Ok, I figured mingling here with alot of women, I would certainly get some good tips. I'm not what you would call CHEF quality. Haha. I cook my basic meals...Tacos, Spanish Rice, Hot Dogs, Burgers, Spaghetti, Pizza.....Hamburger Helper, and lots of boxed foods.....I recently attempeted to make Meatloaf, and it tasted pretty darn good. Desserts are always easy for me as welll.
Im hoping some of you women on here may have some GREAT recipes that I can try to make to please my FH, and eventually my son. I'm not the GOURMET eater, We are pretty picky eaters, hence the basic meals, but do any of you have suggestions that I can master and be the mother/housewife that I should be?!
And start with your recipes.....
:)
Thanks in advance.

FH is the cook in our relationship, so I can't help much, but I have a great cake recipe! It's called Heath Bar Cake. The numbers below are what I buy when shopping to make the cake:
-2 chocolate cake mixes (any kind will do, I like butter-recipe chocolate)
-2 cans of sweetened condensed milk
-1 bottle of caramel (like ice cream topping, not the kind that turns hard)
-1 big tub of whipped cream
-8 heath candy bars (you can also use Skor candy bars)
Now, I always end up having some of everything left over, so don't worry when you have left-over sweetened condensed milk, caramel, etc. It's really easy, too. Just make the cake like the box instructs you to. After making the cake, poke holes in it about the size of a pencil. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk and caramel all over the cake and into the holes. I've tried using various amounts and it always turns out perfect, but I normally just put a layer of each on the cake. Then, put the cake in the fridge until it is completely cool. Once the cake has cooled, spread the whipped cream over the cake and crunch up your heath bars all over the cake. I bring this cake to work for birthdays and everybody's loved it!

Ok, this one is easy and works for both chicken and turkey.
Take a chicken or turkey. Defrost it.
In a roasting pan, wipe it with oil, and then put a few carrots.
Put chicken on top, and stuff it with some cranberry sauce. (Ocean Spray's Whole Berry works great). Then baste the chicken with some oil. I use vegetable oil.
Stick it into an oven at around 350, and baste it every 15 or so minutes. Pull it out when it's done, carve it, and enjoy.
****... now I'm hungry and craving chicken.

Watch the Food Network. No joke! I never cook with recipes so I can't offer any, I just throw stuff together. And the only reason I feel confident in doing that is because I've watched countless hours of food network and have seen the same ingredients and techniques many times. I think it's important to learn methods because that helps you understand HOW to cook. I don't learn something from each show, but I just watch so much of it (mostly in the background) that the repetition of what people do sinks in.
Plus of course you can get their actual recipes from http://www.foodnetwork.com/ but I've actually never done that. Not that I'm some fabulous cook! I eat pretty simply too.
Also, allrecipes.com is where I get recipes when I DO need them.
Finally, I've had it recommended to me many times to get the book How to Cook Everything which I haven't done yet, but I'll pass on the recommendation anyway!

There are some recipes in the dinner thread too -

I don't do much over basic type stuff either, but we don't do box stuff since we are trying to stick with a fairly low sodium diet. We are sort of picky too, but DH is pickier than I am :p
I need to add some more variety to our dinners though; I feel like I eat the same things a lot. I am tired of spaghetti right now ;)
Sourdough toast, peanutbutter, fresh garlic slices, and bananas. make into a sandwich. enjoy.
 Wierd I know.. just thought I'd throw out my two cents before I leave for a week hehehee!

I don't have any recipes, myself. Our spaghetti recipe consists of store-bought noodles and Ragu sauce... and sometimes meatballs or ground hamburger.
I'd recommend if you have a crock pot, to get a recipe book for that. You can make just about anything in those, and it's very easy. I got one and a cook book for it for Christmas. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to use it 'cause we don't live on our own anymore (with his parents for now). But I looked at the recipes and they looked simple, yet quite tasty. And my mom always makes stuff in hers.

Ohhh...a crockpot. I dont have one, but I should put that on my registry. Even if it doesnt get bought as a gift, I would have a 10% off coupon, and I could pick one up myself.
Thanks!

Crockpots are awesome. Especially when you're busy working and want a hot meal right as you get home.
