View Full Version : Question for seamstresses - Will I need a new dress?

I recently put FH on a strict vegetarian diet for health reasons, and we both lost a lot of weight. I didn't mean to, because I was a healthy weight before, but I just can't keep the weight on. My measurements were 38-30-38, and now they're 37-29-35.5.

My dress is at the MOH's house, and she's on vacation until mid-July, so I wanted to ask your advice on whether or not the dress can be taken in. I don't want a last-minute scramble, because I'm a big planner...

The change in your measurements is not so drastic as to prevent alteration. Generally, a gown can be altered down two sizes, or up one, without throwing off the design. The beading on the gown will increase the cost of the alteration, but will not prevent it.
Do you have your fittings scheduled already?

Thank you so much for your response! I feel a lot better now!

I sure do have an appointment (two, actually)! My first fitting is in two weeks. :) They said that the only time-consuming alteration will be the bustle, since the organza overlay makes the three-button bustle a bad idea. Something about it ripping easily? I don't know. :purplex:

Yes, since the beading on the train is on the overlay, it will probably require more support (points) on the bustle to distribute the weight.
