Did anyone see the Rachel Ray Splurge vs. Steal wedding segment they just had on the Rachel Ray show? I'm looking around on her website so I can put the findings up here. It was actully pretty interesting.

Here's the link http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/splurge-vs-save-weddings/

I missed it but my mom told me about the fake cake. I don't know, personally, after the rental, shipping and the cost of the sheet cakes, in my area, for another $100 or so, you can eat the wedding cake. I'm sure in more populated/expensive areas it would be great, or if you are having a ton of people.

First, the cost of the actual cake isn't really where your expense is, it is in the labor costs that it takes to decorate it. You might as well have the cake and eat it too. Styrofoam forms are probably as expensive or more expensive than the actual cake ingredients.

Second, another consideration with having sheet cakes that come from the grocery store as opposed to the same bakery as your cake comes from is that they might not be as good as the real cake. Just a thought.

I saw that Rachel Ray show yesterday. The cake thing didn't surprise me. I was surprised by the flower girl dress. $20 are Target (I think she said)! They had a point, the little girl is going to grow out of it in a few months, no point in buying a $250 dress. It is only going to get worn once and she will probably spill chocolate all over it, lol. I wish that segment was longer, it was very helpful.
