Has anyone made bouquets with Gerber Daisies. I want only Gerber Daisies in the bouquets and I dont want them really small. I want them to be decent sized but I like the look of one flower since the heads are heavy are they going to droop? Should I use the plastic holders on them??

http://www.wedding-flowers-and-reception-ideas.com/pink-gerbera-daisy-wedding.htmlHi!
I'm a wedding florist and have used Gerbera daisies many times - both as a hand-tied clutch or in an Oasis foam holder.
You can see the both at www.wedding-flowers-and-reception-ideas.com/pink-gerbera-daisy-wedding.html
Now you can use Gerbera sleeves (they look like large clear straws) - but they are meant for sliding right up to the base of the head of the flower and can look rather stiff and awkward in a hand bouquet.
I tend to wire the Gerberas. Using 22 gauge wire, which is bendable, but stiff enough to give support to the stem, gently lay the wire next to the stem and push up until the wire pierces the the of the Gerbera. (Some push all the way thru and create a hook and pull back down thru the center of the flower head).
Tape the wire with green corsage tape. Stop short with taping so the natural stems can still be kept in a vase of water until needed (these are very thirsty flowers).
Best wishes on your wedding day!
Louann

I used all gerbers and I left mine in the tubes and just wrapped the ribbon all the way up and down it! Mine look a little funny because my girls handed me some to add as I walked down the aisle!!! You can still see the tubes on the ones we added!
LOVE LOVE LOVE them! :flower:

I'm not sure where you would order gerber daisies that are large.
Good Luck!

This is what my bouquet is going to look like! I can't wait to see it!
I got my Gerberas from Sam's Club in bulk - great price and they were a great quality and size. Someone else you may want to consult on this is Kfancii.. she's our resident florist :)

Thanks Justina! Lovinglife- Gerbs are a pretty easy flower to work with in a hand tied bouquet even for a novice designer. The best thing you can do for the flowers is to keep them hydrated until the very last minute. Gerbs will drink water up the entire stem, so when you receive your shipment of flowers, the first thing you will want to do is to give them a fresh angled cut and place them into a vase/bucket filled with warm water and a floral preservative. If you order your flowers in bulk, and receive them in a "dry pack" (boxed with ice and no water), it will be essential that you process them as above, and allow them to drink overnight. Store the flowers in a cool place.
If I were making the bouqets, I would choose not to leave the straw on them because they can easily fall off, and that isn't something you want to happen as you walk down the aisle. You could choose to wire them as Louann suggests in her post, but I'm not a fan of wired flowers. If your flowers are fresh and well cared for, you don't need the wires. My best advice would be to construct your bouquets and tie them with waxed string then place them back into the vase. When you are about to walk down the aisle, take them out of the water, dry them off and add your ribbon. This will keep them in great condition for the wedding. At the reception, have pretty vases on your head table and use your bouquets as centerpieces. (I love getting double the bang for my buck!)
