Well I've been on OneWed for awhile so I figured I would start my journal, I'm not to sure where to start or what to say so here goes:
How we Met:
My close friend just had her baby in January of 2008 and her brother was in the Army Reserves and was serving over in Iraq with the Army. Around March 30 he came home and my friend Bridget was having her son dedicated at church so they had a gathering after church for her son Landon and her brother Paul for a homecoming party. Anyways after church we went into the hall for the first time I finally met Bridget's brother Paul. So after that day we hung out with him and his family a little before he went back to Iraq. But before he went back we did say we should email each other. So we started emailing each other for about 8 months and it was real innocent a friendship started. So I did make the first move I asked him in an email if when he got back from Iraq if he would like to go out sometime just the two of us and he did say sure. So he came back from Iraq and was home for awhile and I didnt hear anything from him so of course I assumed nothing would become us. But after a month or so one night I received an email asking if I would like to go to a hockey game so of course I said yes....at first I wasnt sure if it was all of us or the 2 of us but it turned out just the two of us. Anyways we had a great first date October 27, 2007 and its been fabulous ever since. I felt I met my prince finally.
Engagement:
Well I've been impatient ever since we first talked about getting married. Now I'm sure everyone might not agree you should be dating much longer before you get married but I just feel he's the one and he feels the same.
So he got tickets to go see Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals play in Boston on June 21, 2008. So of course he was teasing that's my Birthday present...So we went to Boston for the weekend from Friday June 20th till Sunday June 22nd. We had an awesome weekend, we went to the pier, we rode the train, we went to the game, had awesome pizza and then Sunday morning rode the train back into Government Center and went to the Aquarium and had a blast there, my children loved it as well as Paul and I. So we were leaving the Aquarium and Paul said oh lets go to the Pier and Marissa said oh please mom I want to get a picture. So off we go and Marissa found in the middle of the pier a circle made out of bricks so she says: Here Mom stand here and Paul says here Jacob take this bottle and I turned to help Jacob Paul's on the ground on his knee I turn around and he's asking me and slipping the ring on my finger. I was so happy I couldnt even speak I was so stunned bc he's been torturing me about proposing and I honestly had no idea he was going to do that there.
So now its official!!!!!!
As soon as I can I will post pics of my ring and I did get my wedding dress its on order will be in 6-8 weeks.
We have alot of ideas already for the wedding. We want a fall/country wedding. I want to have Sunflowers/pumpkins/fall leaves/bales of hay/ for the reception hall. We're going to have our reception at a fire hall up in the country so we want to use the hay bales to make a walk way up to the door of the hall. Of course we have plenty of time. I will post ideas and projects as I get them done.

Also we are going to book the reception hall sometime this week or next....We have a meeting sometime in the later part of August with the Photographer and I have a call into the DJ and we already bought our Invitations that just need to be printed at home. I also bought my organza bags for the trail mix for my wedding favors.

Well Ladies I was thinking we picked out black/white dresses with a wine/cabornet (spelling?) ribbon but now I'm wondering will these go with my fall/country theme and I already bought brown and gold bags for the wedding favors so not sure if this will all fit together....if you guys have any ideas let me know or do I have to change my theme bc of the bridesmaid dresses?
Heck no, don't change your theme cuz of the dresses. The Wine will go VERY WELL with your country theme, ESPECIALLY if you work in maybe some wine colored flowers with your sunflowers or whatever flowers you end up having - OR, if you do wrapped bouquets, you can use ribbon the same color as the BM dresses for your wrap on the bouquets. You can use sashes on the chairs to accent the dresses. Wine IS a fall color... you just gotta finesse in a few more shades of fall colors to accent it that's all.

Aww ty Justina, I was panicking....I thought I did a bad thing but once the girls tried on the dresses and put the wine ribbon on I thought thats the dress....so if you have any other ideas which I hope you do let me know....I still want to use the Sunflowers but I like the idea adding the wine color in the flowers...do you think the brown and gold bags will be weird at the table settings then now?
No, the brown and gold won't be wierd. You're working with a country/fall theme. As long as you don't work in some bright blue or green, you should be just fine. Try to keep the colors kinda like a maple leaf in the fall, you know how it fades from a wine color, to yellow? Kinda that effect. Make sense??
Kinda like this:

I think you will the only person to notice. When I was looking at dresses for my bridesmaids I was all concerned that they were more blue blue then my blue green centerpieces. Until my sister was like "Danielle the girls are not going to be wearing the centerpieces, relax you are going to be the only person to notice." :D

That is going to look awesome! It will totally go with your fall theme :D
I used to think that all the blue in my wedding had to be the exact same. I finally just gave up and got "similar" blues to go in my decor. I'll have to show you how it turns out... but I have yet to see a wedding where everything is ONE color ;)

:DThings will get done! Somtimes you hit a dry spell where you feel like nothing is happening and then all of a sudden you get to cross a bunch of stuff off at once.
As for the trail mix, I would put in it what you like :D it is your wedding after all!!! I like raisins in my trail mix, but everyone puts different stuff in theirs. some put dried fruit, some cereal, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips.... Any kind of fall candy would be good, you can stock up this year for next year on most of the candy!

The nice thing about trail mix is that they can pick out the stuff that they do not like. It isn't like cookies with nuts in them (some people like them and some peopel don't -- you can't really pick them out).
I have had those boohoo days too! Look at your list and see if there is anything small that you can get started on. I did A LOT of camparing prices when i first started planning. (I have lots of spreadsheets with prices, and pros and con lists!) Just remember you are going to be a MRS!!! When I think about that it always makes me smile!:D

Well I havent been on here in awhile. Lots been going on. We just moved into a house. Right now we are just renting but probably going to try to buy. The kids started new schools. We are adjusting to living in the country. I just realized my wedding is like just about a year away. Wow. It seems it was just 18 months away. So now we'll have to start putting deposits on the hall and photographer and the caterer.
Hey MaryAnn! I haven't been on much either unfortunately. We're lookin for a house too! Good luck with buying a home. Now is the time to do it if you're going to do it!

Well thank you ladies for all your nice comments. I cant believe now its just about 11 months away. I feel I have nothing done. My fiance is probably going to be going to Iraq with his job. So soons he gets his definite orders he will probably be going in January and wont be back until July. But there could be a chance that he could go later to Iraq than January and if that's the case we might move up the wedding. That's why I cant put deposits down just yet. So right now I feel overwhelmed. I know we have some things done like I have my dress and my bridemaids dresses. I have the hall already notified of date but I didnt put the deposit down yet because of not knowing when he's leaving. Also, my pictures too. So that's where we are right now.

Thanks Danielle. Actually as of today he's probably going to Iraq in January. So that means he would be back in July. So as for now the wedding is still September 26, 2009 but well we are going to try to buy the house we're renting so we might have our own house before the wedding and now we decided we might take a few days to go to the Cat skills(?) in New York just the two of us and then we are going to plan a family trip to Disney World. So we're so excited about all the stuff will be doing especially going back to Disney World but it will be our family (Paul and I and the kids) and his parents and lil sis and his other sister with her husband and son. I'm just wondering now if we told them that this was our honeymoon to you get any freebe's?

Hey you can always try right. Jon and I tried to get upgraded on one of our flights on our honeymoon, but the attendant said no. Then we asked if we could purchase an upgrade and she said our tickets were not upgradable. Meh we tried. I think the women we picked to ask was in a really pissy mood that day.

That's BS. What airline were you flying? We had the opportunity to upgrade to first class for EVERY single flight on our honeymoon (except the last leg from SF to Sacramento).

Well ladies, I hope all is well with everyone. A lot has been going on in our lives but hopefully it's all going to come together now. We just found out Paul is definitely going to Iraq for six months and we wont have to change our wedding date. His employer is sending him for training the first week of February and sometime in February or the end of February he will go to Iraq. Luckily the man that's in charge is working with us so that he can be back for our wedding, September 26, 2009. Oh and his Dad is leaving this friday for Iraq with the same employer for 6 months as well. So we will be busy planning a wedding and everyday life wrapped all in one. At least soon I can put deposits down. Please keep us in your prayers that we can plan a wedding and get everything done in 7 or 8 months depending when he leaves. So that's where we are right now. I finally feel like is becoming real....
Hi Mary Ann! Thanks for the update. That's great that they've promised him that he can come back for the wedding! That's gotta be tough on you though :( Hang in there! You got a lot of work ahead of you, but you can definitely plan your wedding and get everything done in 8 months :) If you haven't already, start thinking DRESSES. Those take the longest out of everything!

Well fortunately I have my wedding dress and the brides maid dresses so that's a plus....He's going to wear his army dress uniform and the grooms men are going to wear black slacks and wine color shirt/ black tie to match the girls. I just really need to put deposits down on the hall and such......

You have the hall picked out? (I haven't been keeping up with journals because I can't view pics from work :urgh: so I'm not sure if I missed that part).

Yes I have the hall picked out, it's the Lions Club Hall its houses about 150 people originally I was going to go with the Township Fire Hall but that only holds 100 people. The decor on the Lions Club Hall is ok but I guess it will do. I dont need anything fancy. We can decorate it so hopefully it will turn out nice.
That's good that you know what you want. You're on the right track. You should have no problems getting everything done by September!

Well ladies I think we might possibly have a photographer.....today my son had Basketball pics taken so I thought well I would call the photographer to ask if he does wedding pictures and he was like yes I do....So he seems he would be in our price range so I'm excited about speaking with him and seeing his work. As soon as we know Paul's definite date of when he's leaving for Iraq and his date he would come back from Iraq, I have to call him. Also, the photographer gave me a name of a couple who have a Music Production and are DJ's so he said to give them a call. Well we also decided to change our wedding favorites but I think it's going to be a good thing. Last year I bought gold and brown organza bags to hold trail mix but now I'm going to order Leave Cookie Cutters and put them in the bags. The trail mix we're still going to use and put them on the tables as a snack. So I'm excited.:)

Well I ordered the fall leaf cookie cutters they were shipped today....Actually, I was able to get in touch with my first choice for my wedding photographer so we just have to meet up and pay the deposit....I have to send the deposit for the hall.....Paul and I decided to have my older brother and wife in our wedding as well as my daugther and son and his two sisters and brother-in-law and his father. Also, we decided to include the mothers they could do the candle lighting and I would like to give them each a flower, which I think is traditional? So thinks seem to be falling into place now. I found someone to cater our wedding and possibly someone to do the cupcake cake......:)
Mary Ann, you're right, having the mothers in the ceremony is traditional. That's awsome that you're getting your plans in order!!

I need to vent now, because we found out today Paul is leaving March 22 and still dont know when he's coming back so now Paul is saying we should move the wedding. So I'm not so happy right now with his job. I couldnt put any deposits down because of waiting for them to decide when he would leave now we know and it stinks. Now because of them I have to move my wedding date, I guess I'm being selfish but I dont know. Then I finally get in touch with my photographer who I was going to book but she sends me her new price list for this year, I almost fell off the chair because her prices almost doubled and we would be getting less pictures as well.....What a bad day today plus the weather didnt help.............:(
Awww hang in there! So does this mean you have to push your wedding date earlier or later??

Thanks so much ladies for thinking of me....We did decide to push back the wedding only by one week so our new wedding date is October 3, 2009. I'll be honest at first I wasnt happy but the more I thought about it, it's the right thing to do. I definitely need to have the groom here in the states to get married....:) so things are sitting better now with me....Although my fiance's sister's wedding anniversary is October 4th so he said then he shouldnt forget our anniversary then....so I was able to check with both the pastors and they are both open that day so that's good. So I'm sure things will come together smoothly....now I just have to figure out about my wedding photos...at first I was going to go with a photographer that I thought was reasonable until she sent me her price list for 2009 and she pretty much doubled the price of the packages and you get less pictures...so I'm not sure now...but someone I work with loves to take pictures and she took many pictures at 2 of her relatives weddings so I'm wondering just maybe go with her....I know photos are important and you get what you pay for but I'm having a hard time swallowing the prices of the pictures the professionals are asking for their pictures....If I could take my own pictures I would.....

Well Ladies I figured I better update you all, we finally decided on my first choice for the photographer....she's actually giving us a deal but still we're paying more than I thought I would but I guess you get what you pay for right....so we just put the deposit down yesterday on the photographer....today I sent out the deposit for the Hall....Wow now it feels real.....We also found out when Paul is coming home it's Sept 15, 2009 but were not sure if he's leaving Iraq that date or in the States that date.....so we are staying with the October 3 Wedding Date....so it's all good....I'm much better the more I think about it I just want to marry my soul mate and I shouldnt make much of the date thing....as long as he comes home safe and his dad comes home safe why should I complain.....

Well life has been busy for us with Paul leaving soon for Iraq but I think I finally figured out my centerpieces...Well I want to use fresh sunflowers so we're going to grow them again this year and try to use them if they are in good condition to be used if not plan B is I'm going to ask the florist for about 15 extra sunflowers and then we'll build our sunflower centerpieces from them...my friend is so crafty and she is just a blessing to me to have as a friend. First we're going to get like a see through material, using one of the coordinating colors, either gold or brown or the wine color we will cut that in a square shape for our base then take about 4 sunflower leaves and put them down like in a circle shape and then take the sunflower head and place it on that...then she wants to get from Germany when she goes back home to visit it's like rafia to put that around the sunflower and then possibly sprinkle some kind of pearl thing or such just to make it stand out a little...but other than that I think it's an awesome, unique way to display my favorite flower.....:) so that was the highlight of my day.....
Your centerpieces sound beautiful! I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Thanks Justina....My friend and I went to JoAnn Fabrics tonight while here husband took my son and her son toy browsing.....So we were there just to look to see what kind of fabric was out there...and low and behold we went into the home fabrics and we found this one fabric....that was it...she calculated how much we needed and then we took it up to the counter to be measured and found there was enough and even little extra....yippee....also what made the deal was that the fabric was 4.99 a yard but it was the last night for 40% off so I purchased 8 3/8 yards of fabric for 28.00 and change with the tax....how exciting that was.....it's such a beautiful fall orange color...it looks awesome with my brown and gold favor bags which I brought to match colors....:)
How exciting! Isn't it GREAT getting good deals? It's refreshing :)

Well the past 2 days have been terrible...We got news yesterday that Paul' s trip to Iraq is pushed back now to April 26, 2009 so that means we have to move the wedding again. Well we have come up with a solution and hoping and praying that the hall and the photographer will work with us since I put the deposit down on both. Well things werent good today but his mother made sense of everything for us...We decided that possibly November 14th or 21st we will have our official church wedding. But since Paul's dad is over in Iraq now I wanted to wait until both of them were home to get married but my father in law to be wants us to get married before Paul leaves for Iraq...that is his wishes so now I'm not sure how that works if we have our Pastor marry us before he leaves how does that work in November? If anyone can shed some light on this please do so because my head is spinning....I'm so stressed...

Your pastor will be able to tell you how the november ceremony can be held. I know in my church it would be a "reaffirmation" ceremony, but im catholic.
Congrats on having your honey be your DH sooner. Dont worry. push on and marry your sweetheart and then you can have your big celebration in november!!
im sorry you had to push it again, but at least you have fh home for a little while longer.

Thanks so much Vana....you're right he is here longer now....I appreciate your words.
Mary Ann, what if you and FH did a justice of the peace, or tie the knot with your preferred officiant if it means a lot to you, just to get married (to satisfy FFIL), and then have the big wedding when they both get back? That will give you a chance to have the wedding of your dreams, and you'll have more time to plan.
Just a thought. I hope you still get to have your wedding the way you want it - I of all people know how that is important!

My dear friend is from Germany and she is making the centerpieces...to me they sound and look very European as she keeps telling me...lol...what is I bought this beautiful rust/copper color fabric. first you put that down and then she's going to put some green leaves from the sunflower or some kind of green leaves then the sunflower head and then she's putting this stuff she gets in Germany its like raffia here and then she's spreading lady bugs around it....I will definitely take pictures....my 2 favorite things are there the sunflowers and the ladybugs....I like the centerpieces bc people wont have to stretch to see each other. I think its going to look awesome once they are assembled and on the tables.

Well I think we're going to go with a wedding cake instead of the cupcakes, only reason is my sister-in-law is making it and she lives 2 hours away from us and I think its going to be easier for her. She made our wedding cake in April and it came out beautiful so she just has to make it bigger to feed 120 people but I think its going to work...she's going to do it a little different in appearance but I think its going to turn out nice...so excited...plus for the cupcake holders that was an issue how would we hold 120 cupcakes....
That's great that you've got the cake figured out! Any idea what it's going to look like?
BUT - if you still liked the cupcake idea.... A couple of these would keep them safe :)

these looke nice...not sure how much they are..my sister in law looked at acmoore and they were 42 for $38.00 so I would need 4 of them so that is too much to spend right now.
I totally understand - it was a thought :)

Oh Justina, it was a great thought we were even thinking how we could make the cupcake stand but in the end the cake is going to be easier for her to make....like I said she made our first cake and it was scrumptious......so this time she's going to make it a little different...and bigger to feed 120 people...
I'm glad that you have it figured out - I hope that it turns out perfect and travels well. I can't wait to see the finished product. I loooove making/decorating cakes, but I wouldn't trust myself with *another* wedding cake until I master getting white :)

Well I definitely cant wait to see my cake now...I'm glad we decided to go with the cake instead of cupcakes it will just be alot easier for my sister in law...its exciting because she found this awesome pic of a country looking cake with sunflowers that is awesome....and Paul likes it too so exciting....well bad news I tried to print my own invitations tonight with a friend and they came out terrible so I decided I'm just going to have them printed....sometimes it pays to pay a little more for things...plus I'm so excited I tried on my wedding dress and it still fits....its even a little big....so excited bc I bought it over a year ago...my friend said I looked beautiful...so excited...it's all coming so fast and I feel like a bridezilla...especially Paul's sister is aggravating me...she bragged about doing different things for the wedding and now when I need her she has no time...so today we had an argument....which turned into an argument with Paul bc I was venting to him and now we were arguing....ugh...sorry for the venting but I felt today was an awful day but it was bitter sweet at the end....
