Hi Ladies... I am hoping your expertise will help me decide on which size poketfold to use.

My DW will take place on a secluded beach. I am DIY-ing an designer inspired invitation theme. I am using a 2.5 -3 inch sugar starfish with my wedding signature ribbon (which is also used to wrap my bouquet, on the cake and adorn palm fans for guests) to wrap the poketfold.

Here's the problem: With the starfish being delicate, I will need to mail invites in boxes to protect the starfish. I have done alot of online searches, and I have 2 choices: 1) clear-vue top boxes (which will accomodate the 5x7 size), BUT I will still need to wrap the box using bubble wrap (either inside or outside) prior to wrapping ing white mailing paper. This will likely "confuse" the look with the clear top. Or... 2) a white gift box (not see through), with the bubble wraped invite, etc... inside. BUT.. I can only find these to accomodate a 6x6 invitation.

So.... thoughts on both sizes of poketfold invitatons??? Does the 6x6 pocketfold (meaning invite itself will be smaller once matted inside) seem too small??

I apologize this is so long (and I know I sound like I'm whinning), but I really love the starfish/ribbon theme and really could use some advice. Thanks!

I think I would go with the 6x6. Could you do anything to the outside of the box to decorate it up a little bit? I would also make sure that I somehow put "FRAGILE" on the box so that the mailman knows also. I don't know :bbeek:

Thanks....

I am going to go with the 6x6 invites/boxes. The design (of invite and ribbon/starfish) is fairly elaborate, so I will first try the white boxes as is (the jazz it up if needed). I also found a way to wrap the entire invite in protective bubble wrap that is adhered to paper matching the invite theme. *sigh* As much as I want to DIY.... I need to be sure to aloow for trial and error... and I'm sure SVERAL mock- ups before I get it right!:D

Wow - I don't think I've ever received an invite in a box before...this will definately be unique.

I might also suggest getting a quote on how much it would be to ship them? They will probably be fairly lightweight but the size may be a bit awkward and cost a bit more. I guess this is only a real concern if your budget is tight.

Thanks! I appreciate your kind thoughts on the idea. I did price them, and it isn't that bad. Also, because it's a destination wedding (with a sail for a reception) I can only have 35 guests. So, a limited number of guests allows me to keep the cost down and still let me be more creative then I could have if I was budgeting/planning for many more guests. :grinhappy:

What kind of starfish are you using? I've heard from girls who used starfish on their invites that they were very stinky by the time they got to their guests' homes.

BTW you can order free boxes from USPS if thats what you plan on shipping with.

Priority mail has different size boxes :grinhappy:

Thanks for the free box tip- that will be an excellent bonus!

As far as the "small" of starfish.... they need to be aired out a few days upon getting them. This, I know first hand... I did a trial run and they were smelly. When I spoke with the seashell company, I was told to air them out, then all was well (thankfully... can you imagine a smell invite? yuck!).

Thanks, Ladies!

Hi, I saw your post and I couldn't wait to share my info. The free boxes with the post office are only if you mail priority mail, I think. Anyway, I found wedding invitation boxes that you can mail at the post office by regular mail, for $ 2.00 each at papersource.com. They come in a lot of different colors. You also could try the flowerfactory.com , they have silver jewelry boxes that they sell for $10.95 per dozen, and they look great. These are the same size as the A 7, or 5 X 7. Also if you soak the shells in a bleach solution and dry them outside, they will not smell. Good luck
