This may be a stupid question, but I really don't know the answer. When should I buy my wedding dress? I'm getting married May 31st. I have already gone to David's Bridal and found a dress which I love. I'm just not certain when to order it.

If you're not expecting to have any major body changes (weight loss, etc....) it's really not too soon to go ahead an order it now. At the latest, I'd give yourself 6 months, since a dress can take 3-4 months to come in, then you want ample time for alterations, etc.... (not to mention, you don't want to be panicking at the last minute if you're cutting it close in terms of time).

If you know that's the dress you want, I'd go ahead and order it; it's a big thing you can cross off your "to do" list. :D

I would order it right away too, if it's the dress you want. I bought my dress off the rack 14 months before my wedding! :D

Which dress is it? Is it on the site? I'd love to see!

I'm not trying to scare you, but DB discontinues their dresses a lot. Two of the dresses I tried on and was considering a year ago are no longer available. So when I found THE DRESS at DB, I snapped it up immediately.

As someone above mentioned, I would also give yourself at least 6 months- 3-4 for the dress to arrive and a few months for alterations.

I got my dress 14 months before the wedding( went with a friend to get HER dress- she married in June) and found one I loved, and bought it).

My dress took 11 weeks to arrive to the store (they had to add length because I am tall) and my fittings begin August 2nd, for an Oct 4th wedding.

Hope this helps!

Ps- can we see the dress you want?

If you have seen one you adore then i suggest getting it as soon as possible.

I faffed about with a deal on eBay after falling in love with a Dress in Germany. It was on my "Watch List" for weeks and when i finally got round to ordering one they sold out!!!

It was by pure fluke that i found mine in a Charity Shop.

My wedding is also in May! I plan to order my dress within the next week or two. The shops here say to give give 6 months just to get the dress in and then a couple of extra for alterations. I've heard too many horror stories about brides getting their dresses at the very last minute and not being able to get it altered on time, or having to pay outragious prices to have a rush job done.

Also RosieAngel had a great point too. Designers are constantly discontinuing gowns, so if you've found The One, I wouldn't hesitate!

That's pretty!

I would talk to a rep at David's Bridal and see if they're having any sales coming up. When I went to Alfred Angelo, the guy helping me told me to wait a week or two and they'd be having a sale. These dress stores have sales quite often so if you're not in a big hurry, I'd say wait for a sale to save even more money!

I wanted to make sure the dress I was getting was going to fit me, so honestly I didnt even start looking until March, and then I ordered it. I asked at Davids Bridal and they said that some dresses can take as long as 12 weeks to order...not as long as many people have told me.

If you are sticking with DB then I might say wait it out, see if there are any good sales. But if you have the money now, you may as well order.

It's all about when YOU want to do it, but I wouldnt see it necessary to do it before Thanksgiving. :)

I'm not trying to scare you, but DB discontinues their dresses a lot.

That's true. My daughter bought her dress off the rack at Davids Bridal in November (the sales lady said it was a new style and she hadn't seen it on anyone yet). When I tried pull it up on the DB website to show a friend (by clicking on the link in my "favorites" so I KNOW I didn't get the wrong style #), I got a message that it couldn't be found and may have been discontinued. I can't imagine a more perfect dress for my daughter so if you find THE dress, order it now (and then stop looking:grinhappy:...)
