Have any of you see these kiosks? They seem to have popped up in the last few weeks at several of our grocery stores, and a few other places. We finally decided to check one out today while we were at the store. Basically you can rent a movie for $1 a night. It spits it out of the kiosk and then you bring it back the next day, or whenever you are done and you can turn it back in to apparently any redbox kiosk anywhere. They just charge you for each night you use it, $1 a night.
I was surprised that they have new releases. We rented Fool's Gold because I have been wanting to see it. They only thing I don't like is that you have to swipe your credit/debit card, but I guess they have to be able to charge you per night some how. If you don't return it within 25 days they stop charging you $1 a day and you now own it, kinda like Blockbuster.
Anyways, what do you guys think about them if you have seen them or if this is the first you have heard of them? Have you used it?
btw, at the store they have these flyer things for a free movie so you can try it once, the promo code is DVDONME you just have to push the "Rent with promo code" button. They had a huge stack of the flyers sitting there, so I am guessing anyone can use the code. It just says you have to return it by 9:00PM the next day to not be charged for a second night.
Anyways I am kind excited (hince my blabbing) because I just got a new release movie for free and even without the code it would have been a dollar verses like $3 from Blockbuster, and it is closer :)

Yeah, I have used one a few times. It doesn't charge your card until you bring it back. It just tallies how many days you had it and charges accordingly. They seem to have a pretty good selection of new movies, and they're very easy to use. We rented a movie for my daughter last night at a kiosk that's not a Redbox but the exact same thing. Great idea!

They are at practically every McDonald's around here. We've rented from one once, but the one we went to didn't have the biggest selection (practically none of the movies there were advertising on the front were in it). We've got the Blockbuster Total Access thing now, so that's what we use when we want to rent something, but I do think they are a neat idea.

I hate them. We had them at Kroger, but they kept breaking down, and the people who worked on them didn't fix them.. Ended up getting it taken out! lol Plus now a days i'd like to see people be able to get a job. :D

I use the redbox movie rentals all the time. They are the best thing ever. I love it I go to the market, get dinner and a Movie and its all a short walk from home. Yay
I have seen a few of these, but never thought about using them. They would be convenient for days when we don't happen to have any Netflix movies in. :grinhappy: Thanks for the idea!

This is totally unrelated to movies, but Saturday I volunteered at a car wash at the nearby Krogers that we shop at. It was so close that I walked there pretty early in the morning. Then I later walked to a cooking class in a little creative arts center on our street. After I came home and changed I walked down several blocks to a club for a youth AIDS education & awareness concert fundraiser and walked back home at 2 in the morning. I was thrilled that I did so many things, but did not have to use my car all day long! :D
Okay, now back to the RedBox topic.... ;)

I'm all for helping to support jobs, but when money is tight it is hard for me to pay $3-4 for a movie for one night when I can pay $1 and not have to drive. live in a small town and the closest movie rental place is 18 miles each way. It makes the difference of me getting a movie or not get it. We never rent movies from movie stores, we usually order them from Dish on the pay-per-view thing because its only like $3.99 on there and with the price of gas costs less than driving to the store and renting it and driving back, then driving back to take it back.
So I'm personally not taking the money that I usually spend at a movie store and putting it elsewhere because I wasn't spending money there in the first place.
But I agree with most things I enjoy giving my money to real people working :) I appreciate that you support paying people! Convience and cost just wins out sometimes when it means either use the convience or don't use it at all you know?

Oh, i understand.. FH and i usually don't rent movies at all because of this. Hollywood Video when we do, though. I think i am just getting a big distrust in management and anything higher up, to be honest! If i can't see them working, who is to say that that job isn't getting sent overseas? Or for temps only working as long as temps can before getting booted so they don't have to pay anymore.. It makes me wary, because it is cheap. Sorry for being the downer here!

I have called Redbox a ton of times, and they are AWESOME people based in the midwest! I would rather pay a rather smaller company then get ripped off by big business...granted places like Hollywood are bankrupt, so who knows!
Netflix is cool, it started 5 minutes from where I used to live, but I like instant gratification!

I love REDBOX!!! It's completely different then Krogers. Redbox is the best of the bunch. McDonalds used to offer free rentals on their large cups, plus they e-mail you free codes often, and if you sign up with their website, they text you free rental codes every Monday and Wednesday!
I rarely pay for my rentals. I use redbox at least 2-3 times a week. I love them. They always have a good movie selection around here too.

RedBox is pretty neat. But are any of you college students? My college library has an amazing selection of movies, even the newest, that I can just check out for a week. For FREE. I just watched the Golden Compass and right now am waiting for Juno. So we're talking popular movies.
Or, even the local library has films and for free. Just another heads up to those who mentioned money being tight. I rarely pay for movies anymore.

I think redbox is great! I got 27 Dresses and Juno from one. If it's a more popular night, like Saturday, the options aren't there 'cause they're all rented out... but if it's a week night, I've always had good luck with it. I didn't know about their website though, I'll have to check it out.
I also agree about going to libraries. However, you are probably going to end up on the waiting list for a long time for popular titles, whether it's movies or books. My mom works at the library in my hometown, so I always got new stuff right away... it was rather excellent, haha. I never checked out the college libraries, but I might have to in the fall when school starts up again. Wow... I've only been out of college for a year and already it feels weird to be talking about being in school next year.

Ohhh can you share the super secret website?? ;)
And does anybody know what other places these are located other than McDonald's? I don't really like to give them my business. I know none of you are surprised by this. Hehe :grinhappy:

Its insideredbox.com but we got on there today and there was no code for today, just the one from monday.:snide:
Ah! Well, I will keep my eye on it. Thank you!
Interesting. There's one at a Walgreens a few minutes away from the apartment. If they are a 24 hour one I may go over there tonight and surprise Chad with a movie. He took his trig final today so tomorrow I'm cooking a big dinner for him and I'd love to have a movie waiting for him as well.

The other thing you can do is just go to redbox.com and enter your cell and they text the code to you!
You can also look on redbox.com and type in your zip code for places close to you.

I totally agree... Redbox ROCKS! We have a large number of kiosks in my area. The really cool thing is that you can rent from one kiosk and return it to ANY other Redbox kiosk you wish. I've actually rented a movie in Jasper, Texas on my way home from a trip and returned it in Austin. My daughter watched the movie on the road. How cool is that?!?
I don't think anyone has mentioned, but on the redbox website you can actually reserve a movie to be picked up later the same day. So, on a busy weekend night, you can be sure your movie is there waiting for you. I love redbox!
Have a great day,
Gina F.

We have them at Mickey D's around here.
The up side, they are cheap.
The down side, is sometimes someone will put a blank cd in the box and return it, so then that's what you get. And it's a pain to get a refund when that happens.
