I was thinking about doing save the date refrigerator magnet but then i seen these really nice cheap cards with and our pic can be put on then at walmart i'm a little torn because i don't want people to get the card a year before hand and just loose it verses the magnet can just stay on the fridge what do you think?

Personally, I LOVE the magnet idea, but I found out about them after I had already got my cards.

I think if they have your picture on them, they would be alot better then just a plain piece of cardstock. It's really based on personal preference, you gotta remember that sending a magnet in the mail is going to cost alot more.

How many people are you inviting? If you are inviting 75+, Id suggest the picture save the date, but if you have a smaller venue, Id think the magnet would be cooler.

I ended up getting the magnets.. i first tried to get the ones that i print myself.. they didnt' turn out too good..so.. i managed to get half of them right.. so i'm sending them out and this time .. i'm buying the better magnets... lol

The card idea is a lot cheaper..but i had the same fear..that ppl would get it.. set it down and either loose it or throw it away. I rather spend the little extra on a magnet and know that once they stick it .. it's staying put! lol :D

I did the refrigerator magnets. Sign up at vistaprint.com and you'll start receiving emails for freebies or discounted magnets (along with a lot of other stuff). You can design your own too so you'll be able to upload your pic onto it if you want. We ordered 50 of them and with shipping it was about $27. I bought envelopes at Office Max and postage was only 42 cents.

Here's mine:

Nice. But the shape is too awkward. Maybe u can choose heart style, or circle, etc.

I wouldn't call it awkward - it's just a square magnet but to each their own. I was very happy with them and for the price I wasn't going to be picky about the shape.

Yup, that wasnt a big problem, about the shape. Still a beautiful thing. :D

We made our own magnets on 8 1/2 X 11 magnet paper, then just cut them out...everyone loved them. and I didn't have to use extra postage, just a regular stamp on a regular envelope. good luck!!

here's mine http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=17556

Yep and since you can design your own, you can upload a pic of you and your FH too! I sent mine out 6 months in advance but I think sending them with your holiday cards to save on postage is a great idea. I'm all for saving $$. As I'm sure you know we love pics so don't forget to post one. :)

We did the magnets too and they were a big hit. Actually we have about 80 left over because like an idiot I ordered 200 thinking we were having 200 guests, not thinking that it's about 100 couples! We think we might use them to cover the honeymoon getaway car after the reception! LOL!

This is where we got ours:

Here is my prototype. I did vista print too. Made my own cards with cardstock.

I am going to make some tonight. I am adding a stamp of a wedding cake to the outside of the envelope.

You could design your own business card size and upload it to Staples. (http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/c23_Custom-Products-Custom-Business-Card-Magnets_51316_46753_Business_Supplies_10051_Custom +Products) They will make a magnet out of it.

I really like Magnet Street (http://www.magnetstreet.com/store/home/market/517) too. They have a lot of really nice predesigned ones you can add your photo to.

What sort of program are some of you using to design your own cards to upload to Staples and etc? Vistaprint offered me free stuff (as usual) and I really want to design my own magnet instead of paying their $19.99 design fee but I don't have a program to do so (I think?). My computer isn't even a year old and I see nothing that would allow me to do such a thing???

I think magnets are such a cute idea. I only had 5 months to plan my wedding but it was on a holiday weekend. When the planning started, I could not convince my fiance or my mom that it was a good idea. Ugh.

As a wedding planner, I offer this to my brides. As a service, I charge $15 so their fee isn't that high.

Magnet Street has quite a few predesigned ones that still let you upload your own photo.

To design you own, you would need a program like Photoshop or other graphics/photo program that lets you combine pictures and text. Here are a few tips: You will need to make sure that the photos you use are 300 dpi (pixels). Don't stretch any photo to make it bigger to fit the pixels can get distorted and look bad when you print.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I did save the date magnets and it is the best thing, not to mention the postage was the same at a regular piece of mail. Sometimes you have to be careful, too big of save the date cards could cost more thatn .42 postage I still go into my relatives house and see it on the fridge. It's nice to be reminded of the past. It's been a year and we still have ours up as well. It's functional!
Good Luck

Redhead..
Thanks for the info. I am not so great at designing so I may end-up chalking-up the fee and letting them do it - or go with a designer/maker of stds and invites that will do it all included in the price, that sorta thing. We shall see. My budget isn't so tight that I can't get what I want... but it is where I want it... I want us to start our life together debt free, which is really important to me. I'll have to see for sure when the time comes...

...but I definitely plan on putting STDs in Christmas cards - another great idea from OW!!! I think people will love getting magnets in the Christmas cards and it will save postage money! I found a site that lets you design your own Christmas card and ours will say "The Future XXX Family" ... it will have a cartoon character of him, me, & my/our dog. :D

Thanks again!

go with the magnets!

you can get business card paper from staples and print them yourself. then buy business card size magnets with a sticky side and stick the cards to them. All under $50 and so easy!
