Anyone know anything about it, what it's really like there?

My mom had a job interview and is asking my opinion.

I can't give you specifics on Tyler other than it is the Rose Capital of Texas, but I have lived small town Texas for the last 10 years or so, and grew up in Austin (city) so I can give general Texas info. Is there something in particular you want to know about?

Here is the Tyler Covention and Visitors Bureau Website-

When I lived in Greenville, Texas close to Tyler the +'s were:
* Small town not a lot of crime
* Houses are not one on top of the other
* Took 5 minutes to get across town
* Know your neighbors, People in Texas are naturally friendly

the -'s
* Small town not a lot of choices for grocery stores, banks, newspapers
* Every body knows your business and they talk about it. Nothing else to do

I think becasue it is East Texas which RC talks badlly about there are lots of people there who are what you would call "come here's". Kinda like Yankee's moving south or New Yorker's moving to Florida. (Please I didn't mean anything bad by that just saying) It's all what you make of it. Just don't keep saying where you came from is so much better than where you're at.

Thanks! I'll pass that info onto my mom.

I grew up in small town Texas and got the h3ll outta there as soon as possible! LOL Some people love it though and hate coming into Houston. I'm not familiar with Tyler in particular, but the thing that I've found in other small Texas towns is that they're super friendly people as long as you don't look or think too differently than them. As I got older that bothered me a lot. I loved the serenity, but I would also get bored often because there was very little to do compared to the city. I'm sure there are also other things that I'm just not thinking of right now.

I agree with what Elizabeth said too! :)
