Just wondering if anyone else if forgoing a honeymoon? I can't see it being possible to go anywheres after paying for almost the entire wedding ourselves.

No way. A honeymoon is like the reward for planning the wedding. I can understand if you are paying for the whole thing on your own though. Maybe you can plan a honeymoon for the following year on your 1st anniversary. That would give you time to save up, andplenty of time toplan. :)

We are paying for our wedding ourselves (though we have had some help from family), and we WERE going to try and go to Jamaica - haha. Isn't going to happen. We were stretched thin already with money for the wedding, and then one of our cats had to be rabies quarantined for 6 months (she's home now! :)) so that was over half our Jamaica budget.

So my mom gave me a week from her time share at a resort in Florida, and we're going there. It's a much cheaper honeymoon (by $3,000), but we're still really looking forward to it!

I would say, let yourself do SOMETHING for a honeymoon... even if you just take a weekend trip somewhere, do something to celebrate the huge step you just took, and it's something that you've been looking forward to for a long time... I wouldn't want to just go back home to the normalcy of life.

Yes we are paying for the wedding ourselves and honestly aren't quite sure how we are even going to do that right now. We have been together for 7.5 years right now and the wedding isn't until next year. We've lived together for 5 years now & bought our first home last year. My parents keep insisting that they are going to help cover the costs, however, when we got engaged we didn't have any expectations of either set of parents helping out because of their respective financial situations. Even though my parents keep insisting they are going to help, I personally don't see how and I am budgeting as if we are covering everything. In all the years we've been together, we've ever only been on 1 vacation together and that was just for a long weekend 3 years ago. I'd love for us to do something but I don't see how this is going to happen.

I agree. :D We were planning on just going somewhere in Texas for a short weekend getaway, but then we got a honeymoon as a gift. Either way we wanted to do a little something honeymoon-ish.

We're waiting until April 2009 (on the anniversary of when we first met!), to go on our honeymoon! There's no way we can afford it immediately after the wedding.

We're planning on going back to work on the Monday after the Wedding.

FH is a workaholic and to get him to take one day off is a nightmare. He was hoping to get Married in the Afternoon so he could go to work in the Morning. :bbeek:

Although i have put my foot down on him taking this Thursday off because i'm going into Hospital for surgery.

I say go somewhere, just to relax and enjoy each other...even if it's for overnite to a motel in the next town. You will want to decompress after all the hoopla of entertaining all your guests. Just my thoughts!!

We paid for our entire wedding and still managed a few days in the Black Hills. It was even spring...and my husband is a farmer!! The Good Lord was looking out for us. It rained almost the entire time we were gone!! LOL

Were going to save up and go on a honeymoon for our one year anniversary. Were just going to take our daughter traveling to special places the week after the wedding.

I think these days with most couples getting married later and at an older age more and more of us are paying for our own weddings. We are paying for our wedding as well by ourselves, and we'll be going to Hawaii for 2 weeks. We planned for a longer engagement (14 months) so we could save for the wedding and the honeymoon.

For us, the honeymoon is the break to enjoy ourselves as a newly married couple after all the hard work of planning and saving for the wedding!

We are stretching it.. But i will seriously cry if i can't have a honeymoon!! We are just going to Niagara falls, though.. We paid for about 95% ourselves. :D

We're paying for most all of the wedding ourselves, so we are really tight on money right now. We're going to go to King's Island for 2 days and just enjoy ourselves. Then hopefully next year we're planning on going to Fiji with my daughter.

We planned a honeymoon in Hawaii for 2 weeks but it will be the month after our wedding. We wont be leaving right after our wedding so we could get back to work. I didnt want to take too much time off from work at once. Since I am already taking off a week for the actual wedding and a week and a half for the honeymoon.

I dont think I could go without the honeymoon. I went to Key West this past weekend (4th of july) Oh man I was not ready to come home! I had been so stressed planning the wedding even with a wedding planner.

Honeymoon doesnt really mean you have to go all out and fly somewhere. Maybe you guys can take some time off and go on a road trip to a nice beach or camping! Well I love camping so its ok for me lol

God made credit cards so that we can go on honeymoons! LOL. Well, that's true in our case. We paid for everything and didn't quite have enough money for Mexico, so I just charged it. I figured if we could save $13k in a year, it wouldn't be too hard to pay off $2500 pretty fast... :)

I'm not sure what our plan will be yet. We're paying for the wedding ourselves so it will depend if the finances are there. We'll try to get away for a least a couple days.

I say go somewhere special even if it's just for a few days!

We're pretty much foregoing the honeymoon. Our circumstances are such that we can't do it right after the wedding. Monday after the wedding we're moving from CA to MO, and since we're gonna have everything we own with us, plus a cat, we're just driving straight there. We may do a series of short trips after my bar exam though, to some cowboy towns. That's gonna be our honeymoon.

We will be going on a honeymoon, but it will not be until February the following year. All the places we are looking at going are in hurricane season in october. So we will go in February when we are missing summer. It is still to nice in October to go some place warm (IMO) We are taking Mon & Tues off the next week to relax and just hang out with eachother!

We didn't have a honeymoon. I had 2 kids before marrying Nicholas and we both were working full time paying for every thing ourselves. We had a week off together. We spent some of the time with my family back home where we got married and then went shopping with the kids and my friend who was here from Austraila. We also hung out at Bike Week here where we live. It was nice to have the time together and with the kids that we didn't normaly get.

We're paying for the wedding ourselves and it's going to be difficult enough just for the wedding. We tried to figure out a way to pay for a honeymoon too, but that won't happen. We might spend a night at his friend's condo in the area, just to get away for the night. Otherwise, we plan on saving for a trip to the Grand Canyon for next year - that will be our anniversarymoon. Lol. The main thing is not to get into debt over trying to do too much at once. If we can't afford the honeymoon, we don't go on it.

LOL! That would be fun, but since they are different islands unless one of us did an inter-island flight we'd be out of luck!

Hope you have a great trip!:D

Is this your first time in Hawaii?
