We are planning on using a wedding planner, but we're not sure where to look. We live in Raliegh, but are considering a wedding in either SC or VA. Would it be better to get a wedding planner local to us so we can meet with them more? And if we do, would they travel 6 hours when needed? Or should we look for a wedding planner at our destination? Where they will have a more intimate knowledge of the local vendors but we won't be able to meet in person that frequently? Any thoughts or comments?

Get someone who is located where the wedding will be. You'll want someone who is familiar with the area, vendors, etc. although it's not face-to-face, with e-mail, telephone, text messaging, you'll be able to regularly keep in touch.
Regardless where they're located, check with association affiliations (such as the Association of Bridal Consultants and Weddings Beautiful) and get references, as you may not have the luxury of holding interviews in person.
