So I had decided to wear my mother's veil as my something old. It's really long and got a juliet cap and I'm really excited about the whole thing. I'm not wearing my mother's wedding dress because, well, honestly, it's a size 12 and I need a size 26 and no amount of dieting and exersize could make me a size 12 in just a few months. But I'm really excited about wearing my mom's veil. But then someone told me I shouldn't wear my mom's veil if I'm not wearing her dress because it's important that the dress and the veil match. I was all excited about wearing her veil and since there is no way I'd fit in her dress... well, now I'm crying.
Edited to add: Okay, I have decided it's my wedding and I'll do whatever I want! I'll wear my mother's veil if I want to and I do want to so I will.

I've never heard that you can't wear your mother's veil if you don't wear her dress. Like you edited to add, it is your wedding, if you want to wear your mothers veil, your father's tux while bouncing on a pogo stick you can :)

You'll hear it time and time again around here -- it's your wedding, do what you want!!
That said, I wonder if people meant more along the lines of the COLORS (i.e. white versus ivory) or the details (if the dress has lace, and the veil has lace, are they similar patterns?) matching....

It is definitely your wedding. If wearing that veil makes you happy, then definitely do it!

At my First Wedding i wore my Mums Tiara / Headress.
She wore it in 1954.
Dads Sister wore it in 1960
Dads cousin wore it in 1962.
Her Daughter wore it in 1987
And i wore it in 1992.
And neither of us wore Mums Wedding Dress because she made Net Curtains out of it. :bbeek:
If i was having a more Formal Wedding this time i probably would have worn it again. So get that excitement back and wear it with pride.

Ditto to what everyone else said. As long as the veil doesn't *clash* with the dress I say go for it. :D
