Hey everyone.
For anyone who cares, I am letting everyone know I won't be around for a few days because tomorrow I am having my wisdom teeth surgery. I'm kinda freaking out. I have 6 wisdom teeth, and possibly a 7th one. I'll find out after the surgery tomorrow. Has anyone here had there's out? Any advice? Thanks. :)

I was one of the lucky ones to only ever have one set of Teeth and no wisdom teeth. Maybe that's why i'm not wise.
Good Luck with the surgery tomorrow. It must be that time of year for operatons because i'm in hospital on Thursday. But i'm out that evening and after a bit of a kip i'll be back here annoying everyone as before LOL.

Wow you must really be smart! 6 or 7 wisdom teeth. I only had 4 with 2 being impacted. If you can have them put you to sleep, you wake up and it's all over. That's what I did. Be sure to follow the Doctors instructions and if you think your getting a dry socket go back immediately. You'll be fine and even if you don't want to you will lose some weight. Do not drink with a straw. Get you some "Ensure" that way you are getting some nutrients.

Mitch- You're lucky, I wish I didn't have any.
Kgvettegirl-Thanks for the advice! They are putting me under anesthesia, thank God. I really don't plan on eating much for a few days so Ensure would be good, thanks.

Yay, Wisdom Teeth. They put me under for 2 wisdom teeth, so hopefully they'll put you under. It's really not so bad, especially if you keep your mouth clean during the healing process. If they don't give you a syringe, ask for one; I used a syringe and non-alcohol based mouthwash to keep my sockets clean (sometimes food or thick drinks like ensure will build up in the sockets).
Don't be nervous it's really not that bad, and they give you those awesome percocets or oxycotin.

ToySoldier- I never thought about a syringe. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh yeah, I'm getting some Percocet, should be good lol.

Yea and make sure it's a Non-Alcohol based Mouthwash (like Act) the Alcohol based stuff is too sugary and will definitely cause dry sockets.
And percocets make the time pass by swimmingly:grinhappy:

Alright, will do.
haha, I'm sure they do.
This will be the first time I'll be taking such a strong medication. Hopefully my stomach can handle it.

Aww, good luck!! Its not bad at ALL, no worries!!! Just make sure you DON'T use straws after, you will get dry socket! A tip my dentist gave me when i got mine done.. Sleep on a recliner, if you can. Or lots of pillows. You want to sit up more so the blood doesn't keep draining from them. Oh, and if you need your meds, take them!! thats what they are for! You'll be fine. *^^*

I'll be sleeping on a couch but I'll make sure to add some extra pillows and such. Thanks for the tip!

I had one impacted wisdom tooth out in Feb (the others aren't bothering anything so they said they could leave them in) and everyone pretty much covered it for you.
Ice packs to your cheeks as you will likely blow up like a chip monk,
they will probaby give you special mouthwash (I got chlorhexadine wash) and a syringe to keep the sockets dry, some recommend just warm salt water.
No straws- dry socket is a nightmare.
I got Vicodin for the pain, but I only needed it the first night and the next day I was back to work on my feet for 12 hours! (although I only had ONE pulled, not SEVEN!)
Good luck!

I expected the surgery to be much worse then it turned out to be. I was put all the way out too, and I think that was what kept me from worrying too much. I didn't want to know what they were doing in there! I just had 4 of them and had all of them done at once. I think going with something like Ensure for sustanence while healing is a great idea. I was bad and just had milkshakes. Tasted great but my thighs didn't thank me.
Edited to add, seconded on the straw thing. I've had a dry socket before and it's very, very painful. Anything you can do to reduce the risk of that is a good thing.

I had dry sockets and they weren't that bad. I just had to get some REALLY NASTY clove stuff put in them and it all worked out. You are going to LOVE the drugs.

Out of curiosity, who was knocked out for theirs? I was awake the whole time. :D They gave me so much laughing gas.. i was giggling like an idiot. And after they put the gaus in, Steve had to be my translator!
Oh.. another tip! Go pee BEFORE doing it! Haha, wasn't fun to go directly after..
This post has been very educational for me! I'm going to have to get this done soon as well.
Eeek, good luck hun!!

I'm an oddity in that my wisdom teeth all came in normally and I still have them.
So I have no words of advice about the surgery, but just assurance that the teeth are useless anyway. Good riddance! Hope your recovery goes well.

Here is the clinical discription of the dry socket, explains it better then I could lol
Dry socket. Dry socket is a common complication that occurs when either a blood clot has failed to form in the extracted tooth socket or else the blood clot that did form has been dislodged. Without clot formation, healing will be delayed. When it happens, dry socket typically occurs 3 or 4 days following the extraction and is accompanied by pain (ranging from "dull" to moderate to severe) and a foul mouth odor. Your dentist or oral surgeon will treat the dry socket by placing a medicated dressing in the socket. Dressing will need to be removed and replaced every 24 hours until symptoms subside.
For me it was really painful and the stuff they pack the hole with wasn't much help. I think my case was on the worse end though.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out when I was 17. I was drugged and awake during the surgery...I remember grabbing at one of the surgeons and she put a gas mask on me. After the surgery, (the drugs were wearing off by then) I remember crying out loud and I could barely make it to my grandma's car. She drove me home on the highway and I remember trying to open the door and trying to take off my seatbelt; my poor grandma! So when we finally made it home, she had to get the next door neighbor to carry me into the house. My mom picked me up a few hours later. Along the drive home, I got sick. It was a really bad day. The pain medication helped a lot, but when it ran out and I had to start taking aspirin, it was a little uncomfortable. I had a lot of swelling and bruising, looked like a chipmunk for a week, lol! No dry sockets, thank goodness, I kept my gum holes very clean. It's good that you're getting the anaesthesia. No one should have to go what I went through. My mom picked the drugs (and me being awake during the surgery) over the anaesthesia because it was cheaper. :snide: Just follow the rules before and after your surgery and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Ack.. Being awake isn't bad, though. Mom picked the same, cuz it was cheaper... I hope you changed dentists. o.o;;

I had a friend a while back that had her wisdom teeth removed; she said it was pretty painful the first day after, then was fine ... until she got a dry socket! But she was a smoker and didn't stop like they told her to.
All the best!

I didn't get knocked out, I just got some good drugs. I ended up falling asleep anyway because I'd been up all night anxious about doing it, and I was so tired.
One thing about the dry sockets-if you end up getting them, and have to get the clove stuff packed in there, DO NOT eat anything you want to ever crave again. I made the mistake of stopping for a Yoo-hoo on the way home and I am repulsed by the thought of it even now.

Hey thanks for checking up on me.
It's been very slow for me to heal up.
Yesterday was a week and I went back for my follow up and he said he's healing nicely, so that's good.
I still can't really eat and I've lost 6 lbs since the surgery.
Hopefully in the next few days I'll be able to eat a little more than what I am now-Pudding pretty much.
