Hey, just wondering if anyone has been to/had a wedding with a purple bride? Purple is my absolute favouritest colour, and I am considering wearing it myself.

Not just any purple though, this kind of purple:

I love the dress and I love the color!! It will be perfect for bridesmaids. As someone else said before it is your wedding so do what makes you happy. How about for FH does he agrees?

When I was young, I thought I would be a light purple bride... I think it's a great idea!

I think thats a very pretty color, and the dress is pretty as well. I have never seen a purple bride, I have seen red, black, and pink (so why not purple) but its your wedding do what you want and what will make you happy.

I think she is thinking of this for herself not her bridesmaids.

By the way, I love the the colour purple and although I have never seen a purple bride before, I'm sure you'll make a lovely one!

Thanks everyone! I wore a similar-coloured dress to my year 10 Formal (prom) and have loved it ever since.

I think that would be beautiful and very original. Just remember its your wedding so do it your way

Yeah, I don't mind being original!! There won't be much that is traditional about my wedding, so don't see why I should look traditional :winktongue:

This is a Maggie dress that I altered the colour on, along with a few others. I made a collage of them and sent them to a custom tailor where I live to see if she could make me something similar. I like the shape and style of that one, so I may end up with a very similar one. Hope so!

I love the dress and I love the color!! It will be perfect for bridesmaids. As someone else said before it is your wedding so do what makes you happy. How about for FH does he agrees?

Yep, FH really likes the dress and is fine with me wearing it. He mainly wants me to be happy, and I think he knows how freaking crazily happy purple dress would make me :winktongue:

It would be nice for bridesmaids, but I think I'd prefer it for me. http://kimsweddingwork.googlepages.com/purpleburgparty22copy.jpg has what I'm contemplating for bridesmaids.

I considered going for red, but purple is more my colour... Thanks for your enthusiasm :grinhappy:

Oh I love the colors. Jewel tones are always beautiful and nearly always flattering to wear!

I also considered a magenta dress many times as it is my favorite color. In fact I'm having a hard time figuring red into how I want the wedding to look. I hope I don't start second-guessing my dress!

Thanks!!! I had a hard time thinking about BM's colours... I was trying a light goldy colour but my Groomsman hated it (lol, thus far he has been the biggest help with colours!!). I went back to the AA claret colour with white to soften it... I like it :D

Oooh, don't second-guess your dress!!! It's gorgeous!! You could maybe do red/magenta/white or something...? Do you have a colour for your BMs yet?

We don't have any attendants, just the two of us. So this makes picking "colors" sort of easy, but also it's easy to not do it. I was thinking warm neutrals like beige, chocolate, off-white, then shades of green and than a few splashes of red (me being the biggest splash of red of course! ;)). But then with this enchanted forest/summer evening sort of theme we were thinking colors may be irrelevant? Or maybe greens anyway. Ok sorry, stealing your thread!

Purple=yay! ;)

Hey! I've never seen a purple bride, but think it's GORGEOUS!!! Purple is the main color for our wedding - just like the color you had up (a deep purple) with lighter purple, silver and white accents. Purple is a really pretty, romantic color, yet isn't too girly to scare off the guys :-P

Ooh, no attendants, that does make it easy! Cream/Chocolate/Latte colours always look good together, and you would definitely stand out!!! If there is lots of green around you and you aren't sure about whether to include it, you could just have it as a small accent on some things...? You could always do a green and chocolate/cream colour scheme, and have splashes of red, as you said... ooh, pretty!!

Lol, its all related... but purple = yay, hooray! :P

Thanks!! I thought the white might soften the colours a little. I made them on the Alfred Angelo mix-n-match bridesmaids page :)

acidcookie agrees: Ah yeah sorta! Cool :) Green and red are complimentary colors so they look fabulous together, except to most people they say "CHRISTMAS!" Arg.

yeah that's why I went looking for a light green, so that it didn't look too christmassy.

I love the idea of brides in color, but like so many that responded to this thread, I'm biased ~ as I'm wearing royal blue (with just a touch of white in the middle). I think purple is a beautiful color and specifically the one that you showed in the picture. It's bold and makes a statement.

Aww thank you! That's lovely!! :grinhappy: I don't mind if everyone is biased, I more just wanted some affirmation before I went ahead with the idea... :D

Is there anywhere to see your dress? It sounds lovely!!

Thanks :D I've found one dressmaker here in my city that says she can make me pretty much anything I want, so now the only factor is cost :winktongue:

There was one skirt I particularly liked, and one top as well, so I morphed them into this:

http://kimsweddingwork.googlepages.com/purplemorphdresscopy.jpg
Not perfect obviously, but I'm hoping the designer can do something like that with a smaller skirt. Will have to see what she says.

Royal purple is my favorite color, and my dress will be that color (when I make it). The style you "morphed" is great and that's the reason some brides opt for custom. You can have the bodice, skirt, sleeves (or not), etc. that you want.
Go for it, and definitely let us see pictures along the way!

Ooh, another purple bride!! That's fantastic! :grinhappy: I wish I was skilled enough to make my own dress, save me a lot of hassle!

I do love the morphed dress, but I don't think i can get away with the big skirt. I'm looking at a completely different dress atm for financial reasons (FH wants me to spend a lot less on a dress).

Who knows where it will lead... But I am planning to stick with the purple, and will post pics as things develop! :grinhappy:

PS are there any sketches or anything of what your dress might look like..?

Is custom-made out of the question then?

Since you have awhile to find it, I'd recommend raiding the prom dress/formalwear section of nice department stores or teen stores that have that sort of thing right after prom - like in July or August! This is how I got my dress for my Aunt's BT wedding - It was a gorgeous eggplant, which isn't quite royal purple, but I'm sure you can find something like that, and I only spent $40 on it! I got it at DEB, which is still around in some malls.

As much as I would love to go with the custom-made deal, I was quoted anything from $1500 - $3500 for a dress. I can't justify spending that much, and FH really isn't too keen either. I should probably go and look at formal dresses, but I should be doing that now actually (our Formals are in Nov usually). I won't get a chance after that until January as I go overseas for my arch fieldschool. I have so long I can probably look next year, but finding something on a rack somewhere to fit me..? Not likely! :winktongue: I rarely ever see corset-back formal dresses here, but I absolutely need one if it is ever going to fit ok. $40 is an awesome price, but I don't think I could find anything here remotely close. Unfortunately a lot of things like that are very expensive here in Oz.

There is the option of having something made in China and directly shipped here for about US$300 which is what I'm looking at atm. They allow custom colour and measurements for no extra cost but you can't return it. They have a dark purple colour, but I'm waiting on swatches before I decide if it is a nice purple or not!
http://kimsweddingwork.googlepages.com/530-5.jpg is the dress I've been looking at (smaller skirt and I like the overlay). It can be made in a dark purple with similar tulle and embroidery etc. Not sure what's going to happen, I should stop looking for a year or so! :winktongue:

Actually yeah, I should just stop looking at this sort of thing for another year. Lol, easier said than done!! Thanks for your help Rosie! :grinhappy:

I will be fabricating my dress (cocktail length, for my second wedding) from Vogue Pattern 1014. I can't attach my picture (it's too big), but if you go to voguepatterns.com and enter the number into the search box, it will come up.
