View Full Version : Colorful crinoline?

I thought this looked neat... for those of you who are wearing a slip or crinoline underneath your gown, you could dye or buy a colorful slip/crinoline... during the ceremony nobody would see, but later when you're dancing, taking photos, or doing the garter thing, people would see and it would be a neat touch of color...

Plus, it could give you a touch of "ooh, I know I have a bright red crinoline but nobody else knows" kind of feeling... you know, like when you're wearing sexy undies under your drab jeans?

There's also directions on this site, if you keep scrolling down you will see pictures of the slip in the washing machine... if you wanted to do it yourself.

Ooh I like that idea - it would surprise people come garter time too I bet. Thanks for the tip!

I so wanted to do this, but ended up not doing it. My main wedding colors were yellow and green, but my dress had gold beading. So doing a yellow crinoline might not have looked good. I could have done gold but I figured it would probably just look like tan-colored underwear. So that didn't work out.

I think it's a neat idea... I'd never seen it before but I stumbled upon it while looking for tips on sewing satin (trying to finally make my sash!). I'd love to do it, but I dont' think I'm wearing a slip at all.

I love that idea! How would you safely dye it though? :bbquestion:

You don't have to! You can buy an already-colored crinoline from dance stores (look under square-dance or sometimes ballroom sections).

If you have a sewing machine you could probably easily make it yourself. If I need a slip for my dress I'll just buy the taffeta/netting and sew it up myself.

I did toy with the idea of making mine Red under my Black Dress. But i didn't have any Red Car Spray. :bbeek:

I love this wedding - multi-coloured, a christmas-ornament bouquet and a purple crinoline!

Ooh I saw this on Offbeat Bride (my favorite site!) and loved it too! Makes me think maybe I don't want a red dress, but instead want a lighter dress with red underneath and some funky shoes!

Aww this is way cute. I would totally do this, but my dress isn't the kind you wear crinoline with.

I love OBB too! :D Great site! That bride said she wanted a purple wedding dress but her parents vetoed it, so she died the crinoline instead.

There are dresses that are mostly pale with accents/patterns/sashes of red - some of those would look awesome with a deep red crinoline - especially when dancing :D

So very true ... oh no, dare I change my longtime plan?! Probably not, but it's a really neat idea.

Lol, red wedding dresses are still awesome!! They have had a long line of them on OBB that are really gorgeous!

Either way it's quite different and classy :)

shooooot i really really wanna do this now but i wasn't even planning on buying a crinoline...my skirt has almost 3 layers of crinoline already.

maybe i will just get some red mesh and have it sewn onto the already existing crinoline...

wheels are turning!

Important question! So I want to dye one red, bright red! If I get hot or sweaty underneath, which I'm sure will happen because my skirt is already very warm without the added crinoline, will the dye bleed onto my legs?? or worse yet, will it rub off on the inside of my white skirt??

I've been freaking out thinking about this!!!

If you dye it with RIT or some similar dye in the washer, then no way will it bleed, it is permanently dyed. No worries!

I'm not sure either, a true red is hard to get. I would check out their site for tips: http://www.ritdye.com/home.lasso

Red might go pink.

After two dyes my Black went Bronze so i sprayed it with car spray :bbeek:

Looks good to go now. :D

I would be careful about this even using RIT just because the crinoline fabric is generally not cotton. Acrylic fabrics such as tulle can be really hard to get to take dye, so I think Mitch might be right on by spraying it with a permanent paint. In my mind, that is just safer than anything you dye with a water based dye, permanent or not. The RIT site would be a great help and I think they even have a hotline you can call with questions.
