View Full Version : First Appointment, What Should I Expect?

My MOH is in town for the month (she currently lives in NC. but she'll be in NY next year for like two-three months before the wedding to help plan.) and we're going to David's Bridal tomorrow (Tuesday).

It's just going to be the two of us. And we're so excited. And I'm pretty sure my mom is going to meet us there, if she gets out of work on time. We'll see.

I know it's early (We have 13 months and 28 days, been counting. hehe.) but I want my MOH to help me while she's in NY. Besides, I'm a very organized person. Hell, I already wrote my vows. (They'll be revised numerous times before the wedding date, though, knowing me.)

Only thing is, I don't know what to expect. Can anyone give me a few tips? The appointment is at 2 and it's 1 in the morning here right now. Not a lot of time.

Thanks in advance.

Dunno if you are still on, but I thought I could tell you about my David's appointment, and maybe that would help!

Basically they just let me look through all the dresses on the rack for a bit, and then the ones that I liked the girl pulled out and put in a fitting room for me. Then when we had a bunch in the fitting room she helped me get into each one and walk out to the mirror. Basically I decided if I liked it or not and she either put it back, or kept it out based on what I said. If there was something special that I liked she went to see if there were any other gowns with a similar feature.

I didn't end up buying my gown there, but for a bridal gown beginner (like I was!!) it was a pretty painless experience. :)

The only tip I have is to keep an open mind. You might have a style in your head that you are wanting, but be willing to try different things on - you might be surprised what looks good!

Hope that helps!

Thanks. That helps a lot.

How long did you stay there about? I want to know if calling my mom is worth it because she gets out at 3. An hour after the appointment begins.

Oh, and they don't allow cameras, do they (I wouldn't expect them to, but it doesn't hurt to ask)? My MOH is a picture fanatic.

We took tons of pictures at David's...they encourage it...at least here they do!

Good Luck!! We got all our bridesmaid dresses and shoes there.

I would allow a couple of hours.

For my first appointment, I took pictures of gowns I liked to show the sales consultant, which helped her pick out other gowns with similar details, etc... that I might like. However, as said above, keep an open mind. Many of us have found that the dress we end up falling in love with is far, far different than the ones we first pick out of magazine ads. Once you try a few things on, see what works for your body, what makes you feel beautiful, it'll give you a good idea what direction to go into.

David's I believe already has the long line strapless bras, as well as shoes, to try dresses on with, however if you have these things, it can't hurt to take them with you.

Don't put pressure on yourself to try to find "the" dress on your first trip. Chances are you'll go to a few bridal shops, and try on a lot of gowns before you find "the one." For this trip, just try to narrow down some styles or details that you like, then it'll make your next trip that much easier.

Good luck, and have fun!!!

I took tons of pictures each time I went to David's Bridal. Our camera even takes 3-minute videos, so we did that too, and I'm SO glad we did that because it let me remember exactly how I felt about each dress... instead of just looking at the smile-y photos of all the dresses.

The two that I went to, they gave me a catalog and let me point out the ones that I liked the look of, and they pulled those, and then from there they would say "oh, we have something similar" or whatever.

But YES, stay openminded. I NEVER thought I wanted a white strapless gown, but that's what I got...

GOOD LUCK! :grinhappy:

I found THE DRESS on the first trip. I can't believe it. I love it. We spent three hours there. And I bought it. I have pictures. My MOH took a lot. I'll post them in the wedding pictures forum.

It's soo pretty.
