DH and I really need to remodel our bathrooms; we have been talking about it for the whole nearly 6 yrs we have been here. They are pretty old and the master is really bad, I mean falling tiles bad!

About a year ago we bought some tile on sale to do the floor and tub surround for both bathrooms; we also got a sink cabinet and new sinks too. We still need a tub and a few other little things; we just need to come up with a little more money and some time to do it all ... which may still take months more ... anyway ...

So we were talking about it earlier and DH said he wants to put tiles on the walls too. The walls are wallpapered now and it would be PITA to remove and it would look bad painted over ... at least that is his reasoning for wanting to tile the walls.

Well I think tile on the walls and tile on the floor and tub surround will be too much. DH doesn't think so; he thinks since the tiles will be different sizes and colors that it won't look bad.

So what do you guys think ... tile the walls or no?

I think I would have to see pics to determine what to do :)! How big are the tiles? Would it be the same tile on the floor and the walls? if that is the case, yes I think that would be too much!

Yeah....if they're the same, it'll be too much, IMO. I do love tiled walls in bathrooms, though...especially subway tiles like this:

Or mosaics are cool:

My husband remodeled my moms bathroom as her christmas present. He does that type of work for a living.

Here are some before and after pictures.

Jacob says that the demo part is the easiest. The hardiest or rather annoying part is cutting the tile. To get a good cut you should use a wet tile saw otherwise those cheap ones at home depot would break your tiles or take a long time. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will ask him or have him call u :)

As you may know we have been seeing a LOT of houses lately .... I love tile walls; especially floor to ceiling in the shower area. It makes it so much easier to clean.

With that said, think about re-sell. All that work will be well worth it. Change up the type or size of tiles but make sure that they compliment each other and try to stick to neutral colours.

What colour and size are the tiles that you have?

Some of the pictures posted are sort of making me feel a little better about the idea ...

The tiles we got for the shower surround walls and the floor are sort of black and white and gray checkered pattern; they are about 4x4 inch squares. When we picked out these tiles I wanted to paint the walls sort of a gray with white trim. The tiles DH wants to put on the walls are a dark charcoal and are bigger; but we haven't actually bought those yet.

For the other bathroom we have rust colored tiles; not sure what his plans for that one are yet, but I am sure he wants to do tile on the walls there too.

Black, grey and charcoal sound very zen spa like! Should be nice!

Just be careful with the black and white tiles- we have a bathroom here at work that has those two inch black and white mosaic tiles on both the floors and the walls and it makes you nauseous when you go into it. :D Now, on a bigger scale, I think the black, white and grey would be very nice!

Tile the walls! It makes life so much easier. If you get the right sort of tiles they might even make your small bathroom look bigger!

I know the trend right now is for tiny little 'mosaic' tiles but to me they always look like the floor of my highschool girl's locker room! And the locker room at the Y where we go now! So for me, those little colored tiles are never going to happen.

I'm seriously considering painting our existing bathroom wall tiles. The main color in our bathroom is a dingy tan (anybody sensing a theme here, with the previous decor?) and it just makes the whole room look dirty and yucky. I'm hoping that if I paint them a bright shiny white that our bathroom will actually look clean, for once.
