Hi everyone!
I've been posting on this site for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd finally start a journal to keep everyone (including myself) organized on what's going on!!!
OUR STORY. Paul and I met five years ago (our anniversary is this Friday!). I was between my 1st and 2nd years of college, and he was between his 3rd and 4th, at a college about 40 minutes away. We each posted a profile on a dating website - he contacted me, and then we talked online for about a week, at which point he coyly asked me to go to a movie with him. It was great! We were both the shy type, but it was SO easy and fun to be together. A year and a half after we met, we moved in together. And now, here we are :) Paul proposed on Christmas Eve of last year, 2007, at his parents annual holiday party by writing "Will you Marry Me" in Christmas Lights on the front of his parents garage. It made us laugh when first I couldn't read it (it was too small, even when I backed up and squinted), and then I was kissing him throughout his "proposal speech" so that he couldn't get it out. At home later that night, I came out of the bathroom to find Paul kneeling down in the hallway. He said that he wanted to say all of the things he couldn't before because I was kissing him. It was very sweet, especially for a guy who has only a fraction of romance in his body.
THE WEDDING. Though we got engaged in December, we decided to wait until summer to start planning (after I finished graduate school). A lot of the planning has been done by yours truly, but I don't exactly mind. So far:
Date: June 27th, 2009
Venue: Ravenwood Golf Course, Victor, NY
Wedding Party: We have our wedding party chosen, and I have asked all of my side, though Paul has yet to ask two of his
Man of Honor: My brother, Kyle
Bridesmaids: Childhood/high school friend Marie, Paul's cousin and my friend Laurie, and graduate school friends Sara, Megan and Meg.
Best Man: Paul's brother, Adam (hasn't asked him yet!)
Groomsmen: Paul's college friends Gabe (hasn't asked yet), Jason and Eric
Colors: Purple, silver and white
Band: We're hoping to book a band that plays where I grew up called "Mort and the Innertubes" (I know, what a name, right?!)
Florist: Paul's aunt owns a flower shop, and his mom works there, so we're set!
Photographer: My cousin who just graduated HS got a full scholarship to St. John's University for photography, so we asked him to do it. But because he's so young (and still an amateur), we're also booking a professional. We've met with one so far and loved her, but still want to look a little.
Dress: I've found two that I like - On August 2nd, my bridesmaids and mom and grandma and aunts are all getting together to see both and help me decide, then my parents are putting on a picnic - another reason I love them!
I'm doing a lot of crafty stuff on my own, like putting together my bridesmaids kits, kissing balls for the ceremony aisle, and overlays for the tables. I'm thinking of also doing my own veil, and I think we're gonna do our own invitations too.
So that's it for now. The styrofoam balls for my kissing balls just came yesterday, and now I'm so excited to get them started!
Good luck to everyone here. I'm really looking forward to lots of input from some veterans along the way!!!!!
