Hi everyone!

I've been posting on this site for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd finally start a journal to keep everyone (including myself) organized on what's going on!!!

OUR STORY. Paul and I met five years ago (our anniversary is this Friday!). I was between my 1st and 2nd years of college, and he was between his 3rd and 4th, at a college about 40 minutes away. We each posted a profile on a dating website - he contacted me, and then we talked online for about a week, at which point he coyly asked me to go to a movie with him. It was great! We were both the shy type, but it was SO easy and fun to be together. A year and a half after we met, we moved in together. And now, here we are :) Paul proposed on Christmas Eve of last year, 2007, at his parents annual holiday party by writing "Will you Marry Me" in Christmas Lights on the front of his parents garage. It made us laugh when first I couldn't read it (it was too small, even when I backed up and squinted), and then I was kissing him throughout his "proposal speech" so that he couldn't get it out. At home later that night, I came out of the bathroom to find Paul kneeling down in the hallway. He said that he wanted to say all of the things he couldn't before because I was kissing him. It was very sweet, especially for a guy who has only a fraction of romance in his body.

THE WEDDING. Though we got engaged in December, we decided to wait until summer to start planning (after I finished graduate school). A lot of the planning has been done by yours truly, but I don't exactly mind. So far:
Date: June 27th, 2009
Venue: Ravenwood Golf Course, Victor, NY
Wedding Party: We have our wedding party chosen, and I have asked all of my side, though Paul has yet to ask two of his
Man of Honor: My brother, Kyle
Bridesmaids: Childhood/high school friend Marie, Paul's cousin and my friend Laurie, and graduate school friends Sara, Megan and Meg.
Best Man: Paul's brother, Adam (hasn't asked him yet!)
Groomsmen: Paul's college friends Gabe (hasn't asked yet), Jason and Eric
Colors: Purple, silver and white
Band: We're hoping to book a band that plays where I grew up called "Mort and the Innertubes" (I know, what a name, right?!)
Florist: Paul's aunt owns a flower shop, and his mom works there, so we're set!
Photographer: My cousin who just graduated HS got a full scholarship to St. John's University for photography, so we asked him to do it. But because he's so young (and still an amateur), we're also booking a professional. We've met with one so far and loved her, but still want to look a little.
Dress: I've found two that I like - On August 2nd, my bridesmaids and mom and grandma and aunts are all getting together to see both and help me decide, then my parents are putting on a picnic - another reason I love them!

I'm doing a lot of crafty stuff on my own, like putting together my bridesmaids kits, kissing balls for the ceremony aisle, and overlays for the tables. I'm thinking of also doing my own veil, and I think we're gonna do our own invitations too.

So that's it for now. The styrofoam balls for my kissing balls just came yesterday, and now I'm so excited to get them started!

Good luck to everyone here. I'm really looking forward to lots of input from some veterans along the way!!!!!

So it's been a while since I posted here and a lot has happened in the last month or so! Here's the update:

MY DRESS.

So on August 2nd, my mom, grandma, and three of my bridesmaids got together to look at the two dresses I had it narrowed down to. First we went to David's Bridal where I thought I had found THE dress. When I came out, my grandma instantly said "I don't like it." Everyone else said it was nice, but I was pretty bummed that nobody had that "oh it's beautiful" comment I was waiting for. Then we went to a place where they had an Alfred Angelo dress that I liked. It had the pick-up look with the puckering on the bottom. Everyone LOVED it. I was less than in love with it.

So then I was back to square one. I know that it should only matter what I think about the dress, but I want it to be THE PERFECT dress for our day.

So one day my boss called me and told me I didn't need to come into work (I'm an extra for the summer, so when it's slow, I get the day off). So I decided to visit a few stores in the area, including a place called Peggy's Bridal. Once there, they allow you to pick out 5 dresses to try on. Because I'm plus-size, it's rare that I can actually TRY ON a dress in a bridal store. So I got a couple on that weren't for me (I only grabbed them BECAUSE they were in my size). I was left with three that I couldn't get on, but I liked all three of them. There was one in particular that I really liked.

So a few days later my mom went with me to see the three that I picked out. The woman helping us had set them out before our appt so that when we saw them they were all hanging side by side. I instantly looked at the one on the right and said "That's it. That's the one." Since then I've been back once with my dad and once with my brother (my Man of Honor), and every time I got I fall in love with it all over again. The only problem is that I haven't been able to actually try it on. So hopefully when I get it in, it looks as good on me as it does on the hanger!

WEDDING PARTY: Paul FINALLY asked his brother to be his best man. His brother said "Duh, I knew you were going to ask me" and we all had a laugh at Paul's procrastination! However, he has yet to ask Gabe, his last groomsman.

PHOTOGRAPHER: My cousin took our engagement photos, and we were SO impressed (attached) that we think we're going to ask him to do the whole wedding. We'll save a LOT of money that way.

I think that's about it for now. I'm relieved that I found my dress and am more energized about the planning now that that part is over. More updates to follow!
