Hi There... I am getting married in St. Thomas next August and our reception is on a a sailboat (65' sloop), going to St. John's. Just curious if anyone has ever done this... would love feedback!

I have never seen this personally, but a DJ I once knew talked about a wedding he did on a boat once :)

As long as you don't get sea sick and you enjoy that sort of thing I am sure it would be great :D

Good luck!

I am hoping it will be a fun way to make the destination a little more fun and laidback (we're all about keep it in small and fun). Thanks!!!

Wow sounds like fun. How many people are you having?

The boat allows us to have 38 people total. Since this is a second wedding, we want something small and different. As it stands now, we *think* we'll have around 25 people. We'll see... my STDs go out in 2 weeks....

That is such a cool idea! Just make sure that you offer dramamine as a wedding favor! I remember not thinking I would get seasick the first time I was on a boat... I was mistaken! :buck:

We are having our wedding on my parents' yacht which is roughly the sizre of this sloop. We have ahd parties there before and it is really fantastic.

However we have decided to have our ceremony on the yacht and reception at a local restaurant. Maybe something to consider.

That's a really great suggestion... I am torn- the beach we've chosen is secluded and on a beautiful cay. I'd hate to lose that (can't have reception there- thought of it...). I have just over 13 months- the right set up will pan out I'm sure. Thanks for your thoughts! :D

We had our wedding 2 years ago on a private beach on Lake Erie (Ontario) and our reception on a charter fishing boat afterwards...it was beyond fantastic!! I would recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors. We were only engaged 2 months and had little planning/fretting time. I look at our photos today and LOVE everything about that day. I say do it! Do things the way you envision them.

We ate fish and chips on the boat, nobody felt seasick - we had clear umbrellas for the ceremony in case of rain(as favours) and no other back-up.

My aunt had her wedding on a boat on the Columbia River. It turned out really well and I don't remember anyone getting sick.

Just don't let your DJ/musician do what my other aunt (married aunt's sister) wanted to do- she was the pianist and since Titanic had just come out that year, she thought it would be a cute idea to play "My Heart Will Go On". Fortunately my dad and aunt talked her out of playing the theme song from a movie where the boat sinks.

OMG! Didn't even give the Titanic thing a thought.... Thanks for the "heads up"!

Around here we have some large riverboats (yep, from the Mark Twain era), also called paddleboats because of the big paddlewheel in back that propells them. Or did, until steam and then combustion engines took over . . . .

Anyhow, a river cruise one a riverboat is a very popular option here and we actually looked into it at first, but it was too expensive for us.

I, however, love to sail and I think the idea of having your reception on a sloop on the way to St. John's is a FABULOUS idea. So exciting!
