So I am not a big video gamer, and I haven't truly loved any game systems since the Super Nintendo. Seeing as how the Wii is a nintendo product, Ive been wanting it since last year. My FH came home yesterday and suprised me with it. We got two games so far, Super Smash Bros. and Mario Party 8.

The Wii is HARD to get used to, and it seems like the games arent truly games. There really isnt much playing time. Lots of little video clips. I am in love with Donkey Kong, and Mario from Super Nintendo. Will I find anything like that for the Wii?!?

And will this get easier?!? There are so many accessories to buy for this system. Nunchuks, Steering Wheel, numerous remotes, battery charger, Wii FIT system. MY LORD. Games are $50. This is going to cost us.

Anybody else have one?! Any tips for me, or good games?

Yeah Wii is a money-making empire now. It's kind of annoying how they get you to buy another dumb accessory for just one game.

I'm not sure what games you're talking about that aren't games. The things that come with the Wii? Well yeah, you still have to buy games. There are lots of titles out for Wii now.

Anyway, we have Super Mario Galaxy and it's fun for us Mario lovers! But yes it's hard to get used to.

I haven't played anything but the sports pack. The tennis was fun. It definitely does take a while to get used to though. I don't have much experience with it so I'm not much help!

We don't have one, but have some friends who do, so have been playing it a lot lately.

We recently played the one with all the different sports...that was a ton of fun. There was bowling, golf, tennis, boxing, etc. We were both really sore the day after!

We also played yesterday at his brother's house....Mario Kart. That's always a blast!! :grinhappy:

The two games that we have are really slow. Mario Party is like a gameboard and you just shake your hand to throw the die, so it's not like you are really doing anything. Not REALLY a game.

I wanted to get Super Mario Galaxy, but it looked like you needed to use the numchuks, and I didnt want to get another one just yet. Is it like a real Mario game, can you beat the levels and move on?!

I love this game called Cooking Mama. You use the Wii remote to cook different dishes. I have a lot of fun with it. Granted it's not Donkey Kong, it may keep you entertained.

And as for accessories, in googling help for a Cooking Mama task, I found accessories for the game to use with the remote, such as a pan and utensils :bbeek:. Seems excessive to me.

If you wanna see what Cooking Mama is like, here's a youtube video of a dish that you can cook on the game. It just shows the screen, but the person is using motions with the remote to complete the tasks:

I've played it with just the normal remote. In fact FH beat it with only the normal remote.

It's different than old school mario, but there are worlds and levels that you work through and you collect coins, and you have to beat bosses. It's really fun. But it is also really hard to navigate at first because you're not just going left and right, or even just back and forth, but all around in 360 degrees of motion. But then it starts to feel more intuitive.

We've had a Wii for a while now. I am in LOVE with the boxing game. I seriously rock and I get a workout from it. We have been stalking our local Targets trying to get the Wii Fit with some of our wedding gift cards. :winktongue:

I got FH the wii last year for our anniversary but I then stole it to keep it at my place. ;) He bought me Wii Fit this year. I loved it but haven't used it for awhile now.

If you like the old school games you can download them for like $5 on the wii. You have to connect the wii to the internet and you can then download them. I downloaded super mario brothers 3 and zelda.

My MIL got us the Wii.. we love it. Especially golf and bowling. She got lucky and got some deal with 9 games and the nunchucks for 50 bucks. We have done boxing and we find that it is a total work out. We love it.

*raises hand* I have a Wii as well. For me, it wasn't hard to get used to at all. I love Tennis, Bowling, and Boxing. We also have Super Mario Galaxy, though it's been ages since I played it. I may have to pick that up again and start playing. (Right now I'm addicted to Oblivion on PC.)

Anyway, be careful on what accessories you get...some of them just aren't necessary. Driving games? Yeah, the wheel is more of a bother to me than not using one. I prefer to just hold the Wiimote in my hand. Sports Pack Nerf accessories? Complete waste...don't get them.

Games like DDR? Well, the mat is necessary.

Smash Bros. is a BLAST to play. Some buddies and I had a Smash Bros. Tourney night, and they all really enjoyed it.

And game cost? Be glad you're only paying $50...XBox 360 and PS3 are $60 regularly. Wii games are "cheap" by comparison. I'd suggest checking your local game store's "Used" section. You can usually find some deals that way.

I thought the Wii was the coolest thing the first time I tried it. The bowling game is really fun. And then watching me try to play any other sports game on there is hilarious... rather much like watching me play sports in real life. I don't have one, but my sister does.

It is dumb how they sell so many separate peices... like for instance, I didn't know the controller charger didn't come with the game. My fiance went to get another controller for his mom's, and that's when I realized that the charger was separate. Craziness.

I think the first "game" I would want would be Wii Fit. It sounds nifty.

I love my Wii. :) You definitely don't need the steering wheel add-on. If you get Mario Kart, it's way easier to play with Gamecube controllers than the Wii-motes. Same with Smash Bros. Those are both really great games. WarioWare is a good party game. If you like strategy RPGs, check out Fire Emblem (also can be played with the Gamecube controller).

I've been searching high and low for them here, but no luck.

Anyways, I've only played it once, but I'm sooo hooked. I love the bowling game. I suck at bowling (highest score ever was 90!), but this I can easily get over a 100!!

Wait, controller charger? They just run on AA batteries. Do the other controllers not?

OMG, I looooove our Wii. I bought one last July for me and FH. (He gave me money to buy a Coach purse for an anniversary present, but I found a Wii, and I jumped on it! he was so surprised, especially since I turned down a Coach bag!)

I just got my Wii Fit last week (check Toys R Us and Circuit City, but this website is how I found mine, it emails me every morning with Wii Fit availability - http://www.zoolert.com/wiifit.php)

I love the Wii Fit as well! The Basic & Advanced Step Aerobics are a blast for me.

My favorite games are Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wii Fit as for games that you're actually moving around, activity, etc.

Some of my other favs are My Sims and Mario Galaxy.

As for accessories, Wii Play is like $50, and comes with an extra WiiMote, so you get a game AND wiimote for that price, when the WiiMotes are $40 alone....

I also bought a value pack at Sam's that has a WiiMote, classic controller, and nunchuk, so I got all my accessories within like 2 months, so I am done with that!

I don't have the chargers either, or rechargable batteries. I have 4 wiimotes, so one of them usually always has full batteries.

I just buy the 28, 30, 36 pack of AA batteries, and that seems to keep us under control, playing a few hours a week, give or take.

Yeah, the controllers just run on AA batteries, but we figured the batteries would die quickly if the Wii was played a lot, so we thought it'd just be easier to get the charger.

We have had a Wii for a while and just got a PS3 which I like better, so we actually don't play Wii that much. but if you like the regular mario titles, maybe you should try paper mario, it does have the video clips but I think thats all modern games. Guitar hero is also alot of fun, but this is $90 since it has a guitar. I also really like the Legend of Zelda Twighlight Princess. Its more of an rpg but still alot of fun.

I don't get into MySims as much as Sims on the PC. I get irritated with my Wiimote, because I can sit down and play My Sims (versus something like bowling or tennis where I'm standing) and I realized very quickly that my 60 inch TV and the Sensor bar don't work very well when I'm sitting on the couch! :sob:

Playing the Wii.
