State Fair Photo contest

I entered 4 photos into our state fair photography contest. I'm excited to see if mine will get picked for display. I should find out in a few weeks.

Here are the 4 I entered

This one I entered into the theme "night visions" I titled it 'sparks of love'. I took this one last year using sparklers.

This one I took this when John Edwards was campaigning. I titled it "political season" and entered it into People.

This one I took at the races. I entered it into Sports and title it "Lighting Up The Night"

This one is my favorite. I went to a farm with my fiance and his friend to look at a old car. They had junk laying everywhere and this typewriter was laying on the ground. So I got down really low to it and took this photo. I converted it to B&W and entered it into B&W Things, title it "Lost Letters"

Yep. I forget how long the exposure was but I put it on a tripod, used my remote. I would get my sparkler and get ready. then hit the button and spell stuff out in the air. Here is one I just did a big circle

Good luck! DH and I saved some sparklers from the 4th so we can do some long exposures as well. I am really looking forward to using these in particular because the sparkle-bits look like stars! And we have a Lensbaby kit that turns light sources into stars...it MIGHT be star-overboard, but we'll just have to play around with it and see!

I got a card in the mail today that one of my photos was chosen for display for the state fair photography contest and I got an award!!!! WOOO HOOO. I'm so excited. I entered 4 photos and one was chosen. My co-worker entered 4 and none of hers were chosen. Her husband entered 4 and one of his was chosen and got an award. My sister entered one but didn't get chosen for display. I won't know which photo was chosen or what award until Aug. 5th at the reception and award ceremony. I can't wait!!

:D I found out Tuesday night at the Photography Salon that I got 3rd Place!!

There were a total of 3,601 photos entered into the contest. Of those 806 were chosen for display and of those 208 won ribbons. In the category I entered mine in there were 101 entered 30 chosen for display and 8 got ribbons. I got 3rd place in that class. After finding out how many were entered it's a great accomplishment to even be chosen for display but to win an award is awesome. I also got $50 for 3rd place.
