Okay, ladies...it's crunch time. My daughter's wedding is August 8th and I am beginning to stress about MY dress. I have one "back-up" dress which I like (believe it or not, it's a 1960s era dress that belonged to my mom...I had it altered to fit me years ago but never wore it) but I keep looking for something else. The problem is most of the current styles are either too matronly or too young. The Mother of the Bride dresses I have seen at bridal stores are kind of frumpy. So, I figured I'd ask you all what YOUR mom is wearing. (I'm hoping for inspiration:D) I'll try to post a picture of my "vintage" dress this weekend.

I say as much as you sound like you like your "vintage dress" I would wear it, unless you suddenly find something to good to pass up:)

I dont know exactly what my mom is wearing to my wedding. She has a blue dress suit; its a skirt with a little top that buttons and has eyelet designs on the top & skirt. she may get something new jsut b/c she has worn that particular outfit to my older sisters wedding seven years ago & thats her usual outfit for Easter at Church:) but I figure if its a good suit, still fits and is in good condition, why not wear it?

I have to say wear something your daughter likes, I told my mom NO pink, she busts out with this awful, ugly, "dusty rose" colored dress and I hated it!!!

My mom wore this:

That's her style and what she's comfortable in, so I told her to go for it!

This is what my mom wore. She was so stressed out about finding something it was stressing me out! And of course she waited til the last minuet...she found this two days before.

My mom did go "matronly" but then again, so did I! LOL The dress went down to about her ankles.

My wedding is August 8th too, and I dont think my mother has even considered looking for a dress yet.

MY FMIL got her dress online though, she's heavier set so it was a plus size store, but they had a large selection. It was long, with thick straps at the top. Green in color, as I told her no pink. It also had a wrap around type jacket to put around it.

Looks great.

My grandma surprised my mommy and bought her a dress for my wedding.. I'll have to get a pick. I thought it was SO nice of her, specially since its her EX mother in law. My grandma rocks. Haha, She didn't want my mom to feel bad cuz Steve's side has money and we uhh.. Don't. XD

Here is the dress my mom wants to wear, but she said it might not get there in time, so she has one that is different...

I have no idea what my mom is wearing. Either way she has free reign on this issue. I have never been one to tell people waht to wear and she always looks great no matter what she wears.

I say wear whatever will make you feel your best!

My wedding is going to be a little bit hippie :flower: - so my mom isn't going really formal. She is wearing a cream/white linen top kind of like this one:

And a long linen skirt like this:

My mom is going to wear a pant suit of some sort because she has a leg brace and would feel more comfortable not having the leg brace on display....No idea what the pant suit will look like yet - still 14 months away!

Aw... how fun to see all your moms:D Here is a picture of me in my circa-1965 dress. HONEST opinions please...does it look like I have traveled to 2008 in an Austin Powers time machine or does it look okay?

Wow, I think that dress is perfect! It looks great on you, and styles from the 60s are a VERY big trend right now. I doubt people would even realize it wasn't bought for the wedding. IMO, you've got your dress!

That Dress looks Fab!! Infact when it was made it was ahead of it's time and still looks great.

My Mum wont be at my Wedding. She's got Dementia and is very frail.
She doesn't even know who i am let alone realise i'm getting Married. :bbcry:

Mob, I think that dress looks awesome! It's very pretty... not matronly, and is very classic. It's the kind of dress that when you look at the wedding pictures years from now, you won't regret what you wore. :)

I agree - I think you have your dress! It looks great and the colour is neutral and will go with whatever your daughter has chosen for colours! I would never have guessed that dress was from the 60's.

Thanks ladies. That cements it...one more thing I can quit stressing about . I appreciate all your input. (My daughter likes it too but she is so darn sweet I could have walked out in a t-shirt and jeans and she would have said "That's okay, too"...:D My husband likes it but wants me too buy something new because I am notoriously frugal...now I can tell him it's NOT about saving money, it's about style and the ladies of OW have spoken...haha!) Thanks again for your help.

Oh yes. No question about it, I would have bought it too! Tell your husband that you will spend a wad on the shoes and the purse to go with it. BTW - I think you should go whole hog and look for a vintage style clutch purse & maybe some simple pumps too.

BTW - what size are you? LOL Want to sell it afterwards?

::Hug:: i know how you feel, thats why one of my grandma's can't go to my wedding. :sob: The loud noises would piss her off, she'd be confused, and the Alzheimer would have her wandering like a child (thats where shes reverted..). If you need anyone to talk to, i'm here.

It looks perfect to me!!! I wish my mother could find something like that. She hasnt started looking yet. In pictures, you will look great and matronly.

Im sure everyone else will love it too. It's a nice money saver to have something so perfect already in your own closet.

Not EXACTLY the look I was going for...the "great" part, yes, the "matronly" part, not so much...I was shooting more for a "wow, she looks way too young and stylish to be having a daughter getting married" look (okay, at 54 I know that's a huge stretch but we all have our dreams...) Thanks for the kind words.

I absolutely LOVE it. I have no idea what my mom is going to wear yet. We are going to go shopping sometime soon. She has some things in the closet but she has recently lost some weight and I know that it would not fit anymore. I hope we can find her something that looks that great.
