Has anyone seen this site: http://www.freewebs.com/thesandframe/index.htm?
If you didn't look, it's a set with two cylinder vases and then the thing that you pour it into is a picture frame. They custom make them. Very creative idea, I think. I've been trying to find something that we can display where it won't make a mess if (actually, probably when) it gets tipped over. I don't think I'll order one though 'cause they're $65.

I have seen them, only because the vendor posted about them here a while back ;)
They are nice, but like you said, a little pricey.
I wonder if you could DIY something similar?

I would start with a shadowbox:

Maybe drill through the top of the frame and find a plug for that.

That's what I was thinking. My best friend wants one now, too because I just emailed her the link. I'll get working and let you guys know how it turns out.

I love it! It puts my my current sand ceremony vases to shame. I think this is my next DIY project.

I ended up getting a shadow box at Target for $15 or $19. It had three separate pieces of glass inside. I had a guy at work drill a hole in the top (nice to work in a manufacturing environment sometimes). Anyways, I never could locate a stopper for it and basically freaked about the hole not being big enough, so we stuck with the original vase, but we had three heart-shaped vases that we poured the sand from. So it still turned out okay. And I bought extra sand so that I could eventually try out my "project." I just didn't want to try it on the big-day, which kind of defeats the purpose I suppose.
