My three-year-old GPS pretty much died today, which sucks, because I have no sense of direction. I ended up lost for an hour trying to get home from the local pharmacy. :sob:

But anyways!

For those of you with newish GPS:

What brand do you have?

What do you like and dislike about it?

Thank you in advance!

I HIGHLY recommend the TomTom Go 930. We just bought this one a few weeks ago and we love love love it!
http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=475&Category=0&Lid=4

It has a TON of voices you can choose from (celebrities, darth vadar, austin powers...) and you can also record the commands in your own voice, which we've had fun with.

We also have a MIO, but compared to the TomTom.. it sucks!! One example...

I live about 2.5 hours from my family, and for the last 2 years I've used the route that our Mio gave us. I used the TomTom last time I drove home, just to see which way it would take me, and it got me there 25 minutes faster! Mapquest and Googlemaps don't even find the route that the TomTom did.

It also acquires satellites within 5 seconds, updates within 2-3 seconds when you miss a turn, connects to your cell phone (if it has blue tooth), and will work as a hands free system...where you hear the person that you're talking to through your speakers. You can also use it as an MP3 player if you wish, and it will play through your speakers in your car.

Can you tell that I'm in love with my GPS? :grinhappy:

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 and I love it. My dad has the 550 (I think), and they are basically the same except his has a bigger screen. I don't really have any complaints about it. It does its job well, and has some added features like bluetooth, a picture gallery, and an mp3 player.

I have a Garmin as well when we are in Jacobs car.

I saw that their is a new one out that has voice activation. Its pretty cool from the commercial. I would so get that one if my car didnt come with a stock navigation.

Also I have use eclipse navigation unit as well but its a whole radio and you have to replace it in your car lol not to mention they are expensive.

My dad has a Garmin and likes that a lot. FH and I have a Tom Tom and we like that a lot. I guess it comes down to price, but I would recommend either of those brands.

Thanks for the advice! I had a Magellan, and while it was okay, it often gave murky directions and lost the satellites.

I gave FH TomTom One for our 5-year anniversary and it's amazing! We've used for trips out of the area, most recently, a trip home to DC for my brother's wedding. We didn't even bother Mapquesting as we usually do! We even used it to navigate downtown Washington, DC for sightseeing. There are lots of one-way streets in DC, but TomTom performed well!

We used it to look up local restaurants and other points of interest and the phone numbers were included. You can't beat that!

TomTom is excellent and a smart gadget! It's around $150 and does much more than we ever expected.

My sister has the Garmin 350 and I love it. Have used it a couple times and I really like it. You can use it as a mp3 player and you can also insert your media card to view photos on it. If I get one I wouldn't mind one with blue tooth.

Personally I would recommend Garmin, I used my Garmin during deployment tough little piece of equipment and very accurate. Though the Tom Tom does sound interesting....hmmm:bbcool:

We have a Garmin Nuvi though I'm not sure which series it is. My dad said that when he was shopping for mine that he was trying to decide between this one and the Tom Tom and chose this one because the salesmen were talking about how they thought the Tom Tom had too much going on. He wanted something streamlined for me because, let's be honest, I get sidetracked easily. I love it and I don't know what I'd do without it. Sometimes I'd like to be able to do all the nifty extras of the Tom Tom, but this one is probably much better for me! :grinhappy:

I have the Garmin 260W and bought the same one for FH for his birthday last month. My parents have it too and they recommended it to us- and we love them.

My brother has a Tom Tom and has had less success with his- it told him to 'take a left' onto someone's lawn a few times!
