, threw it in the air and i think i was outside the shop before it hit the ground. :bbeek:
Ooh and if FH wants Vegimite on Toast he has to spread it himself. I make the Toast then give him the jar with a knife. Then leave the room. Even the thought of Vegimite makes me Barf.

I'm not picky per se but like others I try to eat a healthy diet, and that means (for me) lower carbs are better than higher carbs, no processed sugar, and a *very* balanced meal (otherwise I get insulin spikes after eating, which are pretty bad) and then of course there's the whole high blood pressure and high chloresterol thing, so . . . .
Yeah. Luckily I like most veggies and fruit! The only food that I really hate and won't eat are peppers. Doesn't matter whether it's green bell peppers, black pepper, or chili peppers!! So any spicy food is right out :) Oh, and oysters. I hate oysters. And for some reason, if I eat short-order eggs I throw up almost immediately. It's nothing I can control. Must be something different in short-order eggs than in regular eggs! Not that I eat many eggs, but still.
Due to my dietary restrictions there's a lot of foods I *can't* eat but want to! And occasionally I'll be bad and eat 'em anyway, like mashed potatoes or cake or cookies. Or, the chicken casserole I made last night. You could probably make it with low-fat or fat-free options, but the recipe calls for two cans of canned soup and a cup of sour cream!!!! I made it anyway, and it was fabulous, but I felt guilty.

I'm kind of picky, but when you have 11 siblings, you get what you can and don't complain!
I don't like most foreign type foods at all...no mexican, no chinese...none of that.
Italian is wonderful though! And American food like chicken fried steak or hamburger are my fave!
Oh and I hate mushrooms.
My FH doesn't eat vegetables, but I've been getting him to eat them more and more lately, so we'll see

Not really. I refuse to eat sushi and I don't like a lot of seafood. As far as ethnics foods, I like the basics, but am willing to try anything.
FH - well, I am helping him get introduced to new foods. He doesn't like pasta because it doesn't have a flavor (WTF?! - My pasta is delish!) even with sauce of some sort. He hates soup, won't even try it. He is a pretty plain eater. Just ketchup and bacon on burgers, just pepperoni and sausage on pizza, etc. He also isn't fond of a baked potato - he says it tastes like a potato :snide: yup, my family gives him hell for that one.

I'll try about anything once.. Steve on the other hand.. Hes bad about eating his veggies and fruit. I'm trying though! :D
I used to be the least picky person you'd ever meet! I grew up eating extremely ethnically so there wasn't (and still isn't) a type of food that I dislike. However, when I started adopting a healthy lifestyle I started getting pickier about what I ate. It's not because I don't like the taste, but rather that I am genuinely concerned about what I nourish my body with. Being vegan makes me even more particular, but I'll still try anything as long as there's no animal products in it! :grinhappy:
Chad used to be a strictly meat and potatoes guy, but now we eat very similarly. A lot can change in six years! I can really make anything for dinner and he will quite happily eat it. Thank goodness. It must be tricky to cook for different tastes. The two things he doesn't like are cucumbers and grapefruit. I don't like raw fennel. I think that's about it!

I'm not a picky eater my motto usually is "I'll eat whatever doesn't eat me first!" or "Call me whatcha want, just don't call me late to dinner!":winktongue:
But I don't particularly care for liver....I love the way it smells while its being cooked especially with onions and gravy but pleaseeeeee don't make me eat it:bbcry:
Fh is very meat & potatoe type guy, he'll really try anything just so long as its not really spicey. Got him with that on our first date when we went to a resturant he'd never been to and just ordered what I ordered....which contained jalapenos:grinhappy: needless to say our waitress made quite a few trips to our table with drink refills. He'll ususally try anything if I fix it... and so far I've yet to come up with something he won't eat and doesn't really enjoy.
My sister & Dad on the other hand........wouldn't touch a green vegetable with a ten foot pole.....and salad forget it!

Alright, be prepared...
I don't eat most meat - I eat chicken and turkey, and shrimp if the mood strikes me, but absolutely no red meat, game type meat, pork, and no fish - no way, no how, no why. I love turkey though and eat it almost any way I can get my hands on it.
I don't do dairy, since I have problems with the whole lactose thing, but I do eat a lot of soy products. Every so often I can eat a little cheese but I have to be super careful.
I'll eat any kind of vegetable, save for the abhored brussel sprout.
I like fruit but not oranges or grapefruit. Speaking of orange, I can't do anything orange flavored and I also have an issue with the artificial orange coloring in Doritos and Cheetos and the like...so I avoid orange colored food for the most part (save for carrots, sweet potatoes, etc).
I really don't like chocolate flavored things - milk chocolate in its candy form is cool, but don't try to get me to eat chocolate cake - it won't happen. :P
Oh, syrup and honey - the consistency freaks me out - it doesn't end. The stream can stretch out forever. The stickiness just drives me nuts. So that's a no go too.
I used to hate eggs but I've reversed my position on that one.
So, yep, I'm a picky eater!!

Theres things FH and I dont like, but His BIL is the one with the weird picky-ness issues. He can only have salad with NO dressing (why bother?) , he cant eat rice.. hell gag, Hes a very plain person. Its hard for thanksgiving, he sometimes winds up bringing his own dinner (or stuff he likes , and share it)

I'm a very very picky eater.
I do not eat any green food.
Whenever my mom made food for dinner, I'd usually have to make something different because I wouldn't eat what everyone else was eating.
The FH is not nearly as picky as I am. He likes almost anything.

I've stopped drinking soda, although I'm not sure if that counts as being picky. It was spurred mostly by a bad trip to the dentist. I feel a bit better and I think I lost a little weight at first, but now it's probably back. Oh well.
I don't eat fish unless there's nothing else, then I'll go ahead. Once I tried some sushi-or eel, I forget-and was kind of "No thanks" after that.
My stepdad will not eat mayo. At all. It's kind of funny. I'll joke "Here you go! A burger with extra mayo, right?" He won't eat white pasta sauce, or basically anything white and creamy.
I'm also not too fond of spinach, at least not in certain contexts, since I invariably end up thinking about the time I ate some Lean Cuisine panini with spinach and later developed stomach flu. Probably a coincidence, but oh god I was miserable.

Scott and I both are semi-picky. But in totally different ways.
Me: There are certain things I don't like. I hate peppers (sweet, chili, black). I can't eat anything remotely spicy, even pepperoni on pizza is a bit spicy. I don't like spinach or some tropical fruits. I can't have more than a small piece of fresh pineapple or kiwi, or my tongue can't taste anything for hours. I love fruits and berries, but don't like jams. I prefer my veggies uncooked, except corn. Cucumbers, tomatoes and cherries do not last in our household, due to me. I love meat, but rarely will order steak when we go out because Scott's steak grilling spoiled me. I like pulled pork, babyback ribs and love bacon, but pork chops make me qeasy. I am not a fan of venison, veal or elk. But loved bear meat. Oh, and I prefer my pizza with no tomato sauce. And I like ethnic foods.
Scott is allergic to seafood, he can only have shrimp but rarely eats those cause lately they have been tasting too fishy. I was born Russian, but I cannot make him eat Russian food. He likes all of his entrees with some form of potato, don't even point at rice. And it is tough to get him to try new foods. It's hard to get him to eat fruits or veggies at times, or once he likes are those that I don't like. And so unlike me, 2 of his favorite foods happen to be hot links and pork chops. Oi

I can be somewhat picky but I've found I've gotten better with that as the years go on. I don't like onions, peppers, olives, mushrooms, or tomatoes (except in sauce that is not chunky). So that basically rules out putting anything on pizza but cheese and pepperoni. I also don't like sea food ... unless tuna counts as that.
But I am growing a bit more open towards eating onions, like I'll eat tuna salad with them in it now. And I love the quesadilla explosion salad at Chilis, which has all kinds of strange things in that I would've never tried when I was a kid. So, at least now compared to when I was younger, I will generally try something and then decide that I don't like it.. usually I'm right that I won't like it but sometimes not.
I will try just about anything. I love veggies, except brussel spouts...my brother FORCED us to eat them when we were little and they were just gross, don't think i have eaten one since. I will eat any type of meat basically, beef has to be shoe leather done. No red what so ever or I won't touch it with a 10 ft pole.
Doug isn't to picky, but he is a meat and potato type of guy. I got him into a Sweet Tomatoes restuarant (all it is basically is a salad bar, soup, focaccia bread type of thing) he walks in and asks where the meat is. I told him there wasn't any, and if I would have said there wasn't any he wouldn't have step in the door.

I am extreamly picky....
I am not a fan of veggies.. if I have to eat them they have better be baked into something that contains cheese or i'm not eating it. But I do love brussels sprouts.
I don't eat anything that sounds even remotely gross to me. I don't really care for salads. If I do eat them I will only eat them with lettace and bacon bits along with italian salad dressing
I will not mix my food. If I have a plate of food and the food on the plate touches, I wont' eat it. I have to have my food seperated, have to! I know it all goes to the same place, but I thinks its gross if it touches. I hate ketchup, musturd, onions and only like certain type of pickles.
I am a very unhealty eater, I hate yogart, it just taste like artificial sweetner and taste so gross to me. I won't eat wheat bread or anything with wheat
I only drink milk if there is flavor added to it. I hate regular white milk.
And not a fan of fruit eather... I only like bannanas and grapes
I sound like heart attack waiting to happen. If it's healthy I won't eat it....:bbeek:

Not at all! I love food, any kind of food! I can only think of a few things I consistently dislike, and they're rather unusual:
Sea urchin sushi
Eel
Crocodile (though alligator is delish!)

Most Russian people I've met have extreme sensitivity to spicy foods. For example, my friend Natasha literally broke out in hives from trying curry. She loved it, but it made her sick! I remember seeing similar reactions to spicy foods with my Russian coworkers. I wonder why?

I'd have to say I'm open to almost anything. Any issues I have are always with consistancy. I can't stand mushy things. They make me gag. Strawberry shortcake - yummy. If it's too wet - forget it. Even bananas give me trouble sometimes which is unfortunate. I love banana! I just have to eat fast and not think about it.
I also try to skip spoons if possible. If there is a way to eat it with a fork, I'll try. Like yogurt. Totally doable with a fork. It's a saliva issue. The more I type, the more I realize what a weirdo I am.
Oh, and steak (most red meat) is totally wasted on me.

I'm definitely a texture person too. I can't eat mushrooms because I hate how they feel when you bite into them. It's a gag inducer. I'm also extremely anti-salad at the moment. Other than that it just depends on my mood.

Like other ladies here, I steer well clear of really fattening foods. I check the saturated fat content of everything I put in my mouth, and apart from some hot chips occaisionally, I don't eat anything deep fried. But I love to try new foods, so if it is something I've never had before, or am not likely to have the opportunity to try again, I'll eat it. The only thing I can not, at all, under any circumstances put in my mouth is regular soda. I would rather go thirsty than have a sip of coke. So even though I know it is terrible for me, I can only drink diet soda.
FH on the other hand, was the pickiest eater on the planet when we met. He grew up eating meat and 3 veg, and sometimes chinese (the same 3 or 4 dishes only, of course) and thats all. I love my FIL's, but holy cow were they boring as far as food was concerned. When we first started dating, every meal was an adventure for him, it was like taking a martian out for dinner. He's pretty good now, but sometimes I still have to put his vegies in the blender along with my daughters, just so they don't know what they are eating.

I like a LOT of vegetables but the ones that I don't like seem to be the ones that others notice. I am getting better thought ........
DH has turned me to liking a lot of veggies that I didn't like before. Little did I know that they would taste good (my mother cooked veggies till they were mush).
DH eats a lot of his veggies with lemon juice and I have actually learned to enjoy them this way as well.

I can't stand the taste, the smell or the feel of them in the mouth.

I dont really eat any meat except chicken. I dont eat fish, or seafood either.
I like most veggies, but I am not too fond of peas, green beans, brussel sprouts, cooked spinach, and especially...FENNEL. I cant stand it. Makes me sick thinking about it.
I dont really do dairy products, they dont sit well with me. Although I am from Wisconsin, and i cannot deny that I LOVE CHEESE.
FH is another story. He loves meat. He doesnt like pasta unless its just buttered noodles. He really just eats burgers (only ketchup, mustard and pickle), pizza, chicken wings, spagettios (has to be the ones with franks), and hot pockets. He doesnt eat fruit, veggies, nothing good for him.
Needless to say I dont cook, he wont eat it. I tried too many times.

I generally don't do vegetables except for potatoes, sweet potatoes, and spinach if it's in pasta (with a whole lot of cheese). I'll sometimes eat onions, but usually only the sweet ones. I'm also usually ok with tomato sauce, but it can't be chunky (a texture thing mostly) but I usually stir in a little cream or milk to cut some of the acid. I'm not a huge fan of fruits, although I'm slowly trying new ones. I really don't like bananas or oranges, but that's more of a texture thing, too.
I will eat beef, pork, turkey, and chicken pretty regularly (although I get a little picky about sausage sometimes). I've never tried lamb, venison, or anything else that isn't everywhere so I can't really say whether I like it, but I'm not usually terribly adventurous so I haven't really made the effort to try them either.
The only seafood I will eat is crab claws, but they HAVE to be fresh and fried.
I love most cheese except for blue cheese. I don't know that I've ever met a nut I didn't like (which, really this isn't just limited to food!).
I don't do mayo or mustard for the most part, but other sauces are usually ok as long as they aren't too spicy!
As far as texture issues, I just like stuff to be consistent - I don't like surprises!

*This has made me realize that I'm really not that picky of an eater. I eat every vegetable I can think of as long as it's prepared in a way that I can stomach. I've eaten endless amounts of seafood (even squid and octopus, although no eel. And sushi just isn't for me)*

In our relationshipo, I am the cook. Lucky for me, I LOVE to cook! And lucky for both of us, FH will eat anything I make for him!!
But I won't make mushrooms of any kind, even though FH likes them. And neither of us like olives.
I think the even cooler thing is the fact that we have introduced each other to new foods since we started dating. FH now eats onions and shrimp (neither of which he liked before). I will now eat hamburgers (never had one before him!). He also introduced me to taco bell (I don't know how I ever lived without it before!)

I try not to eat processed food, everyonce in a while when Ive indulged and had to much to drink , then I need some greasy food MCD's.
I dont buy meat at the grocery store, my dad is a farmer, raises pigs and beefers so we buy from him(healthy and cheap)
In ther summer I dont buy produce at the store I grow everything and freeze what I cant eat immediatly, if I do buy at the store, it is organic.
I dont drink soda only in my Capt and diet coke:winktongue:
I rarely eat out because I have worked in restaruants and knowthat everything is filled with MSG or butter/oil. Salad please with the dressing on the side.

I am also "texture" picky. I am the same with "land meat" as you called it. And it is all because of the texture. It has rough and chewy bits, and it turns me off completely even if the food tastes fine. I like the taste and texture of most veggies, but I dislike onions entirely based on their texture. My dad doesn't understand the texture thing at all. Hubby to be doesn't mind though, because I can cook just about anything, whether I like the food or not.

My FH is so picky. Me on the other hand not so much.
FH hatessss Cheese and hatesssss potatoes, But he loves Mashed Potatoes but no other way, He hatesss mayo, if we go to McD's or Burger King or somewhere like that and say.. he gets a McChicken and he always gets any chicken sandwich with Lettuce, Tomatoe, and mustard. He takes everything off and fixes it his way. For his lunch i will make 2 Ham and Mustard sandwichs and if i don't make them the same way i do everytime he gets so mad.
Me- i hateeeeeeeeeee sea food. I cant be around it or smell it or anything.. it makes me soooo sick. [ and living in Florida.. everything is seafood] I hateeeee eggs. I hate Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms. I hateeee salads and salad dressing. I put salt on EVERYTHING. even in my ketchup. My family things i will die of how much salt i put on stuff before im 25. I will go threw a small salt shacker in less then a week. i hateee pepper, green peppers, any type of peppers. I hateee Spicey stuff. I will not eat rear food. I hate sushi. ew.
Also im allergic to Milk, But i LOVEEE cheese. So i have to get a shot every 6 months so i can still have cheese and get the dairy i need.

DH is extremely picky. It's so annoying. I feel like we eat the same things every night cause he doesn't like so much.
Me on the other hand. I will eat pretty much anything!

I am not a picky eater. I'll eat almost anything. The big exception is anything that comes from a pig. But that's for religious reasons. But I am continuously trying new things and liking them. For example, the otherl day I had a Buffalo burger.
