Ok, so when we were setting our wedding date, I got all excited that July 4, 2009 was a Saturday because it's my absolute favorite day of the year (one of my FH's favorites too!) We decided that June 27 would be a better date since we have people both flying and driving in and travel would be more pleasant. I just went home to visit my parents (3 hours away.) My sister was visiting from Atlanta and MOH up from FL. While discussing our wedding plans and how we set the date - they seemed to think that the 4th of July would be great.

Was I worrying for nothing? Should we change the date? Either way, fireworks are a must. I love fireworks:D

Do you think people would be less apt to come because it's a holiday?

I would do which ever day ya'll want. As for travel it would probably be a little less hectic off a holiday....and since you've changed it once do you want to change it again? Then agian if your wedding is a while off and no one knows yet you could go back to your original date. well I'm no help:)

But seriously anyone that wants to be there will make arrangements to do so holiday or not....don't know if you may have seen in another thread my sis wedding is in november, the weekend of Thanksgiving, and she is doign that b/c our other sisters will already be in town for Thanksgiving there by limiting the time & money they have to spend to come for her wedding. As to anyone else true its thanksgiving week but if guest are aware of the date in advance and want to come arrangements can be made regardless of a holiday.

We tossed around date ideas but we only set the June 27th date a couple weeks ago. Only a few immediate family members know. We have a 4th of July bash every year. The date question came up at this year's event and when we said we were thinking June 27th, everyone panicked and said, "Does that mean no 4th of July party??? :bbcry:" Those friends plan on being at our house on the 4th anyway. Heck, if we're on our honeymoon then, they might just party there without us!

We briefly considered the 4th next year as an option too, especially because it's a Saturday and from the lodge where our wedding is will probably have a great view of fireworks, which are awesome here. I don't think people would be less likely to come (really I can't imagine someone going "well I'd go see her get married but there's this party that night.."), but any driving might certainly be worse.

Also remember vendors charge more on holidays and some don't even work those days. Travel cost more on holidays, hotel raise their prices up and of course the whole no 4th of july party for some people.

If there was a problem it would cause a lot of problems because it would be hard to find a replacement.

Just a thought when deciding on a holiday as your wedding day.

On the good side, its a holiday and everyone already has off to come. Also you can work the fireworks in there somehow and make it a wedding +1 :D

Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm not super concerned with the vendors. Our wedding and reception will be at our country home. We have a small budget so we're getting a lot of help from our friends and family - photography, bartending, music. Several family members are trying to get a few 2 bedroom timeshares about 20 minutes away and we're planning an after party for the younger crowd and people are probably going to crash at the house. I guess my main concern other than traffic is the caterer. This is my main concern anyway. FH would be happy with a pig roast!

It sounds like most people we be around anyway on the 4th for the annual party. Plus, more people have a long weekend like that for the holiday so that is always a plus for those who will be traveling. And since you don't have to worry abou tmany vendors, I think it sounds like the perfect wedding date.
How awesome to end the night watching fireworks!

A pig roast would be cool! :D

I LOVE the idea of the 4th. I wanted to do that after we set our date in August. The idea of fireworks is what got me too. I think it would be fun!!!!

We got married this year on the 4th of July!! It was a blast!! I had no trouble finding vendors at all. I did have a few people who said they couldn't come because they had plans, but I don't know that they would've come for sure even if it had been a different date. You're always going to have some people who aren't going to come. It sounds like most of your friends would definitely attend if they're usually with you anyway that day. We did not see any fireworks that night. If they went off, we were too busy dancing and having fun inside. But we did discuss how every year on our anniversary it will be great to be able to watch fireworks together. I think it's very romantic. Good luck and let us know what you decide!!
